Vail, Colorado, is two villages, not one, so reserve enough time to visit both of them because you won't want to miss all of the wonderful shops and restaurants. My wife and I have visited the town on two occasions. Located at the base of Vail Mountain and home to the massive Vail Ski Resort, 100 miles west of Denver off I-70, Vail is set within White River National Forest and is a gateway for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. But it is also a summertime destination for golfing, hiking, fishing and cultural festivals. We are summer people who prefer dining and shopping and sight-seeing to skiing. Vail is two villages with a combined population of 5,614 that are a 15-minute walk apart. Lionshead is said to be the best place to stay in Vail for first-time visitors. Peaceful and safe, it is home to many wonderful shops and restaurants. For Michelin-like dining, choose among Vail Chophouse, Montauk Seafood Grill, Tavern on the Square, El Sabor, Garfinkel's, The Little Diner, Bart & Yeti's or Bull Moose Pizza. Vail, modeled after a traditional Bavarian village with its car-free cobblestone streets, was made by skiiers for skiiers. It also offers fine dining with Sweet Basil, rated as the No. 1 restaurant in Vail, Matsuhisa, Mountain Standard, Pepi's Bar and Alpenrose. But it also is a shopping mecca with Perch, Burton, Salomon, The Golden Bear, Patagonia, Vail Ski Tech, Lululemon, Annie's, The Boot Lab and Valbruna. Make sure you see as much as you can.

Great beer and service, nice place to sit on the patio and check out the scenery, no food but who needs it.

My wife and I loved this tour. We went in September and the weather was very good and that helped make the walking tour so nice also. However, our tour guide, Matt, was fun and funny and full of interesting information about the beginnings and development of Vail. The tour lasted from about noon to about 2:30 pm. We had about 5 couples. You could sign up for alcohol drinks included or not. We started with champagne and poke with encrusted potato side dish at Terra Bistro at the Vail Mountain Lodge. Our next eating experience was at the Fall Line and we had a bourbon drink with fruit and vinegar (shrub) plus a very delicious coconut corn chowder and a pork slider. We went past the various areas including the statue of the mountain soldier who trained at Vail and who fought during WWII. We stopped at the Fuzziwigs Candy Factory and had chocolate caramels (and many of us bought other delicious candy). We walked though many areas and ended up at La Botegga restaurant with pinot grisio and gnocchi. Very well done!

I would recommend this food tour. Matt was very personable and told us about the history of Vail and told us many stories about the founders . We visited 3 restaurants and a candy shop. All of the food was delicious. We also purchased the alcohol option, which I recommend. We never felt as if Matt was rushing us in the restaurants. A very enjoyable 2-1/2 hours!

This was our first time visiting the Vail Village. We had a nice time widow shopping, eating and taking in the sights. They had a really neat fountain in the square, that was relaxing to watch.

Matt gave an excellent tour! The libations and bites were delish and it was fun to get out of vail village! It felt like we were cruising around town with a friend to his local gems/favorite spots. Definitely recommend!

This was my second time doing this tour (first time was in 2016) and it was just as great as the first! Matt is a wealth of knowledge about the history of Vail and the restaurants we visited. It's a wonderful way to experience the restaurants and see which ones you want to try out on your own!

Our friends, my wife & I decided that this tour sounded fun & a good thing to do on a sunny fall afternoon so we signed up. We met our tour guide, Fred, at a hotel & restaurant in Vail Village. We started the tour at this restaurant & our first food was an appetizer, tuna poke salad. It was very fresh & tasty for those of us that like tuna. We also had a glass of prosecco that was light & refreshing. NOTE: The tour requests whether there are any foods that the participants do not eat, but I did not do so Fred had to scramble a couple of time to accommodate our wive's tastes, but he did a good job by calling the other stops & updating them. As we walked through the tour, Fred gave us a history lesson on the founding of Vail & the background of those who founded Vail. Our next stop was a restaurant served two tasty skewers with one being a Thai steak & the other a Japanese yakatori(?) chicken skewer. Both were light & tasty. We were also served a white wine to compliment the meats. The next stop was with fried walleye tacos. Very good. We then went to a candy shop & received a sample chocolate that was delicious. Our last stop was an Italian place. We had a gnocchi It,too, was light & tasted very good. Overall, it was a fun time with just the right amount & variety of food. Fred was great. Sure, you can do this yourself, but you would miss the story behind Vail, Fred's interesting story & the fun of meeting other folks on the tour.
