Highly recommended for all ages and interests. The tour was indeed educational and fun as the guide provided colorful stories of the various birds including the different facets of their personalities and to their daily care. Pat spent a few minutes with us answering questions on the care and diet of our own Blue & Gold, who has been a part of our family for 40 years.
As life long bird owners we are aware of the commitment it takes to care for a single parrot. The challengers of a project of this size is immense and without the commitment to this labor of love it would not have been possible to achieve what Pat and her staff have completed thus far.

I enjoyed the educational talk given by a well versed staff person. She was knowledgeable of each bird’s personality and how to care for them.
There are several “flights” for some of the birds to fly in. There are so many others that are not allowed to join those populations since they may not get along with other birds well. That leads many of them to be housed in separate cages. They have done a good job to make space for them. They have more room than they may have had in their original home environments. Sadly many lack the human interaction that so many of these birds crave and may have been used to. There was one that I would have loved to have brought home but couldn’t.
It was a fun visit and would recommend them as an educational venue for adults and kids alike. People need to understand that these birds can outlive you so they need long term care!
There is no gift shop or even vending machine for a drink in the 100 degree weather.

Beware of this place. Smooth talk full of unkept promises. We placed our B&G there in 2014. A couple months later we returned to visit and found our bird in a small cage on the FEBS owner's (Patricia) house porch, this was the location before Hudson. Our bird had all of his tail feathers pulled out and Patricia denied that it was our bird and said that the bird was a female. She was wrong on both counts. We had our bird tested by an avian vet before placing at FEBS and he's a male. In addition, the bird without the tail feathers was definitely ours. Over the next three years we'd visit once or twice a year and saw how our bird and others were cared for, or should I say not cared for. Our bird received slightly more attention than others because we were providing a monthly donation. Although that attention and care still wasn't what we had been told he'd receive. I finally removed our bird in January 2018. This place didn't have their birds examined by an avian vet as we were told, and it recycles the bird food throughout the sanctuary which will spread diseases. We saw many/most birds kept in their cell blocks (prison reference) with little to no interaction except for when someone would check their food and water in the morning. Mentioning water, the birds may be given fresh water in the morning, however, by later morning or early afternoon it's soup because that's what birds do. So, during Florida's hot summers the birds have soup to quench their thirsts. I would not place any bird at FEBS and be wary of any promises you're given. This place may have begun with good intentions, but it accepts too many birds, more than it can adequately care for. Someone from FEBS will respond and deny what I've written, but this is our experience and you may make your own decision.

This is not really a place to go to see birds like you would in a zoo. Rather it is a place that take in birds that people can no longer take care of, mostly because the owners have become too old, or that the owners have died. That's what people may not understand; If you retire at age 65 and decide to buy a parrot, you have to remember some birds live 25 to 30 years. all in all, these birds have a great place to love and are cared for. You Can Not buy any of them, and I don't think you can board your bird there.

Most sanctuaries for Exotic Birds leave alot to be desired....Although I havent visited this place by looking a pics seems to be a better place....than most , I have years of raising and hatching exotics although retired I have found most people do not feed the proper diets as each species does require various foods in their diets....I have worked with zoos , raised my own birds for zoos from conures to macaws from Hyacinths to Palm Cockatoos ....even raised parrots for TV shows and commercials....my resume is endless when it comes to parrots....I will make a visit some day to this facilty and hopefully I wont be disappointed ..The average person going to these sanctuaries knows nothing about birds and can be blinded by their beauty , instead of someone like myself can see the enitre picture from Cleanliness to diets to conditions of each bird.
Overall the pics look great, I'm glad and hope this facility is doing most everything right including bird toys for the birds to amuse themselves ....as well as helping to file their beaks and toenails with proper items in the cages....Hope its all good and these birds are ell taken care of~ I will come back to re rate this place for now Im middle of the road....cant rate a 5 yet!

What a wonderful find ! First you need to call ahead to set up a time. Karen was super about getting us a time ! We had our grand daughter and the 3 of us met her at 10:30 AM. She gave us a tour of over 600 exotic birds knowing most of their names and little tricks and sayings they love to do. The birds are well taken care of, very clean aviares, the birds are grouped together by type. These birds have mostly outlived their owners as they can live between 45-150 years old ! We really enjoyed it ! There is no cost for this ,but donations are accepted and all the money goes to a great cause.as you will see first hand !

This is a wonderful place to have. As these poor souls would be lost without it. Plus you can't learn enough about these amazing sweet creatures. Everyone with thier own personality. I wanted to being them all home. They have one that even sings a song "old McDonald had a farm' lol. So many different species. It's a heart warming and heart breaker alike. So many from broken homes makes you feel broken hearted. But also so happy a wonderful place with wonderful people that take the. In love them feed them etc. Unfortunately this place runs on donations alone. Please call make a appointment for a tour and make a donation at the end if you feel the way I did. It's a wonderful be place. With so many different types of parrots,chickens etc.

So much fun to be up close to such beautiful birds. I always kinda wanted a big parrot, but was convinced it was not a good idea. Visiting here, with great tour information from the employees and volunteers, was great fun.

Our visit to the Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary today was a visit to a bird lover’s paradise. It is nicely maintained, and the many varieties of parrots are well cared for in clean spacious environments, with imaginative perches and a concerned level of care. Tour guide Karen was not only interesting and informative, but also closely familiar with each of the birds, who reacted happily as she approached. A definite must for an parrot enthusiast to spend some time.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if they would allow a dog to visit. You should contact them in advance and ask - if your dog is well behaved, they might, but they also have guard dogs on the property so maybe that would influence if a dog could come?

We visited a wild bird sanctuary that was next to the gulf coast beach north of Treasure Island, but well south of Clearwater.
Yet I cannot find it on Trip Advisor.
