Well kept State Park with friendly staff. This park offers camping with a bath house, with water and electricity as well as a dump station. Make sure you tour the Gregory House since it was built pre-Civil War. Items in the house are period pieces.

This was a big disappointment. Went to see the Torreya trees but were hard to find' It has a nice house you can tour. It has a nice vista since it must be on the only high spot in Fl. The trail to the bottom is steep not for everyone to hike.

After reading all the web information, and the Park site that said (on Nov. 3) the first 2 weeks of November the colors would be at their peak, we drove out there 300 miles on the 7th to see the leaves. Getting there I realized we were at least two weeks early, so a big disappointment.

So if you are looking for fall colors, find a person you can call, rather than depend on their web site.

Beautiful State Park with a rare elevation considering it is in Florida. The views from the observation decks are breathtaking. The campground is well kept, the showers and bathrooms are sparkling clean, and a CCC barracks is the campground office.
A must see is the Gregory House which was almost in ruins but was saved and restored.

Bristol and Blountstown are not that far away. AND Ochesee has a wonderful dairy farm which makes ice cream!!!

The house was nice to see . Seeing the the Confederate gun pits was a joke . Nothing really there to see. As far as seeing the Torreya trees which are rare if you don't have a ranger to show you one you won't find it.

The Gregory House is located just above the Apalachicola River (and the time zone line!) There is a wonderful tour of the House at 1pm Eastern time. Just be aware that your cell phone might be picking up the time from the closest cell tower, which is just west of the river, putting it in the Central Time Zone! You don"t want to miss the tour!

We just got back from a 2 night stay in one of the yurts. The Yurt is AWESOME. Twin over full bunk bed for the 2 kiddos and a queen bed for me and my wife. The AC was very much appreciated but surprisingly it stayed very cool for June. We took some time to hike the trails a bit and saw some bunnies, lots of birds, and a few grasshoppers. No copperheads to my son's disappointment. Although they are common in the area, they like to keep to themselves. I am sure they saw us...and definitely heard the kids. The facilities were very clean. Hot showers were a treat after hiking and spending time exploring the park. Wakulla Springs is 50 miles away and is a must visit. The spring is very refreshing on a hot summer day and the boat tour is amazing. We actually saw three manatees which we were told is very uncommon for June. We also saw plenty of local wildlife on the tour...gators, water birds, osprey, heron, and lots of turtles. This is the perfect off the beaten path place that has so much surrounding it to do. We will be going back!

My family and I stayed here for 6 days while visiting from Georgia. Our ages range from 6 months to 16 years old. We also have 2 dogs and 1 cat. I would absolutely visit again. There was 1 con that they have sewer hook ups but they do have a dump station on the way in and out. Shower houses, bathrooms, laundry, ranger house, and overlook with picnic tables. All up to date and very clean. The lots are small but each side is covered by brushes and it was no big deal for us in a 32ft camper with 1 slide. I was expecting more local activities like fishing or swimming but you have to drive for those and go outside of the park. It stays quiet so being outside is so peaceful. We will certainly return when visiting the Emerald coast.

Spent 5 nights in site #17 which is adjacent to the lovely overlook. It is not shaded so we were grateful for our canopy. Weather was great except for one day where we got really lucky and got off lightly compared to the forecast. Good - 1. bathrooms well maintained. The hosts were present and busy - even stopped to see if everything was ok. 2. Beautiful site up on high bluffs. Not so good - 1. the layout of #17 is odd. The hookups are at the back of the site not the side so all our cords & hoses were spread across camp. 2. Soooo many ant beds. Afraid to walk around our site past dusk. 3. It’s a small campground with one small loop so bike riding (unless you have mountain bikes) gets boring! 4. Tours of the house were all closed. Due to Covid I’m sure but it seems they could start to gradually open up. So trails were the only activity. Overall we’re on the fence about a return trip.

Had a great 3-night visit, though tge weather reduced our usual hiking mileage. After an exhaustive effort last summer, all trails have been cleared of hurricane Michael debris, but it will take time for the park to fully recover. Tree damage was extensive, but you can still find some untouched areas out along the trails, such as one trail that takes you down to visit one of Florida's "massive" waterfalls. (Just smile and don't expect a lot when you say waterfall in Florida...)

The campground was in great shape and the facilities were very clean. Staff was always available and friendly. The registration office is set up in a former CCC building that had a few hiatoric/nature displays.

The only thing we missed was that the Gregory House, a historic house overlooking the Apalachicola River, is currently closed. Would have liked a tour to get more of its background. The short hiking trail by the Gregory House has a few informational signs on the area and its role in defending the river during the Civil War.

Summary: Very good facilities and trails.
