Great place for a fall Sunday afternoon hike. Take the dog, your kids (get them off the couch or iPhone) and get outside!

Great selection of trails and difficulty. Typically secluded and very quiet, and also a good option for mountain biking and trail running.

I lead a hiking group as an exercise outing where I work and Huntington Park was recommended.
This is a beautiful place to hike, ride a bike both on a flat dirt road or through the woods, you can enjoy boating ( kayaking or rowing) and some good fishing.
While we were there we were greeted by people walking their dogs and even riding their horses through. This is a beautiful place and I plan on going back as soon as my new folding bike arrives.
The pictures show nice relaxing ponds to fish.

This is one of the bigger parks in the area. I mainly go there to Mountain bike and it is one of the best options for riding in Fairfield County. Typical NE trails, a bit of up/down and LOTS of rocks and roots, and poor trail markings/signage (so try to snap a shot of the map on your phone before you go out. Oddly the only map I can find in the park isn't in either of the parking lots I frequent, but up at the head of one of the ponds). This park doesn't seem to get too busy on the weekends, so it's easy to find peace and quiet. All the trails are mostly under shade, so it also stays cooler in the summer, although it can get buggy and there is some poison ivy out there, so keep your eyes peeled.
Lots of options for hiking/ trail running, dog walking, and even kayaking/fishing on the ponds.
A real gem in the area.

We love this park. It has a lot of interesting trails, boulders, mysterious stone building remnants, lakes (ponds?), and beautiful mountain laurel bushes in the late spring. We go walking and hiking there with our two young children. My son’s BSA troop has done bike adventures there. The terrain isn’t very challenging, so all ages would like the park. We sometimes take a picnic (food from Newtown General Store) and sit on enormous glacial erratic boulders warming in the sun. There are usually horses and lots of dogs there, so be mindful.

Primarily agricultural land until late 1800's, later dedicated as a 1,000 acre state park of fields, dense woodlands, ledge, and several ponds.

There are trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. The Aspetuck Valley Trail connects with the Centennial Watershed State Forest. Their website says addition to hiking activities include canoeing, fishing and bow hunting deer in the fall. There are various levels of terrain some challenging, others easy with rocks, roots and some water. Folks trailer their horses in and ride the trails. Parking available, no entry fee.

Encampments remain from 1778 when the Patriot soldiers spent the winter here. The conditions they lived in are evident and harsh. Bronze statue of General Putnam on his horse created by Anna Hyatt Huntington is standing at the entrance to the park.. Visit the Information building and take a guided tour.

My mother, sister, dog, and I went on a hike here. We were very impressed by the well groomed trails and will definitely go again! There are miles and miles of trails to explore with several lakes and ponds, any age or ability can enjoy! You can print out a map online beforehand and used it to plan out a loop, or just explore and make it up as you go along. When I was there, i didn't see any maps at the entrance, so make sure to bring one with you if you want one.

Great for a walk, hike, kayak or trail run but really shines in the single track. Many trails of all levels. No freeride stuff but lots of rock gardens and some good flowey lines. Some good climbing as well.
