I think this is called Grassy Valley Mining Overlook just outside of Victor. It is neat to see and worth the time to get there. Basicly it is a big hole in the ground.

This overlook is closed to the public but is a stop on the mine tour out of the Victor Lowell Thomas museum.
It is a shame all the mine buildings and apparatus have been moved but the view cannot be beat.

This was a great place to look down on the huge but destructive gold mine operations. We took everyone who visited.

The Cripple Creek & Victor Gold mine has been purchased by a new owner. They have decided that crossing one of their busy haul routes was too dangerous so they permanently closed the access to the over look. Too bad, it was one of the few mines that was mostly intact.

The giant open pit mine closed the Overlook about a year ago. Thankfully we've been there several times before. The mine and structures up on top near the Overlook are inaccessible as well. Have many pictures of my kids playing up there when they were younger.
Disappointing to know that none of us will ever be able to use the Overlook again

The most amazing views in the area were from this overlook. When Newmont Mining came in & bought the mine, they closed it down due to safety issues. it will be missed.

Some super fantastic views of the mountains and the mining areas and rock formations all around the area. Definitely worth a drive through for the views.

I have visited this site multiple times and always enjoy it. The views of the modern mining area are great and the history of this old mining site just oozes out. It's the real deal pretty much as it was abandoned. A great place to ponder the folks that struggled to work the mine. I often wonder if some day they will decide to surface-mine it all away since I assume it covers a significant amount of remaining gold. Hey, I'm no gold miner so what do I know? The only downside is having to wash the car you drive there in. It's up a dirt (dusty) road that crosses active mine haul roads (the big ore trucks to which you look like an ant). Not to worry, just follow the rules given at the checkpoint and enjoy the place.

We tried to visit this when we did the Vindicator Valley Trail in Victor, CO. The Unfortunately, we came to a sign saying the overlook is permanently closed. Other sights in Victor are worthwhile still!!

Very sad to see this iconic site closed by the new owners of the mine! It WAS a great place to see the excavation of the mine - particularly to see the old mine shafts in the wall of the strip mine.

No, the Cripple Creek & Victor is a huge open pit mine. There is an over look that can be accessed by driving around the mine. Tours of the mine do not start until about the end of May. There is a shaft mine above the town of Cripple Creek. It goes down 1,000 feet and is a very safe & interesting tour. It is privately owned and I do not know their hours/dates of operation.
