Interesante experiencia

Interesting day

Great day even with closed exhibits from Covid and many things closed fro remodeling. We spent 5 hours learning and enjoying the exhibits. The actual flight take off simulator was amazing! Mars here we come.

Adorei o passeio a NASA. Muita coisa interessante para ver. Passa-se o dia inteiro e não se observa tudo.

Great Museum! Space and Cape History, Early Space Programs, etc.
2020年1月
Great museum, features early space and cape history that you don't see much of at KSC, wonderful, very knowledgeable staff that love what they do (mostly volunteer) and great gift shop. Not the flashy experience KSC is of course, more quiet and very informative, our boys loved it too, esp. talking with the guides who knew all the backstories to all the exhibits. Look forward to going back!

Good little free space museum; astronaut docent
2020年1月
We stayed in Cocoa Beach for the month of January and found the Sands Space History museum while doing a search for things to do for free in the area. This is located just outside the gate of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and is in the same parking lot as the SpaceX Launch and Landing Control Center. There is a more in-depth tour for a charge through the Kennedy Space Center that goes into the base. There were 3 rocket launches in January 2020 and this is also a great area to view launches for free. This museum is only a couple of rooms consisting of great photos and memorabilia with the history and timeline of NASA launches, launch pads, astronauts and the different rockets used. There are a few engines and nose cones. There is also a small gift shop. The best part for us was talking with the docent. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and gave a very humble answer when asked if he had a history with the USAF or the space program. He told us his name was Al Crews and that he was in the Air Force at a bad time following the assassination of Kennedy and the Vietnam War... and pretty much left it at that. While walking around checking everything out, I decided to google that name and I was blown away at everything that came up. It named Al Crews as a retired Colonel; a USAF test pilot; chemical and aeronautical engineer and a USAF ASTRONAUT!! He was a young 91 years of age and was one of the first astronauts to be chosen for the X-20 Dyna-Soar program. Unfortunately, with the assassination and the war, this program was halted. What an amazing story!! I had to go back and get a picture with this true and humble American hero. This is part of what keeps us coming back to the Cocoa Beach area. It has an amazing history and is also leading the way into the future for the American Space Program.
