Drove up to Angeles National Park and parked near Grassy Hollow at a lookout called Inspiration Point from whence we hiked further up to play in the snow which had fallen earlier this week.
The park was filling up as we came in midmorning and later in the afternoon as we left there was a very very ling line of cars trying to come in.
When we had haqd our fill of snow and icy puddles we walked back down to our car and took out the picnic lunch we had packed. There were two benches looking out at a stunning, snow-capped peak across the way, where we sat and enjoyed the warm sunny day while we ate.

This is the second of two Nature Centers on the historic Angels Crest Highway that runs from La Canada to Wrightwood. I highly recommend visiting both the Chilao Visitor Center and this one, Grassy Hollow Visitor Center. They have some cool taxidermy and other fun things for kids. They have a push button opposites video series about different animals and lift the flap wall information that is easy to miss as it blends into a mural. They have a binocular station on the deck where you can do some amazing bird watching!!!

They also have a bunch of free Smoky Bear swag! We even got a frisbee! Both these nature centers provided a ton of fun for our family! Great stop!

This is a nicely laid out visitors center that families with kids would enjoy. They have several small exhibit areas with very knowledgable Docents & Staff to assist your questions. There are several areas around the center where even younger kids can hike the PC Trail and there is picnic area as well, so pack a lunch and enjoy the views and slightly cooler climate. The downside is that it is only open on Saturdays and Sundays 10 to 4.

The center was a wonderful collection of history, local information and displays of indigenous animals and floral. Unfortunately it was vandalized recently. We all hope that by this summer it will be up and running again. When it reopens it is a great place for families and children to begin learning about the local area and is a starting location for hikes that include part of the Pacific Crest Trail.

This a great starting point for people coming up to the Wrightwood are and want to learn about the country, forest, vegetation and animal life in the area. The people are very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. This a good starting point for hiking around the area. The last time we visited the visitor center there was evidence of black bear very close-by.

We were there on 9/2/17. It was a great place to stop by before we went on our Big Horn Mine hike 2 miles away from the center. Visitor's Center has nice restrooms , a spacious nature museum, and a large parking lot including picnic tables. We bought our 'Adventure Pass' parking permit there for $5.00, well worth the price compared to a possible ticket. Well worth stopping here to rest and relax on your way through the forest area.

Drove up to Wrightwood today to cheer on the Amgen Tour of California cyclists and discovered this little gem nearby! A bit rough around the edges, but well worth a stop. Plenty of parking on the day we visited, many picnic spots, and real restrooms with flushing toilets! (But beware: no Waxie paper seat covers and no soap is provided to wash afterwards. ugh!) Very helpful group of volunteers inside. A nice blend of "hands on" and "do not touch" exhibits. (Although some of the them have seen better days.) Stop by and read the plaque adjoining the large rock outside. It is unique. The real highlight for me was the bird viewing deck out back. Glad I had my binoculars in the car. The place was teeming with birds and other critters enjoying the numerous feeders.
*Remember - the visitor's center is only open on the weekends.

The visitor center is only open weekends and has some nice exhibits. Come during the week and use their parking lot for hiking. Directly across from the driveway to the parking lot you will see the Pacific Crest Trail.
It's just past the picnic area. Best bet is too turn left and hike within a few miles you see many different views mainly of the desert. It's a refreshing hike on hot summer days. In the spring take a right on the trail and within a few minutes you will see plenty of wild flowers. Great hike all year.

Run almost exclusively by volunteers, they sponsor a number of wonderful hikes and if there were ever snow they have snow shoeing! We can hope. The displays are helpful key to the local geology and natural history.

Love this place! Adjacent to the Pacific Crest Trail, knowledgable volunteers to host and share history, knowledge of wildlife, flora and fauna. A fun way to sneak in some education on your kids and a uplifting communion with nature. It's free, but please donate anything you can, every little bit helps!
