This is a very useful library. We go most every time we are in Santa Maria. Many friends grew up in this area and we like to do research on historical information.

The Santa Maria Public Library is a community asset. Besides the opportunity to borrow books, there is access to computers as well as now presentations for the community.

For a smaller city the library has lots of stuff. Not only books, but tons of videos and the rentals are 21 days. They also have a genealogy section which a cool resource for getting started on family history.

Very helpful staff. Every area is well organized, neat and clean. Each of the areas reserved for special needs (such as audio books or books reserved on-line) are very easy for visitors to find what they are looking for. Computer stations are very conveniently placed near research areas.

Ever since the library made its move to the new building I have enjoyed being able to drop in and check out some of their books on tape. Great for when you are traveling and want to take advantage of the time to "read" a good book. You can also go to their website and check out e-books to download.

This library has all the latest features in technology. It also has a wonderful children's section and many special events. The best part is the store run by Friends of the Library located in the lobby. There you can buy a used book for a few dollars, new cards,puppets for your favorite child, and much more.

Here on the Central Coast, the libraries tend to run from small to very small. This library is one of the few exceptions. It is a nice medium-sized library that has all of the facilities you'd expect.

We use mostly the Orcutt Branch and that is very convenient for us. No need to drive to the down town branch, unless you are looking for a larger selection. Nice reading section with comfy chairs and plenty of light. Great place to take the grandkids when out of school.

Helpfull people can direct you to where you need to good. Good selection of books and a other media material. Hour are such you will be able to use the library when you wish.
