Excellent RSPB nature reserve. Amazing landscape of shingle, marshes and open skies. Friendly talkative staff. Good hides in constant renovation. I managed to see a mash harrier in action, coal tits & a chaffin by the feeders. Also lots of cormorants, swans, coots, gulls etc. There is a good shop in the visitor centre where you can buy your souvenirs, optics etc. You can also have a drink and snack while admiring one of the lakes. However, there is no cafe at such which is a shame. Perhaps RSPB should look at what Sussex Wildlife trust has achieved at Rye harbour to get more revenue and more nature enthusiasts.

We spent a few hours here and had a lovely time. There are lots of different walks and we followed the two hour one which is a circular trail taking in a lot of the reserve. We saw lots of different sea birds as well as many dragonflies and a kingfisher.

I had enrolled on a guided Spring Wildlife Walk for my first visit to this brilliant reserve. It is essentially a shingled expanse studded by water-filled gravel pits, one of which is huge. They attract a wide variety of birds.
Conditions were blowy but there was still so much bird life to see, with the bonus of a lizard basking in the weak Spring sunshine. We saw and heard lots of species. Not being an expert, it was useful to have our guide help with identification.
There is a shop plus toilets on site. Coffee is available from a machine.
I spent three hours there. Next time I’ll come on a warm day, bring a picnic and spend the whole day.
It’s also worth looking around the area - quite desolate but with a charm of its own.

Very different from my last visit 30+ years ago! Great visitor centre overlooking a lake, good well-kept gravel paths, plenty of different viewpoints over various parts of the reserve. I think the toilets may well be the same as the ones I used back then though...
We saw plenty of species, including marsh harriers, great white egrets and a wheatear, plus we heard a bittern. No sign of the glossy ibis though - or even any avocets. Children had a spotter sheet to try and tick off what we could see.

The RSPB reserve at Dungeness covers a wide area with a well marked out 2 mile walk taking in the main sites. Many bird hides throughout and the landscape is amazing what with the power station looming in the background. Not as commercial as Rye Habour which is no bad thing giving the location. Toilets and car park available but no refreshments when we visited so take a packed lunch! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Recommended.

RSBP Dungeness is a lovely site with a variety of walks, hides etc. to enjoy both the wide variety of wildlife and the outdoors. Situated close to the nuclear power station the site is very different.
There is plenty of parking on the main site with a smaller car park opposite. The visitors centre offers a limited choice of 'self serve' refreshments with a small sitting area overlooking one of the lakes.
The staff were helpful and friendly and the small RSBP shop well stocked.

I recently spent around 6 hours at this reserve. I enjoyed what it had to offer so much I actually went round twice. I was fortunate enough to see a number of wading birds and a few songbirds but the highlight was seeing the Marsh Harriers. Seeing them in action was spectacular. There were also many butterflies to see too. I didn't get to see the Bearded Tits but the fairly strong winds might have stopped them from coming out.
The reserve itself is very well maintained. A couple of the hides are currently out of action, but they are being repaired so hopefully they'll be available for use soon. There are many benches around the reserve to stop, take in the views and enjoy the nature around you. The terrain is flat with paths being mostly stone or boardwalks. There are a few grassy pathways, which I guess may get boggy in wetter times.I would like to thank Vanessa and Barnaby from the RSPB who were at the visitor centre and welcome point. They were incredibly helpful and happy to answer my many questions about birds , butterflies and binoculars! Their enthusiasm certainly rubbed off on me and added to the enjoyment of the day.
