So Impressive in So Many Ways!

Such an impressive place to visit and learn! The staff and volunteers were very approachable and eager to share their knowledge. The exhibits were set up very thoughtfully with the ability for anyone to see what was going on. Well done and thank you!

Nice free nature center, lots of fish to observe

Nice free nature center with many tanks to look at.
When we visited, there were two sea turtles, plus all the fish/stingrays/seahorses in multiple tanks.
We could also see baby turtles being taken care of, very cute.
We visited the butterfly garden and the chiki hut but it was too hot to walk the boardwalk.

Workers are so knowledgeable
I loved it all mostly the turtles,the boardwalk walk was a great experience, A must go see.it is free to go but to help all the animals it would be so appreciated to donate.

There is always something to see, not just turtles!

There is always something new to see, not just turtles! There are recovering turtles with volunteers always available to give additional information. There are also HUGE tanks that contain local sea life - including an adult barracuda, moray eel, sting rays and huge variety of fish. You can also walk on an elevated boardwalk through a mangrove forest which is fully shaded & a butterfly garden. Parking can be an issue, but there is a public lot just south that is connected to the facility by the elevated boardwalk through the mangroves.

Turtle haven

Amazing sanctuary for injured turtles and fish. Very knowledgeable older guides and young learners, all so devoted. Lovely trails along inland waterway.

Lovely two hour visit to a wonderful and caring environment

Wonderful learning opportunity in a very relaxed and friendly environment, lots of extremely useful information with regards to the species and the sea, going awareness of the subject matter diluted appropriately for younger kids
Staff all extremely approachable and super caring and friendly

Educational visit to Gumbo Limbo

My lady & I visited Gumbo Limbo while on vacation in Florida. Gumbo is a marine research and rehabilitation education center. They reacue sea life, in particular sea turtles, and offer conservation education.

We found the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Being from New England, we learned a lot about the sea life in Florida.

Gumbo Limbo is free. Well worth the visit. Parking is at a premium. We had to drive down to payed parking and walk back....but again, the venue was free and very educational. Great for families, school groups, and tourists.

Took my dad to see the turtles and fish

We were looking for something to do with my 87 year old dad. He enjoyed hearing about the turtles that were bei rescued and the different fish. The staff was very informative and friendly.

Hidden gem

The state helps fund this research facility along with donations. There is no cost to access the centre although a donation is welcome. Staff were incredibly knowledgeable about their respective areas. Highly recommend planning your visit around the turtle keeper’s talk. Very informative.

Parking is limited so you can park at the golf course next door for a small fee and walk a very nice trail to get to the centre.

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center- a wonderful and educational visit!

Impressive environment center committed to educating the public about the ecosystems in the barrier islands. They have knowledgeable volunteers and staff that are passionate about working at this sea turtle rehabilitation facility. We were able to see rescued turtles that they are treating to hopefully return to the wild. We saw a sea turtle that was restricted from swimming because of tumors on one of its front flippers. They will laser off the tumor and will observe the turtle to see if it will eventually be able to teturn to the wild. They also have 4 different ecosystems that you can observe. My one suggestion is to have a list of all the fish posted outside the tanks. Have their pictures and names so u do not have to ask the volunteer to consistently open the book. The volunteers are wonderful!
They have a butterfly garden but we were not there during the migration . There are trails and opportunities to attend the daily aquarium feeding, turtle talks at 2:00. We did see very cool crabs
