The lake is beautiful. The swim beaches were very nice. Unfortunately, when camping, there is no supervision from CPW rangers or local sheriff. Campers were unruly and abused sites and played music well past curfew also many campers were squatting without reservations.
As for the grounds there is very little shade. Campsites are overgrown with weeds due to lack of maintenance. The bathhouses are tired and need TLC. Although the showers are free the coin boxes are still intact but with hanging wires or broke open from vandals. CPW should be ashamed of how this state park looks.

We rented the Centennial Picnic Area for $150. It is rustic and was dirty and doesn’t have running water or a flush toilet. For the money I paid, I should have had catering!!!! One of the grills is burnt through and can’t be used. The other grill is in the sun. This place is worth about $30 for the day as there is no way to clean it to have a decent area to picnic.

We thought it was great! Didn’t know what to expect and were pretty concerned after reading some of the negative reviews! Glad that we checked it out. We were in Site 87 at Pelican Campground. Good shade in the afternoon (from the van), but no shade in the morning. Great view of the lake, and we loved the Dark Sky Community vibe! Roads in and out are rock/sand, so a little rough, but we managed fine in our 25’ van and others pulling trailers in the camps around us seemed to do OK. There were also some big rigs around. Important piece of info - showers are coin operated (50 cents for a few minutes), and there’s only one shower per campground. I’m sure we could have tracked down some quarters if we were desperate, but we just skipped the shower. Vault and flush toilets available, but no soap dispensers to be found, so carry your hand sanitizer with you!

Off the beaten path. This is a location you choose for location.
Beautiful lake with swimming beaches.
Dump station only.
Next door to a marina.
Nice level sites.
Water fill stations only in designated locations.
Nice bath house.
Very quiet and dark at night.

Beware of goat’s head stickers everywhere! We were pleased with the space between campsites but the thorns made it impossible to safely walk the dog and we had to be very mindful of scraping our shoes before getting back into our RV. This time of the year, the water is off, so there is only pit toilets available if you are not self-contained. However, in March, the campground is extremely peaceful and if you are a stargazer, it would be a great place to be away from light pollution to look at the night sky.
The lake was frozen over so we have no comment to make about swimming or boating here. Would like to try and come back to kayak here some day. Sadly, the visitor center was only open one of four days we attempted to visit it. There’s a cute gift shop, but I went home without any gifts because the office was closed during regular business hours The sign said the staff would be back soon but no luck! Twice!

I’d rate the park a 5 but we didn’t get to fish because the water level was so low (not the park’s fault). We’re only on Day 2 of 4 but after reading all the terrible reviews I have to quickly post something positive. When camping outdoors, in a campground, be realistic: there will be other (often inconsiderate) people, there may be bugs. Camp in your backyard if you need to control your surroundings. We’re here during the week, in cool September, the beach is huge and clean, bug spray is controlling the flies and mosquitoes, the only noise is the subtle gobbling of the turkeys. We’ll be back to our shady space in Lakeside loop by the water.

We were so disappointed with this place. We were intending to camp for 4 nights - left on the 2nd day. The water in the showers was FREEZING cold. The beach was not good and there were soooo many bugs we had to leave.

HORRIBLE! Just DO NOT! Only pulled through to take a look, use the bathroom and let the dog stretch out for a second. OMG you would have thought we were robbing the trees! These people think they can treat people like this without getting a bad review! He will write you a ticket just for trying to use the LOCKED bathroom. I was not there for more than 5 minutes. I was actually taking a look to pick out a good spot to call and get a campsite. NEVER AGAIN! Keep your dirty park, you nasty man. NEVER pull through this place, if you are looking for peace. Ruined my whole day.

Whoever rated this place as a top beach knows nothing about beaches & thinks the Beaches of Cheyenne are beautiful. The water was green & foamy. The water level dropped about 6' while we were there. The beach smelled like lots of dead things from fish to crawdads to ....
The Lakeside Campground we stayed at was nice with lots of trees, many places to get potable water, showers & flush toilets. The women's bathroom did not appear to be cleaned in the 3 days we were there as the same bits of toilet paper were on the floor from day one to day 3. Though it was not smelly or slimy. There were a lot of little sugar ants around but if you keep a clean campsite they are not a problem. Racoons came through the campground every night, it is the "wild" prairie so, to be expected.

As some of the other reviews have mentioned, this certainly isn’t the nicest State Park but, the worst thing was a faction of people that act like they own the place! They’re able to get away with this because they’re in tight with one of the managers who’s name is Ryan. He’s the most drunk, belligerent bully I’ve ever met and his ‘people’ take his lead on pushing their weight around. My wife and daughter did not feel safe here and we left after just one night. Just an awful place! Until he power structure at Jackson Lake is changed, this is definitely a place to avoid!
