Stately home of sorts but more of a museum with some lovely artefacts, quite small with five rooms open but every member of staff I spoke to went out of their way to be helpful. Got back to my car to find a passive aggressive note from a staff member as I’d blocked their car in, genuine mistake as I’d just without thinking parked next to someone who had also parked on the same row and it was very full.
Not sure why they couldn’t have spent 2mins asking around the five couples there were in the small house who had parked and kindly asked them to move. Must of taken longer to find the paper and sharpie. Unprofessional conduct. Perhaps this happens often so it would be an idea for staff not to use the front of car park, or have a different car staff park or improve layout so visitors can park near to the house as I think there were more cars that actual visitors!

I was pleased to hear that you found our staff to be so helpful.
We are indeed an Accredited Museum with 14 rooms open to visitors. Our collection is extensive, being amassed by one individual, and spans many thousands of years. There is interpretation in every room, the most detailed of which is placed in the spaces with high interest collections, such as the Japanese and Egyptian. Other collections include portraits and relics from the Stuart and Jacobite period of history, beautiful Buddhist objects and a substantial number of antique books in the library.
The house itself is Grade 11 listed and rooms open include The Streatfeild Room, Victorian Kitchen, Housekeepers Room, Great Hall and Servants Hall, in addition to the collections.
We apologise for the note left on your car. However, our car park is used by walking groups, visitors to the village, the school and pre-school as well as the castle, we are not always able therefore to locate the owners of vehicles, some of whom are away from their vehicle for several hours. Many people who use our car park do so frequently and it was felt by our team member, at the time, it was best to remind them to check that they are not obstructing other visitors, staff or residents.

What a lovely find, the story of the most recent owner, a bank clerk turned antique collector, who bought the house for £6,000 in the 1950s and his eclectic collection were fascinating. It is a privately run charity, the staff are most enthusiastic, the tea room is excellent: sandwiches made to order, homemade cakes and all served on China. The exhibits are explained well and there are NT properties who could learn from Chiddingstone about presenting and explaining their rooms and.exhibits.

Saw the sign on the drive back from Hever Castle and came the next day…….what a jewel and indicative of the beautiful houses we have hidden away……..the village is also enchanting.

Afternoon tea is an outstanding experience! The whole team worked incredibly hard to make our Mum's special birthday a joyful and memorable experience.
The quality of the tea was superb (thanks to Dawn and team) and everyone was brilliant from Donna welcoming us to the Guide assisting us across the Courtyard, making the day personalised and special.
Thankyou to all and we'll be back again soon!

Just been to see Wind in the Willows this afternoon in the orangery . What a lovely venue to see it in . Beautiful grounds and able to spread out with a picnic . Able to walk round the grounds and to the village . Pub belongs to NT but closed at present due to ongoing work .
First time here and dog friendly .
Car park £3.00 to be paid into honesty box . Tea room offer good choice of food including gluten and vegan . Lovely courtyard to sit in .
Dog friendly grounds and fishing lake available.

A fascinating and uncommercialised castle with some beautiful rooms and an eccentric collections. Pretty café with courtyard seating. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Much nicer to visit than the tourist hot spots nearby .

We visit Chiddingstone often and always enjoy walking around the lovely grounds. The castle is interesting with some beautiful rooms, collections and paintings, well worth a visit.
The traditional tearoom serves delicious scones/cakes/afternoon tea.
We like to look in the shop which sells some vintage items too but we were told on our last visit that they are getting rid of this which is such a shame. Apparently someone from nearby Hever Castle is helping create a new shop/grab &go so it will be more commercial. I can see a benefit with being able to grab a quick coffee but I hope it's better than the coffee at Hever as anytime we've visited, the coffee wasn't great.
I've heard others are sad to hear the vintage shop is going too so it's a shame they can't still do both.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your experience. I was pleased to hear that you enjoy visiting the grounds and find the collections inside the Castle to be intriguing. We are incredibly fortunate to have such an eclectic mix of artefacts dating back thousands of years, displayed in our museum accredited gallery spaces for visitors to explore. It is the case that there has been a full review of our retail offer, and as such there will be greater emphasis on gifts - from plant pots to tea pots - confectionary and locally sourced food & drink in the coming weeks. The installation of a coffee machine will be a welcome addition to our already exemplary tea room offer, serving a range of barista coffees, to have in the tea room courtyard or as a take away for those who wish to wander whilst they drink their refreshment. Chiddingstone Castle is a charitable trust, we receive no government funding. All income, whether charitable or commercial, enables us to remain open to the public. I do hope that you will continue to visit and enjoy the new items available in the gift shop and tea room.

Splendid day at the Vintage fair with such a good selection of stalls together with great food and lovely entertainment from singers and dancers. Definitely the best yet against the fantastic backdrop of this lovely Castle.

We always pop along to this vintage fair each year and have a great time. This year was no exception - so many stalls to look around, wonderful music and food trucks. Would thoroughly recommend!

Such a fabulous day out ! We arrived early on Sunday 30th for the vintage fair, I go every year and knew there would be plenty to see and do. Our day started with coffee and cake in the Castle Tearooms and we then spent a long morning browsing all the vintage stalls.
My husband was looking for some vintage garden tools and he loves vintage toy cars and even found some old postage stamps to add to his collection. I was looking for a photo frame and came away with the most gorgeous gold French frame and I found some fun vintage games to add to my collection for family get togethers. I also found a lovely vintage blouse and even some vintage desktop drawers for my craft supplies.
After all that shopping we settled down in front of the orangery in the castle grounds and enjoyed the live singer and the fabulous Lindy-Hop dancers, it was so much fun watching children having a go whilst we ate our wonderful salads from one of the great food vendors.
We finished our day with a stroll around the grounds and the pretty lake, it was such a lovely day and it was well worth the £7.50 entrance fee. If you get the chance to go next year I highly recommend it and I hear there’s a Vintage Christmas Fair too, I can’t wait !1

Unfortunately we do not allow dogs into the castle as we are also a museum, however you little dog is very welcome in our grounds (on a lead please) and also welcome in our tea room courtyard during opening times. Hope this helps.

We do have extensive lawns, lake and woodland in our grounds, but no play area as in swings etc! Our gift shop has a cricket and croquet set, and some balls which you are welcome to borrow and use on our South lawn. Our lake is fully stocked for fishing, you do need to bring your own equipment, children under 14 can fish for free with a full paying adult (£10). Hope this helps!

There must be a website, or phone number. When we were there the castle was closed and the entire area was deserted - it was bliss. We just enjoyed strolling around the grounds and admiring the flowers along the perimeter wall.
