Ein toller großer Erholungspark. Man kann stundenlang spazieren gehen, es werden Routen vorgegeben, die gut gekennzeichnet sind. Es gibt auch eine Strecke für Radfahrer. Man kann an mehreren Seen vorbei gehen, durch den Wald oder eine asphaltierte Strecke. An den Wochenenden sind viele Menschen unterwegs aber es lohnt sich trotzdem. Hunde müssen die ganze Zeit an der Leine bleiben.

Amazing scencery, hiking, biking and walking trails. Well maintained & it’s sometimes hard to believe it’s in West Hartford! We have seen plenty of wildlife in here too which a cool—Bald Eagles & Red Tailed hawks; Bear; Bobcat; Ducks; coyotes; Lots of deer; and friendly dogs and people!

This reservoir is an easy, pretty place to go for a walk and enjoy the scenery. It's nice year-round, so in the autumn it's a great place to look at the changing leaves. There are several reservoirs to choose from, and trails of varying difficulty levels, so you can choose how strenuous you want your walk to be. The trails are 3-4 miles long; it took us about 90 minutes to walk around the entire trail. There's enough space for physical distancing, and there's also a paved bicycle trail. Parking is limited and can get full pretty quickly. Dragon Rock (also known as Split Rock) is really cool.

I have walked this trail consistently for over a year. It is simply beautiful in any season. If you take the red trail to the left, you will face the largest hills first and then gently slope down most of the way (except for another larger hill). If you take the red trail to the right, you will be facing the bicyclists, but you will gradually incline up, ending with the larger hill down.
It is easy to socially distance here. The parking is limited. On a pleasant weather weekend, the parking lot is generally full by 9 or 9:30 am.

On an unseasonably warm sunny afternoon in March, we took a very nice stroll around the reservoir. The sun reflected off the water, the woods, it was very enjoyable. The trail is about 3 1/2 to 4 miles around. You can connect to the Matabasset trail up to Talcott Mountain.
It is a very level, easy walk (unless you head up to Talcott Mountain).
We started at the south end and walked around the west side first. I would suggest going the other way, as we had the sun in our eyes and the wind in our faces coming back around the east side

I enjoyed the red trail immensely because it was paved, well marked, and led me through beautiful trees and reservoirs. This trail also had a marked bicycle lane. I highly recommend this trail for all levels of mobility.

Very pretty for a fall hike. Docents were at top in the castle to answer questions I found it to be an easy hike up. Someone with physical challenges may find it difficult as the trail inclines in places but there are hiking sticks left at the parking area that you could use.

This is an awesome paved path for running or walking. There are two main loops, the larger of which is about 3.5 miles. Beautiful scenery in all seasons!

For all the information needed, go on-line and look at Reservoirs/The Metropolitan District. It provides maps for #4 with public entrance from Farmington Ave., #6 public entrance from Albany Ave., Rte. 44. There is more information about the MDC land and water ways to explore.

It is usually open to sunset. But I would recommend checking by going to website for the Connecticut Metropolitan water district. This site gives trail maps and phone number you can call.

Which is the trail that goes around the reservoir?? Went for first time today and started walking red path---did not want to go all the way--and doubled back....then started yellow one. To me it is confusing and there were no maps or where each trail begins (and how long it is) anywhere. Am I missing something??

I agree..there should be some maps! I stay on the bike marked trail. It took me completely around. I can.t say how long it took because we stopped at the picnic tables by the reservoir and had a picnic lunch.

Yes, helmets are required for bikers, skateboarders, etc. just checked the Reservoir website.
