Birthday Party for 10yr old!

I booked "The Elevated" Birthday party package online for my daughter's 10th birthday. I purchased for the minimum of 6 flyers thinking I could add on if any additional kids came last minute, but weekends are super busy and by the time we confirmed 48 hours in advance, the day was fully booked. It worked out okay with a few "unable to attend". Unfortunately, I didn't warn the attendees of the strict time constraint and one of the kids missed the 10 minute cutoff and wasn't able to fly. The rest of the kids did have a great time and the included high-flight, photo, and video for each flyer was a nice bonus. It took less than an hour from the official 11am 'check-in' time we were booked for, gearing up, training session with the instructor, flights (including 4 others not in our party), and undressing. Shawn was a great instructor for the kids. They're fairly efficient on a fully booked Saturday, and it helped that all the kids had their waivers filled out in advance. Our party room was ready for us at noon and we moved right in.

Online Info on the Birthday party accommodations was limited, and I didn't get a chance to ask the party coordinator about the details. The party room had a refrigerator full of sodas, and there was a cold/hot water dispenser and a Keurig coffee maker available. The table was set up with a tablecloth, a couple of balloon weights (no balloons), plates and napkins, and we were provided 3 large pizzas (we were able to choose the toppings in advance when providing the final count of attendees). There was an additional table available that we set presents on, and they had additional napkins, forks and cups. We brought our own cake, cake cutter, candles, and lighter. . .so it's a lot more "hands off" for the staff than other places (like Pump it Up and Chuck E Cheese where they have dedicated hosts). We actually preferred this as space was limited in the room and it kept the experience more intimate. There was a window if we wanted to watch the fliers from the following sessions, and another window with a nice view out the front of the facility. A TV was also available, but we didn't use it. 1 hour was plenty of time for pizza, drinks, cake, and present opening.

Important tips for event planners:
*Set your invitation start time to be 15 mins before the 'check-in' time
*Ask for RSVPs at least a week in advance of the party date (to get a final count by the time IFly calls)
*A few days before the party, Send a reminder to all the flyers to arrive on time on flight day. . .better to come early than miss the flight experience altogether.
*Bring additional decorations, we only had a banner, which we put up ourselves, but supposedly they'll put up decorations you provide if asked.
*Ask the Ifly event coordinator any questions. . .she won't offer details unless asked.

(Veteran moms cans ignore the advice above. . .I'm sure you're rolling your eyes and thinking 'duh', but this is coming from a mom that does these things few and far between ...boo me!)

First, let me say Thomas and Shawn were great instructors. They were very good with both my wife and I...especially because it was a unique date for both of us and I wanted to do something different.

The efficiency of the operation, however, left me wondering if I made a mistake. Don’t set an appointment for 5:30 pm if you expect to get out of there any earlier than 7:30 pm. And that was for only 120 seconds of actual fly time.

We could have done the video, suit up and had follow up instructions delivered within about 20 minutes tops. Waiting 40 minutes to just get started was bulls**t. Then waiting even longer between instruction and getting in the tube was bigger BULLS**T!!

Enjoyed the flying part...A LOT!

I took my niece for her 18th birthday. We were both pretty nervous but the staff was awesome and helped us feel more comfortable and safe. After the 1st flight my niece was still hesitant to try the high flight but she did it and had a blast! Our instructor Andrew was awesome! He made our entire group feel confident and safe. We did the extra virtual reality flight and highly recommend it! We are definitely going back and bringing friends :)

Yes, for the best experience you need to be able to go with the flow. Delays can happen. Your arrival is to get everyone booked at that time in the building and checked in. They allow approximately 30 min for that. Then flight school is approximately 10 min. Then suiting up the 10 or so people per flight group, which includes flight suit, googles and helmet is another 20-30 min. This is for your safety. Everything needs to fit appropriately. Then you wait your turn for the air tunnel. We were first timers and we were a bit nervous. Shaun was our instructor and the key instruction, beyond knowing and understanding the hand signals, was to relax! Just lay on the airstream and let it hold you. No need to tense your muscles. I watched how some of the instructors got a bit beat up by people fighting the airstream. So I can understand why there is a weight limit and why it is the instructors decision. They are at risk of injury. Our experience was amazing! Exhilarating is the term I use!! We signed up for the package of 10 to return. If you can avoid the weekends, do yourself that favor. Children’s Birthday parties are prominent then. Otherwise, take flight and enjoy the ride!!

Got singled out for being too fat to fly

So I paid $300 on gift cards for this place for my daughters birthday. When I got here I was informed to “let the staff know if you are more than 260 lbs”. I informed staff that I weighed approx 262-263. The girl at the front counter had to run upstairs to “check with the instructors”. Upon her return, she let me know that my body weight was a safety risk and they would not allow me to fly. I felt utterly humiliated and ashamed that I was deemed too fat to fly. When I told my wife and 2 girls that they would have to fly without me and explained why, everyone began to cry.
The website clearly explains that if you exceed 300lbs, you will not be allowed to fly but says nothing about 260+ people being turned away at the door. Apparently it is “at the instructors discretion” wether or not they will let a fatty like me take part.
I will never come here again and I will tell everyone who will listen not to support this place of business.
They should be ashamed!! At least give me a damn refund!!!!!
To be clear, this review is for the SF (Union City) location, not Sacramento (Roseville) location.

Mmmm. Not So Much.

When it says start time is 10:30 - do not get there a minute sooner or you have wasted hours!
You will have to deal with two girls that will remind you of your teens - surly, rude, no smiles, no eye contact and one of them has the smirk down cold.
No 'how may we help you?' - you just wait for them to acknowledge the peons.
What they are doing on the computers is beyond me since the customer does it ALL on-line.
This also has to be the smallest iFly and a disappointment if you have been to another - San Diego is huge and when you go higher with the instructor is indeed high.
I feel that for the wait, the girls at the desk and the price of such a small facility where "flying" is hampered - we were robbed.
The rest of the staff?
Well, they knew they were not royalty and treated everyone very well.

They are listening even when you think they aren't...

We took a group of youth 9 12 - 17 years old) to iFly. These youth are new to many , MANY different things. Some have never been outside of their own city limits. They wanted to do something fun and adventurous... many this type of activity was a bit too adventurous, they didn't do so great. The real point here is that they tried it!

Their confidence greatly dropped after our instructor spoke to another adult flyer from our group. They spoke about how the instructor had a difficult flight, "some people just don't know how to do things", they exchanged laughs and the instructor shared that some groups are more difficult than other.

Sounds like a casual "rough day at work" conversation right...?

It would have been casual... if it didn't happen to take place right in front of our kids.

Our kids walked out of the building feeling extremely uncomfortable, insecure, and unhappy.

They tried something completely out of their comfort zone and were shot down. Definitely a disappointing visit.

Amazing Flying Experience!

I had an amazing time. This was my first time flying and the instructor Austin was an incredible instructor. He explained everything in detail so when we got into the tunnel, we could fly right away. We were even doing advanced turns and exiting in more advanced ways. He is a terrific instructor. He was so uplifting and positive it makes you want to try more and push yourself. I would definitely come back because of Austin!

Not a smooth customer service experience

Really wish I could say some better things as the actual experience of flying is wonderful. However, the elements surrounding it could be improved.
I had purchased for my niece and nephew, two Spread your Wings vouchers last year. When I went to book them online, only one voucher worked so I chose to cancel the transaction and call in. The call was answered in a timely manner, and the girl I spoke with seemed used to the problem and quickly said there would be no problem and they would honour the voucher that didn't work. At that time I also added two extra flyers (for a total of 4pax) and paid with a credit card, but noticed that I was not told what price would be charged before she put the transaction through. The call was finished and I wasn't told much more about the experience.
Later I realised I had not been sent a confirmation email.
On the day of our booking, it was cancelled due to the smoke from the bush fires in the area. Luckily, we were called early enough and did not waste time driving to the facility. I see by reading other reviews that others were not so lucky.
I called a few days later to re-schedule for that day and was booked into a session. A few minutes later the same customer service agent called back to say he'd made a mistake and there wasn't actually room in that session for our 4 pax, but that the following session had recently had a cancellation and there was room. Not a huge deal, but seemed an unnecessary hassle. Why did he put me in a session where there was not space in the first place?
I also, again, did not receive a confirmation email.
When we arrived for our booking, everyone at the front counter was on the phone and it did take a few minutes to be helped. But it seemed to be a easy check in process.
However, once upstairs and after the training class, after a confusing conversation with the instructor about how I wanted to split the flights, I found out that the booking only had 3 packages on it and (I'm guessing) the voucher that didn't work was never made on the booking. It seemed they could have left a note on the booking or something when I originally made the booking and had a problem with a voucher, but I guess not.
So I had to go back downstairs and sort that out while the kids were gearing up. They were apologetic and offered free photo's and videos as a consolation.
It was, however, not much of a consolation as the quality of the photo's and videos was paltry to say the least. There were barely any photos of my kids and of the one's taken, only one or two that were halfway decent, i.e. not blurry and actually facing the camera.

The staff were friendly and truly wished to help. I just think they are not given the resources they need to do their job to the best of their ability.

For being a multi-million dollar company world-wide, the tech they have is sub-par. It feels like a glorified carnival ride.
It seems they have a long way to go to catch up to the rest of the world.
