While our plans prevented us for walking the park, I did get to see the park as we drove from lunch to the Capitol. The importance of this park to green space in the US is significant as the first publicly designed park. Have to leave something to come back for.

I was in downtown Hartford for a business meeting. After the meeting finished, I went for a walk outside as the weather was nice. I happened upon this pretty place: there are sculptures, ponds, stone structures, and a large stone archway at one entrance to the park. When I was there, mid-day during the week, the area was not crowded.

Bushnell Park has lots of things to do. The park has a bandshell, a pond, a playground, walking paths, and a carousel. There should be picnic tables in the park.

Beautiful park for views, seeing the downtown skyline, the Capitol and many historic buildings. Not m crowded when I was there but it was a week day. I say parking in areas around the park and great sidewalks, clean. I felt very safe waking by myself in early morning and after peak work hours.

This was a very pleasant surprise right in the middle of the city. It's fairly large and is right in front of the Capitol building. Enter through the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch. There's a central fountain with the famous Hartford stag on top and loads of paths leading through the lawns and gardens. Also a beautifully painted carousel, although it was all closed up, with a small lake behind it. There was a Jazz concert in the park while we were there, which made a nice soundtrack to our peaceful stroll around the park. Definitely worth a visit.

Bushnell Park touts itself as the first public park in America. It's a nice green space in the heart of Hartford, overlooked by the Capitol building. There are paved paths throughout that you can traverse in less than an hour. It was well-kept with minimal litter and seemed safer than I expected. Highlights include the massive World War I memorial arch and a fountain with a stag that you'll recognize from insurance advertising!

Nice place to walk around. It was a little too hot for comfort on the day we were there, but we still enjoyed it. Great views of the capitol.

We frequent the wonderful Bushnell Park quite often during the summer to attend the Monday evening Paul Brown Jazz Series. The park is always clean, safe, and well attended by a diverse crowd of Jazz lovers of all ages. Nice to see the beautiful fountain at the edge of the park operational this year. The Hartford skyline and state capital dome add a wonderful backdrop at the rear of the park.

Besides being a very pretty park, there is so much history here. Starting with the information about the design and establishment of the park to the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch with all the statues and tidbits around that to the discovery that the original park had a river running through it! where did it go? It was big enough to take a bit to walk and see everything, but not so big that you're exhausted at the end. Nice area around the carousel for the young at heart. The views of downtown Hartford are nice with some historic buildings across the street.

Within Bushnell Park, is the late 1800's memorial honoring those who served in the Civil War (4,000 Hartford citizens and the 40 who died for the union).
Made of brownstone from Portland, CT, this gothic monument is worth checking out close up. Be sure to read the bronze plaque under the freed slave which honors over 100+ African American residents who fought for the union. Unfortunately inside arch tours are not being scheduled due to the pandemic.
