Has the opportunity to be so much more
2021年11月
This small house/museum is meant to be testament to Stowe's life, and I think that it is in some ways, but it has the potential to be much more than it actually is. The tour guide did his best, but a lot of the items in the house were not the actual thing, and a lot of rooms were closed off, so we couldn't actually see much of the house (which was small anyway). I think I would have given this place a higher rating if I hadn't recently been to the nearby Mark Twain House, which is very well-researched and has great tours.

Discussion format did not work for us
2021年9月
We were expecting a tour, but instead we got a discussion session. This format did not give us the best overview of Stowe's life or work. We came away not really knowing that much about the woman herself. The discussion was philosophical and political and was uncomfortable at times.

Small house with a little tour
2021年8月
Interesting little house that Harriet lived in as her last home. It's a small house, and you don't get to tour the whole thing, so that was disappointing. They talked about the other rooms, but that was almost worse, since we couldn't see them!

Our guide was in his first week of being a guide, so he didn't have a lot of knowledge, unfortunately. He really couldn't answer any of our questions, either.

If you are going for only this museum, i would skip it! But if you want to do it on the same day as you do the Mark Twain house (next door) then it is an interesting addition.

Excellent Tour
2021年7月
We were not expecting much - but we had two great tour guides who gave us a bucket ful of history in a fun and interesting tour. The items in the house - as you'll find out if you go - are mostly of the time when Harriet lived there.

Learned some new things about Stowe
2021年5月
A mixed experience. It was fascinating to be in the house and learn new things about Stowe and the development of her views and her voice as a societal pioneer. The tour was well-paced, and overall, it was a thought-provoking experience. The house, however, is filled with more period-pieces than artifacts, unless our guide was unaware. There were, however, several notable pieces with informative significance. The gift shop is really a modern social justice library, which is fine, but it severely lacks in Stowe-related items. At $20 per person, it is rather expensive compared to other relevant tours in New England. If you have a penchant for Stowe, her work or her impact, you will enjoy this experience. There is also a lot of good literature about her life without the tour.

Terrible and Very Disappointing
2019年9月
It is obvious to all that Mrs. Stowe believed in the truth of the Bible, its placement in society as a beacon of truth, and its authority as the word of God. Just read her letter to Frederick Douglas, and you will see. It is equally obvious that she drew her strength and commitment from this sacred text to advocate for the very great and positive social transformation that she did.

How terribly disappointing to then see the arrogance of those who run this home now.

Nothing of the ethos that actually shaped history is meaningfully presented. Rather, in its stead you will find critical race theory, contemporary victimization narratives, and an assorted collection of materials that are 100% secular in their approach.

While the staff is clearly free to disagree with the Biblical sources, it is disgusting to be in a place where the staff exhibit such profound disrespect for the very person whose life they are trying to celebrate.

Tour Guide Rocks
2020年3月
We had the pleasure of visiting the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center on Sunday, March 8th. Our tour guide was Jasmine. She was very knowledgeable about Harriet and the things that were going on in the country. Jasmine was very lively with a smile during her presentation. She made you feel comfortable right from the start. A positive point in her presentation was introducing herself and having us introduce our self and tell her where we were from. SUPER TOUR!

Stowe house
2019年5月
We toured the house with several guides. They knew a lot of back ground about the family. They are revamping the house to what it was It is better to view it in the spring so you can see the flowers.

Spot on!
2019年11月
Like other reviewers mentioned, this is a tour about the pressing issues of the day by a woman who experienced personal loss and a sense of maternal empathy to the people called slaves. It is less about architecture and material possessions yet we tour a beautiful home with a magnolia tree in its backyard. The tour awakens the core beliefs of the tourist in a non-threatening lets have a conversation way. HBS was not a rebel by any means but I do think that the influences of the ministry within her family resulted in her firm belief that Christians do not subjugate others in slavery although she apparently hinted her belief that the races were not equal. While the focus of the tour was on Uncle Tom's Cabin, HBS actually authored 30 books. It was interesting to learn that Uncle Tom's Cabin was published in a newspaper in sections which increased readership thus fanning the flame for abolitionism. It is interesting that a woman, without any voting rights, influenced many citizens to do what was right for human rights.
