We had our wedding at the Old Lighthouse recently. The team couldn't have been more helpful and the lighthouse provided the most amazing backdrop. We absolutely loved our day - it was everything we hoped it would be.

Interesting to climb up lighthouse, find out about lighthouses in general and this one in particular. Great view from the top, and, despite the wind, we could climb out onto the balcony. Plenty to look at, the children learnt loads. Plus you can see the trains looking even more like toys!

We have been here regularly over the past 10 years , love the area, tranquility & remote natural beauty......Decided to get Married up The lighthouse (17.10.22 ) Unfortunately the wedding organisers is useless, can't communicate I a normal fashion .The Wedding day was being carefully planned with detailed itinerary for over 2 years ....my poor husband arrived on the day to chaos ,2 members of staff not knowing what was happening or where the ceremony was taking place etc ...absolutely outrageous!! Our photographer was messaging me saying no one knows what's happening in the lighthouse!! Our guests were told you can't go up etc etc ...this was total chaos !
The stress of this whole experience was totally unnecessary 😒...such a let down on our special day ......the staff have no communication skills at all & clearly don't really want you to hire out the lighthouse for weddings as its too much trouble for them ...

I have carefully taken statements from the staff involved. I would start by saying that I am of course very sorry that you were upset on your wedding day.
The staff tell me that your husband arrived first and was shown to the gallery where you wanted to get married. Usually this takes place on the first floor. The day, as it often can be at Dungeness was extremely windy and raining. Nevertheless the wedding was carried out outside as you wished. Numbers of course limited due to conditions being dangerous. Some of your guests were invited to stay on the floor underneath where they could hear the ceremony. The registrars wished to sign the register on the first floor as usual. At your request the table and chairs were carried with much difficulty up the narrow stairs to accommodate your requirements. This was something not requested in advance and is the very first time asked for.
The staff say they did their very best to do everything to make the day go well. They couldn’t do anything to stop the weather making the wedding party on the gallery being soaked by the bad weather of course.
The Old Lighthouse has hosted so many lovely and happy weddings. It was sad for the staff and myself to read your review.

A lovely old lighthouse. Good climb to the top for great views of the area. It wasn6too busy so easy to climb the stairs and view from outside. Well worth the £4.50.

Set off on 2hr journey to visit.Left at 8am to be there at opening time.There were a coach of children so had a coffee first Walked to find on door stating Sorry closed School visit.We waited as children were leaving and asked staff member if it would be opening soon.Staff member had a very rude manor about her and said I'm going for a coffee now.We said were wait in car to be told have another group visiting then I might close.
Our young family were very upset as this was something they wanted to do.
There were no online booking facilities and no advise on app to say.
Very disappointed.

I am sorry to read your review and apologise for your disappointment.
On the day there was notice on the phone regarding the school party but not as you say on the website.
The school party were in the Lighthouse longer than expected due to an unplanned visit by the Dungeness Warden who gave a very enjoyable talk to the children. This overran till 1pm. I understand from the keeper of the day that she told you she was having a short break for coffee and would reopen after 20 mins. She then went into the Lighthouse until 3.30 but you didn’t come in. I’m sorry if you found her rather brusque as you say. I never like to disappoint children.

We were staying near by and walked to to light house. The member of staff was super friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed climbing up the stairs and stopping to read the information. Great views from the top, shame we couldn’t go outside but that was explained to us before we paid.

Great family activity to do in Dungeness. 196 steps or there abouts. Really interesting history to read about the lighthouse and Dungeness itself, on each level, as you go up the lighthouse. The last set of steps are almost like a ladder and may be a little difficult with really young children.

I’m glad you enjoyed your visit. People do take young children to the very top. No accidents in the past 40 years thankfully. The old lighthouse keepers children as much older people told us tales of racing up and down and round and round the top outside gallery - when it only had basic railings. Would be thought of as very poor parenting today I fear. Best wishes.

Lighthouse not open when we visited which was disappointing. Located on the Dungeness nature reserve near the power station.

Sorry to disappoint . Staff difficulties due to illness and covid. Dungeness is a wonderful place to visit. So many interesting places. Best wishes.

Hadn’t planned this visit as we didn’t know it existed.
Well worth the climb up the stairs even if my motorcycle buddy got his entire annual exercise in one morning.
The lady on reception was really lovely and informed.

Not the first visit here but always love to show my face when I go there. Love the surroundings. Lots of steps so are warned, not for people who hate heights but for the rest definitely worth the visit to the top.

No tickets for infants but we do ask of they can be carried in a Baby carrier in front of you.
The nearest Public transport if the Stagecoach regular bus which runs from a Bus Stop near the Pilot Inn Lydd on Sea
and then walk the one mile plus to Lighthouse or bus to New Romney or Hythe and take the RHDR to Dungeness
Dungeness has RHDR Cafe new this year and the nearest Pub is the Brittania and further on just off Dungeness is the Pilot Inn.
