Take the free 16th street shuttle to the union station and you are right there to to go wherever. Easy and reasonably priced.

I had some friends tell me to try this. We had never tried light rail before, so this was a great chance.
From South Denver (Lonetree), we caught light rail ‘E’ line to the Pepsi Center. After paying to park ($4.00), we purchased train tickets with a credit card and boarded the train.
It makes a lot of stops on the way downtown, but the train moves along quite quickly. It took about 40 minutes to arrive at the Pepsi Center.
A short walk to the front door and we were in hockey heaven.
The Avs beat the RedWings handily, so we left our seats with about 4 minutes left on the clock and headed back to the platform.
It was comfortable getting out of there and back down to the South end. Fun trip. I’d do it again.

After I retrieved my bags, I headed to the RTD, used the machine to get a ticket one way to downtown Denver (Senior discount ($4.50) Last stop was Union Station, then took free 16 street mall bus......great way to travel and CHEAP........

I was a bit apprehensive since the last time I came to Denver this was not in operation. This should be the ONLY way to get to and from the airport! It's clean, safe & secure and quiet! It brought me to Union Station downtown where I caught the free 16th street bus to a block from my hotel!

I usually drive to Denver but thought I’d try the light rail system into Denver from the airport. Awesome! Reminds me of public transportation in Europe. Everyone uses it. As a senior user, I am careful on the accessibility of all my accommodations. Smooth, accessible, short wait, and all around excellent. May never drive again.

definitely the way to get around denver IF the system goes to where you need to go. and if it does not, then uber the final mile or two!

Dit middel van vervoer is een verademing. Niet zoeken naar parkeerplaatsen of iets. Een zorgen van waar laat ik mijn auto. Heerlijkl relax en dan ook nog wat kunnen drinken.

We used to use light rail all the time, but now we have to check time of day and day of week to find out if we can get somewhere and back. Even when you can theoretically get there and back, service snafus can cause late arrivals and/or missed meetings. We've ridden light rails in many countries with mere ease and better results than this and at dramatically cheaper prices.

Not even locals use this public transportation system. The trains run very infrequently, every 1/2 hour, and the stations are next to impossible to find. Won’t be wasting time with this again.

The $10.50 fare is outrageous. Is there a bus alternative? I looked at the 169L connecting to the 15. Or the 169L to Tower/32nd, then walk to Gateway Park Station. But maybe they would be $10.50 as well since they leave from the DEN zone? Thanks for any advice.

If you don't have too many luggage, I recommend Tech Center area along with other travelers mentioned above. You have to change RTD once from the airport. Drury hotel at Dry Creek Rd. is located right by I-25 and across the street from Dry Creed RTD station. Parking is free on the hotel site and Tax is much cheaper than downtown or airport area. Breakfast and afternoon snack are included.
You can go to down town: Union Station,16th street mall, Theatre area, Civic Center, Capitol bldg., etc. by RTD from this station. Hotel has shuttle bus to and from one of the biggest malls in Denver. There are more hotels along F-Line RTD near Tech Center and hotel tax is also cheaper this area.

Take the A train to Union Station (from the airport to downtown) and then switch to the W line and you will get all the way to Golden. The A train is $9 ($4.50 if you are over 62). I have not taken the train to Golden but that looks easy. Alternatively, a rental car at Avis or Hertz downtown could get you out to Golden and the costs will be lower than the airport charges on the rental car.
How safe is the light rail? My flight gets in about 10pm.

I felt safe each time I rode it. I felt very safe each time I rode it. I boarded at the airport and went to Union Station.
