A wonderful place to celebrate Mass
- - - - - - - -
Our daughter and I visited San Jose, CA, and the Bay area one mid-October weekend. We had a good time.
Sunday morning, we celebrated Mass at the Santa Clara Mission Church, on the campus of Santa Clara University.
The priest's homily pointed us to how Scripture calls us to ...
Perseverance...
... applies to students at mid-terms...
... applies to us all,
including...
Moses needed help to eep his arms raised over the battle with Amalek
St. Paul calling us to pray unceasingly
Jesus and the parable of the unjust judge rendering for the persistent widow
1. Strength together
2. Scriptures
3. Pray without ceasing
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus,
who will judge the living and the dead,
and by his appearing and his kingly power:
proclaim the word;
be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient;
convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.St. Paul, 2 Tm 3:14-4:2
Thank you, Father, for letting us celebrate Mass with you and the rest of the congregation.

This is a very beautiful Mission Church within Santa Clara University. The church is well worth visiting with the beautiful altar, paintings and ceiling. The outside architecture with the cross in front is also quite beautiful. Parking at SCU is free on Saturday and Sunday, or I believe you can park for 2 hours free on other days.

Definitely, a must-visit if you're in the area! The stunning building is not the only reason why you should visit this attraction. You will find a gorgeous rose garden just by the side. It's a great place to come and be with your thoughts for a little bit.

This was the last of 15/21 Missions we visited over three weeks in California recently. It is a very good example but only the church no mission buildings.
I would probably have it a 5 if it hadnt been so difficult to find somewhere to park, we nearly gave up. I knew we had to get a pass at the gate for 2 hours free parking, but finding that gate was not easy and in fact we never did. We stopped and asked outside of the campus - no idea and then we pulled into one of the car parks inside and asked a student - no idea and all the carparks need a permit. We eventually parked on the street, Alviso & Market I think, near the fire department and walked in. There was a map of the campus inside and luckily we werent far from the mission.
It is open till 8pm - just a well by the time we got there.
It is a large church and highly decorated with gold, large paintings, painted ceiling and border work.
The church is open and free but as such is in use as a church all the time so be mindful of any folk using it as such when visiting.
The surrounding grounds and campus are well kept and there are bits of sculpture - modern - dotted around.
It was nice to see it lit up at night as got dark while we were there!
On our way back to our car we noticed that the multistory carpark (opposite the fire department) is also pay and display but that bit is in smaller print than the 'need a pass' so that didnt register when still in the car.

I love coming here to relax after a hard day, taking in the pretty flowers or coming to a nice church service. Despite it being on a college campus, it still has that community feel.

This was away from the oceanside activities, but offered an excellent access to the interstate for the next leg of my journey.

An easy walk from Santa Clara train station. Externally and internally a beautiful building. Impressive. Peaceful. Outside, there were glorious roses and carefully tended gardens. Situated in the impressive grounds of the University of Santa Clara, where we came across a Native American meeting, celebrating with dance and music. Ironic that it should be just by the Mission. Memorable visit.

Stop at the guard gate off the El Camino Real campus entrance for a free 2-hour parking pass to park in the garage. Then walk up the main pedestrian mall to the church and rose garden. Since it’s in the care of the school, it’s very well-maintained. No admission fee and open both early and late. Definitely worth a short visit. The campus is lovely as well!

The church had a bell tower, and two of three bells were a gifts of the king of Spain! The mission was also richly ornamented with paintings. If you want to know more, go to, Mission Santa Clara De Asia by, Toucan Vally Publications ,Inc. all if you need to know more you can check out a book called Mission Santa Clara de Asia by: Amy Margaret, also if you need to know about other missions you can check out books by Amy Margaret.

I just want to add one thing here. The day I was in the Mission church, I came upon a rehearsal. The acoustics in the building totally blew me away. I would also recommend visiting the Camelite church, also in town. It has some fine statuary, and lovely gardens also. My husband's photography teacher took the class there to shoot pictures,
