Harriet Beecher Stowe Cte sits on the same grounds as the Mark Twain’s House & museum. But it is a separate tour. Excellent building and worth a vivid.

Not what I expected

I thought I was going to get a summary of daily life in the house as well as interesting facts about the items in the home. Unfortunately, this tour was mostly discussion with random facts. I also find the messaging a bit extreme and out of place. Just tell the history of the woman and her home. That's what people come to hear.

I also don't recommend "the farm" tour. It's mostly a neighborhood synopsis and given the cast of characters hanging out at the laundromat/liquor store/etc. across the street, you won't be missing much.

Director and staff are condescending and pushing extreme propaganda.

Unless you are wanting an insulting and condescending museum experience, stay away. The tour guides and director are pushing propaganda. Stowe was an intelligent and fascinating person, a century before her time. The museum itself was an educational experience and well done.

Not what we were expecting

We thought we would be walking through on our own. When we asked if there was a guide, we meant a pamphlet type, but were told the person there would be our guide. Then we were sat in this room just waiting, apparently for more people to join although that was not explained, Then we were led on a tour that expects more discussion and back and forth, which we weren't really prepared for. I thought some of the discussion part would have been more appropriate for high school/college students. I did think the guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the discussion, but I do think people should know what's expected before they actually do this.

A visit to the Stowe Center

Very nice house with a lot of original items inside. The tour was small as there were only 4 of us in total so the tour had a more personal touch to it.

Interesting Visit

This was a very thought provoking tour. The only way to see the house is with a guided tour which lasted about 45 minutes.
The house is not very big and is pretty typical of a house built in the mid 1800's. There was of course information about Harriet's life and furniture from the family. The home had been restored as it was when Harriet Beecher Stowe lived there.
What I found interesting in the house was the opportunity for conversation about slavery in the US and how there are conflicting views of Harriet Beecher Stowe's work within the African American community.

Great tour and appreciated having a great discussion as part of the tour. It's not just seeing or hearing the facts--these guides engage you in discussions. It's not political. It's interesting.

The entire campus is beautiful with time to take it all in.

This was a great tour of the house and the life of Harriet Beecher Stowe. Greatly appreciated the small group tour and the interaction during the tour - it added so much to the experience. Highly recommend.

Has the opportunity to be so much more

This small house/museum is meant to be testament to Stowe's life, and I think that it is in some ways, but it has the potential to be much more than it actually is. The tour guide did his best, but a lot of the items in the house were not the actual thing, and a lot of rooms were closed off, so we couldn't actually see much of the house (which was small anyway). I think I would have given this place a higher rating if I hadn't recently been to the nearby Mark Twain House, which is very well-researched and has great tours.
