Definitely avoid the Talcott Mountain Collective for food and drink. The music is much too loud and I would not recommend this venue to anyone. It's quite unfortunate that such a nice country setting is now being wasted on a place with booming and annoying noise some call music. The place totally lacks class . Everything else about this area is wonderful..

Very Nice View But Steep and Rocky Climb to See the Lower Valley and Heublin Tower

My husband and I hiked the Heublein Tower Trail at Talcott Mountain State Park on Thursday, November 5, 2020. We parked in the parking area on Summit Road in Simsbury, Connecticut. Note that there is an out-of-state parking fee during the in season months through October

Going up the trail to see the view of the valley was a bit steep and rocky. However, the view at the top was beautiful, even though the peak fall season was over. There were plenty of opportunities to take some nice pictures of the valley as well as the unique and historical Heublein Tower once we reached it on the trail.

It was a nice day in November and there were several people on the trail but still plenty of room to social distance. Once we got to the top of the trail, where we could see a nice view of the valley, there still was a long way to walk to get to the Heublein Tower. However, it was worth completing the walk to see Heublein Tower, which was closed but quite nice to photograph.

The trail is a little over 1.25 miles to the Tower (actually 1.32 miles from what we measured) but it seemed real long, probably because of the steep and rocky areas. It took more time than expected to go down the mountain because of the rocky areas. You definitely need to wear hiking boots or shoes with heavy soles to hike up to the tower from the parking area and back down to the parking area.

We recommend a visit to Heublein Tower but be prepared for steep and rocky sections of trail to get to it. It is not an easy trail to hike from our perspective.

Nice views and great hike...

Took the Hueblein Tower trail. Start of the trail is steep and then rest mostly flat. Nice views of the valley once your cross the steep part. The Heublein tower constructed in 1914 is a nice setting atop the mountain. Great place to hike and relax.

Great hike in a beautiful area

Well marked trails and plenty of great hiking. It was fairly crowded but the trails are wide enough that everyone can pass freely and maintain distance. Was perfect for some time out in nature.

Beautiful park

Talcott Mountain is a beautiful state park in Connecticut. Do some of the hikes and trails to the top and you are afforded with some beautiful views.

Went to get dinner fresh air during the Covid 19 pandemic. It was our first time there and we didn't pay too much attention to the color of trails, but we went up the trail near the helicopter (Lifestar) pad. Yes I said Lifestar... we'r new the trail had potential to be dangerous when we saw that. As we went through the trails we realized it wasn't the trails but the cliffs if you went to close. The scenery is beautiful at the top. The tower was closed but we still had a great time.

A nice refreshing short hike

We went here on a sunny 40s to 50 degree day in March to get some air and exercise. It was really nice and a decent hike. The bottom 1/2 of the hike on the "easy" trail was still pretty strenuous but it's fun and worth the view up top.

Variety of Hiking Options with Great Views

Talcott Mountain offers a variety of different hiking trails, many of which lead to the top and the Heublein Tower. This park is wonderful during the fall, as it offers foliage during the hike. The main and shortest trail to the top is moderate: the initial 10-15 minutes of the hike are decently steep and will get your blood pumping but after that it levels off and becomes a much easier hike. In addition to the tower, at the top there are a bunch of picnic tables so you can pack a lunch/snacks and eat them at the top with a great view. I definitely recommend this place to bring family and anyone visiting! Well worth the effort for the views.

Great Hike Straight Up a Mountain

Talcott Hiking Trail. I took my german shepherd here and had no idea what I was getting into. Parking is designated on Summit Ridge Road.
The forest is beautiful. However, my ankles were not prepared for this vertical incline. Luckily, there are benches on the way but none the less, steep.
The top is well worth it. I walked to Reservoir 6 in West Hartford. If you want a real good workout, go explore this area. Its impeccably kept & not too dense. The trails are very well marked, which is refreshing.
