We enjoyed the comic relief of the "Merry Wives of Windsor" especially so with everything going on in the world. The acting and costumers were excellent. The venue was nice and cool on a hot summer Sunday afternoon.

I am at the moment trying to recover from the abuse that was laid up on me by CU's Merry Wives of Windsor.
I should say that I love Shakespeare and have seen his works countless times.
This production was so awful that I had trouble finding words to describe how the play was butchered. I have never walked out of a production. But in this case I found it necessary to flee not even waiting for intermission.
I don't know what the director got for directing this production but he should have got life without parole.
If any of the players should read this I would strongly suggest that you read Hamlet's instructions to the players.
If you are considering seeing this production I have one word for you. DON'T.

I really didn’t know much about TheShakespeare Festival, but I was looking for something different to do in Colorado. I had read The Merry Wives of Windsor was a comedy but that’s about all I knew. As the performance opened I saw that this production was set in the 1970’s and I hesitated for a minute. But I quickly got on board to the style, the dancing and the music. The actors were hilarious, with the perfect comedic timing and physical skills. I originally thought the performance would be outside but I appreciate the venue was smaller, making the audience feel like a community. I did not expect to laugh so hard tonight. I will definitely be recommending this play to my friends

Amazing time at King Lear. Great performance, amazing effects, and really comfortable outdoor seating. A truly delightful evening and we’ll try to catch more shows next year!

This was such a fun evening August 2023. The amphitheater was perfect with no bad seat, and our show was full! We saw "Comedy of Errors" and it was hilarious. Sound was excellent as we were in the 2nd to last row. 2 rain showers passed over us but it was in the forecast and all seemed to have come prepared. Didn't last. We totally enjoyed our evening.

We attend performances of CU's wonderful Shakespeare Festival in their outdoor amphitheater every summer and are never disappointed at the quality of the performances as well as the ingenuity of the staging and direction. It's both professional and charming and we look forward to it each year.

We had an absolute blast at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival on Opening Night on June 13th, 2023...We enjoy Shakespeare's Comedies, so we went to see Much Ado About Nothing and it did not disappoint! The performers really engaged the audience and had us laughing out loud and chanting during the show. The time period was set to 1920's Paris, just after World War 1. I wasn't sure how I would like the more modern setting, but it was done well and I really enjoyed the adaptation of it. The costumes were great, the stage and settings were wonderful, and they really utilized the entire arena (don't want to give away any spoilers) :) I have seen several shows here many years ago but don't live as close as I used to so its been a while. I thought it would be fun to take my teenaged daughter and her friend, along with my Aunt who has never been before and they all LOVED it!
There was a 20 minute intermission which provided ample time to use the restroom and/or grab snacks or Left Hand Brewing Company Beers which you could purchase at their stand along with souvenirs such as t-shirts, hoodies and other items. The prices are what you would expect...a little pricey, but all to support the Festival. Waters were $5.00 for a small bottle, snacks the same. They provided portable stadium chairs with backings so you could sit comfortably during the show, and there is not a bad seat in the house. You could see the stage from any seat and the view was great. We had front row seats which really put you in the action, but all of the seats were good. We were concerned about rain, so be sure to keep that in mind since it is an outdoor theatre and they play rain or shine. We brought rain jackets and a water proof blanket to keep in our lap just in case, but with all the rain we've been having we were fortunate that the weather cooperated that evening and we had a dry, but cool night. (so you might want to bring a blanket to keep off the chill for those cooler mountain nights). Parking was a bit of a pain and we ended up parking quite far from the theatre. For some reason the parking garage we were hoping to park in was closed in the evenings, and the lots were far unless you had a permit. They highly recommend other modes of transportation, which I suppose is fine if you live in Boulder...we do not. But with the nice weather, we did not mind the walk back to the car.
We had so much fun discussing the show on the drive home and decided we need to make it an annual tradition. Engaging teenagers isn't easy, and these two girls had an absolute blast! They are still talking about the show. Thank you for a great evening. And if you have never been...give it a chance...you will not be disappointed! :)

Expensive for a quickly pulled.together ensemble. Three people were last.minute adds. They tried to blow it off as style

Saw Two Gentlemen of Verona. Beautiful outdoor setting and the actors were very entertaining, doing some great adlibs as it was a comedy. Plus a dog and a scooter on stage - what more could you ask for?!

We recently attended a performance of Two Gentlemen of Verona and it was great. There were a few moments of adlibbing due to circumstances (some involving the dog) and it was hilarious. Purchasing a bottle of water is a little pricey at $5 but it was so hot that evening and necessary looked at it as a donation really. If you are in Boulder in the summer do look for a performance to attend they are great.
