I would rate this experience even higher if I could. Captain Scott and First Mate Ronnie exceeded our expectations and over delivered on everything. We felt so welcome on their boat. It was perfect for even the intermediate fishers. Our group consisted of two adults, two 18 year old girls, and a 12 year old girl and Ronnie was absolutely awesome with all of us. This was what our daughter wanted for her 18th birthday and it could not have been more perfect. We caught greater amberjack, lesser amberjack, lane snapper, vermillion snapper, speckled hind grouper and even a barracuda. We even watched a barracuda and a shark battle it out for a fish. Captain Scott took us to the best spots and made sure we were on the fish the whole time. Ronnie cleaned all of our fish while we ran to the store to get a bigger ice chest. We had no idea the haul we would bring in! I recommend this trip to anyone!! (Make sure to tip - they earn it!)

On the positive side, it was really nice to be out on the water. The mate, Ronnie was really helpful and did a good job helping us with getting our poles ready and bringing in the fish. Unfortunately, there were a number of negatives. 1) I made my reservation, then got the confirmation a week or two later. The cost of the 4 hour near shore experience was advertised as $550. The confirmation added $25 in credit card fees and made clear the the mate would not be paid unless we provided a 20% tip. If the charter costs $685, please provide that cost up front. 2) the captain smoked cigars the entire trip. It was annoying to be paying extra for the mate, when the Captain surfed on his phone and smoked every time we stopped to fish. 3) the last thing I want on vacation is to talk about COVID or hear the captain’s feelings about the COVID vaccine, but the Captain could not resist talking about it. 4) the captain finally announces that he’s unvaccinated and the tries to shake my too young to be vaccinated kid’s hand as we’re getting off the boat. When the Captain brought up COVID we made it clear that we knew people who had died from COVID and that we take it seriously. I had thought that being outdoors and well ventilated would be fine, but It never occurred to me that the Captain would not be respectful of my kids space.

Fantastic Day! Booked a 10 hour trip and it was awesome. Captain Scott and first mate Ronnie were like old friends. We took our paralyzed son out for a fun trip before he began chemo. Chad was especially complementary of Ronnie.

Really enjoyed our full day charter on the Pipe Dream III. Capt. Scott put us on the fish and Ronnie was awesome as first mate. Highly recommend them, and we will definitely be back for more!

Captain Scott and First Mate Ronnie gave us a great day on the water! Caught monster red drum fish, hooked a nurse shark and a stingray. As a bonus we saw dolphins and sea turtles. The shade on the boat was welcome as it was a hot day!

If you are in the Amelia Island area and are looking for a great off-shore fishing trip look no further. Captain Scott knows the area and will get you on the fish even if its a slow day. The first Mate Ronnie knows how to rig you up to catch the fish and both are really great in explaining the area and fishing techniques.I have been on a lot of charters and sometimes you never know how it will be. No need to worry here you will be more than satisfied. Tight lines!

We went with them last year and liked it so well we went again this year. Captain Scott and Trey are awesome. They did great with both my girls. (Ages 6 and 10) we all enjoyed ourselves very much! Thanks for the great trip!! 😊

Reflecting on our trip today, I can’t give this a 1 star due to the fact that we caught the max amount of allowed Vermilion Snapper and quite a few Trigger fish, but I can’t give this more than 2 stars due to our experience. Captain Scott sends a text confirmation the night before and we were told we would be leaving at 7am. No problem right? Wrong. My party arrived at the dock at 630, but the 3 random guys that we were paired with for fishing never showed. We were told we would wait until 8am, even though these guys never answered their phone. At 7:45 the other guys finally answered the phone and told Captain Scott they were 45 minutes away. No problem said the captain. Our trip that was supposed to start at 7am finally left at 8:45am. Not fair for those that woke up at 5am to ensure they were on time for the trip, only to get screwed by guys that went out the night before and had a little too much to drink, causing them to sleep through their alarms.
The other issues we had with the trip (other than accommodating individuals for their tardiness with no real apologies to us) was Captain Scott smokes multiple cigars throughout the entire day. Some people may not mind it, but having smoke blowing into your face the whole day isn’t all that enjoyable.
We did a 10-hour fishing trip. It takes approximately 2.5-3 hours to get to and from the fishing spots, which gives you about 5 hours of fishing. It is quite a hike out in the ocean, but he did hit some great spots where we caught a bunch of fish. Once you find a good spot, you stay at that spot.
Overall, not the best fishing trip I have been on when I have been on several trips now. Very disappointed we were not offered a discount of some sort for our delayed departure because of other guys deciding to sleep in. I wish the captain would not have smoked since there was no escaping the smoke wherever you sat on the boat. We caught the fish, but the experience will forever be an unpleasant one.

8/21/2017 This particular charter was arranged by Jared as a birthday gift for his father. In order for Jared to make the 10 hour day, 45-50 mile offshore charter affordable for him he asked that I get 3 other anglers to share the cost. Going the extra mile as a so often do I accommodated his request and located 3 anglers to join him to share the cost. While waiting for the 3 other anglers I did mention that we could leave without them but the trip would only be 6 hours, one they could afford and the fishing action would not be as great. Their reply was to wait so their catching experience would be great and great it was, limiting out as quoted in his review, putting 42 fish in the box and numerous losses. He should have expressed that the cigar smoke bothered him and I would have refrained from smoking as I have on previous charters when asked. Since they did agree that it was no problem waiting for the 3 late anglers and the bite was great and I already post prices that are the best bang for the buck there was no need for a discount.
Apparently the 3 other anglers had a great time as they have already expressed interest in booking another charter.
I sincerely do hope that you feel much better from your motion sickness.

Had a blast today with Scott and Trey! We will be back in late March so save us a date for those big sail fish! Next time, I'll bring my fish whistle and try to wrangle us up some more.

Scott Thompson is THE best fishing guide I've ever fished with. I had to call it a day, before the day was over, because my arms couldn't bring in another fish. We caught vermillion, red fish, red snapper, cobia, amberjack, barracuda and a few smaller fish. Scott and the first mate were friendly, fun, and knew their stuff. And, they cleaned and bagged it all when the trip was over. I can't say enough about how enjoyable this fishing trip was. I (obviously) recommend Pipe Dream Charters very highly.
