There are lots of interesting restaurants, shops & Yale museums along this street; which is a short walk from either of New Haven's train stations. Most of the shop spaces are open for business; there are only a few "For Rent" empty storefronts which otherwise make a shopping district gloomy.

Chapel Street는 예일대학교의 중심에 있는 거리로 멋진 건물들로 둘러싸여있습니다. 특히 높은 시계탑은 여기 건물들의 중심이라고 할 수 있습니다

Chapel Street which hugs the Yale Campus is slowly getting better every year I visit New Haven, CT. When I lived here back in the late 80's the area had been slowly gentrifying but a bad economy and crime did not help it in the early 90's.

Now it is getting gentrified almost up to the Yale Bowl with a lot of the houses around the stadium are a lot nicer. It is still sketchy between the park and about Dwight Street but the homes in between the campus and the park are really beautiful. Large Victorian homes with wide yards. If some one was to buy them and fix them up this would be some neighborhood.

The area below Dwight Street though is filled with restaurants, bookstores, coffee shops, clothing stores and art galleries and is getting much better. The City has done a nice job fixing up this area and more people than ever are living downtown and there is a nice nightlife in the downtown area. It is changing every year and improving.

Take time out to walk Chapel Street and the side streets and explore the shops and restaurants. It is not just for the students anymore.

Vale a pena conhecer essa rua tão movimentada no coração da parte antiga do Campus. O tour guiado pelo campus antigo inclui essa atração turística. Nessa rua está localizada a Galeria de artes de Yale que vale muito a pena conhecer!

This store is AWESOME now because Lydia and Mo work there. They are always friendly and helpful. This dynamic duo truly cares.

I’ve worked on the corner of chapel street for 2+ years, but I’ll try to limit my review to how a tourist would see it. Around the Yale art gallery, very nice with interesting shops and some great restaurants. But once you get close to the green it’s a lot of people down on their luck or doing drugs. Nothing worth seeing beyond Temple Street.

Yale tried to turn downtown Chapel Street into a destination place. It is now sort of. There are lots of shops and restaurants that attract Yale students, professors, parents, middle and upper class locals. The shops and restaurants are wonderful and delicious. Good strolling. Not much for others without means, except in lower Chapel where the Dollar Store can be found.

I really have to wonder how "Chapel Street" becomes a place to write a review about because, after all, it's a street, not a restaurant or museum, etc..., and it's one of the longest streets in all of New Haven, extending a few miles I'd guess. So what does it mean?

My only guess is that what is referred to here as simply "Chapel Street" is meant to represent a few blocks of downtown New Haven that abuts Yale University.

In recent years Yale has acted more like a real estate developer than an institution of higher learning in New Haven. Yale has aggressively purchased many of the properties along Chapel Street from Temple Street to York Street (three blocks) in an effort to redefine a portion of the downtown business district. In fact they call these three blocks "The Shops At Yale." At Yale? Excuse me but this is downtown New Haven. The result has been gentrification, upscale shopping, higher rents and local merchants who have been forced out of business. I'm not saying it's all bad but it is a lot of high priced hype.

This cosy little restaurant serving typical North Indian fare is excellent in its ambience along side chapel Street. The interiors are equally appealing to the eye, with a bar sering good wines and spirits.

The starters were Aloo Tikki and Paneer pakoras. Very crisply coated with well-mashed potatoes and green peas whereas the delicately smooth paneer pakoras were very filling with enough servings for four, accompanied by sweet sauce and Mint chutney. The main dish for us was Chicken tikka curry and vegetable paneer Tikkas to be taken with rice. The imported Indian brewed Taj Mahal Beer served chill was a good accompaniment to wash down. Service was prompt & polite by middle-aged personnel. To get such good fare in faraway New Haven was reminiscent of Connaught Place in New Delhi. Surprisingly, the charges were modest , a far cry, as compared to the ones in New York.
This restaurant will certainly be a boon to the Yale University nearby for all the Indian students and faculty members.
We recommend this place strongly for any one in New Haven and all those visiting.
