Came to view Christmas decorations; will be back in May for the gardens in bloom! This incredibe DuPont family mansion was gorgeous, extremely well maintained and a must-see historical site for anyone visiting northern Delaware or the greater Philadelphia / Wilmington region. The daily pass provides access to the mansion, the gardens and the Chauffers' garage, which houses several Rolls Royce cars and other family vehicles. Don't miss the gift shop, housed in a separate building that served as the mansion's laundry. Very knowledgeable and friendly docents provide an intimate look into the lives of the DuPont family members.

The Nemours Estate was a wonderful experience both inside the mansion and and walking the grounds despite the cold weather. The volunteers inside the mansion could not have been any more enthusiastic about sharing the history of the Dupont family and the mansion. Very informative and kind

There is nothing negative about this experience. The estate is breathtaking. I appreciated that the house is self-guided but has an expert in every room for questions/information. This was much for enjoyable than a guided tour. We were there on the day after Thanksgiving and it was all decorated for the holidays and was stunning. I'd love to go back in the summer. I also appreciate the staff being mindful of accessibility. Once they noticed I was with my older parents, many guided us to chairs when they can sit and how to use the elevator. At the end of the tour in the chauffeur house, we requested a golf cart to take us back to the entrance. This was a great addition to our experience!

This estate is even nicer and more interesting than Winterthur, which gets more attention. The grounds are spectacular and remind me of Versailles. The inside has a self-guided tour and blew me away. Be sure to visit the basement, a lot of interesting and unusual things are there (the office, pool room, mechanical room, etc.)

My husband and I toured Nemours and it is exceptional! It was built by one of the DuPonts for his second wife and looks like a gorgeous French chateau located in the midst of beautiful gardens. You tour the house on your own with people stationed in the rooms to tell you the history. Each room is more beautiful than the last! Don’t miss it if you are in the area!

I was followed around and profiled whole old white women treated me as if my money or excitement to learn about the mansion was under appreciated.

The house, staff and grounds were wonderful. We really enjoyed our visit and I appreciated that they provided a shuttle for me to and from the house and an elevator inside of the house since I am 80+ years old. The people inside of the house provided great additional insight into what we were seeing which was also appreciated. I HIGHLY recommend a visit to this site.

Spent several enjoyable hours at the Nemours Estate, another gem I was unaware of. We recently watched a video on Gilded Age mansions and it was featured. I love me a mansion and landscaped grounds and this did not disappoint. It’s self guided, but the docents are friendly and enthusiastic. It feels accessible in a way many of these places don’t- the rooms are veritable time capsules and you can wander through them, rather than only peer in. Highly recommend!!

On a Friday morning I visited Nemours. It was a sunny fall/autumn day and the garden looked stunning.
I took the bus tour around the grounds and it was so interesting to hear the driver talk on the points of interest.
The mansion was quite an experience. In one way very much in a European style, and yet the American mods cons (20th century style) were much in evidence too. At every corner was a friendly, knowledgeable guide who could relate the history to you.
The gift shop is quirky and certainly worth a look. Managed to find a nice present there.

This place was spectacular - grounds and the mansion. Discovered this hidden gem via Fodor's - otherwise, all one hears about is Winterthur. Docents were extremely knowledgeable, yet friendly/engaging. (We had different experience at Winterthur where some of the docents can be 'high brow' and condescending). Make sure you include Nemours on your travels to the Wilmington area!

Apologies for the delayed reply, Clare! Yes, visitors are always welcome to bring picnic lunches to Nemours Estate. Picnic tables are available, or you may bring a blanket to spread on the grass. We are currently closed for holidays decorating, but re-open on November 19th for the holiday season.

Photography and videography are permitted in the Mansion and Gardens for guests to document their visit. Full photo policy is below:
All photography is at the discretion of Nemours Estate. All guests must pay admission to enter. Professional style shoots are permitted ONLY in the Gardens (not in the Mansion). ONLY cameras and tripods are allowed. Photo shoots must be respectful of other guests. Guests should not use restrooms for wardrobe changes.

Hello, we do require masks inside the Mansion, Chauffeur’s Garage, and restrooms. Masks are only required outdoors when in close proximity to other guests or our staff.

Hello we open tomorrow (May 1st) and offer guided highlight tours throughout the day at 11, 1, 2, 3. These max out at 12 people and are on a first come first served basis.
