Web search for key west boat rental lead to this site. After clicking on boat rentals it lead to a different site. Reserved the shiny new looking 19’ deck boat for the full day. Get a call from a third person which appears to handle all boat rentals in the keys. “The 19’ is not available but we can get you the 21’ for $40 more. It’s at Hurricane Hole marina. Like 9 miles from your hotel. “. Ok that’s fine. Day before rental I get a call. “ the boat you reserved is not available at hurricane hole it’s at Garrison bight marina and it is Closer to you.” Ok. Turns out it’s double the distance from me. The boat is not a shiny new looking boat. The guy checking me out doesn’t even know how to get the radio on. Or how to work the depth finder/chart plotter.
They send me out and say be careful.
Some of the most shallow,coral ridden waters in the world. The depth finder doesn’t work. So no way of knowing the depth in unfamiliar waters. Everything worked out,,,,,,we had a great day on the water,,,,,but for a less experienced boater it could have been bad for crew and environment. Luckily I had my iPad and Navioncs app up and running.

I see there are a lot of bad reviews here but my experience was pretty good. The only thing keeping it from being a full 5 star was that when we rented the boat there was also a small craft advisory out so they canceled all rentals...without calling me. Needless to say I was pretty pissed, but with some convincing we were allowed out. Every one we interacted with was awesome and Mike told us the perfect place to go and gave us a bunch of great tips on how to avoid running aground. When we got back Mike gassed us up and we paid in the office and we were good. My experience wasn't all that bad!

Will try to keep this as short as possible, only focusing on the facts that impacted the experience.
- "Key West Boat Rentals" is a broker, but does not disclose at time of booking. After making a deposit on phone, we were sent to pickup our boat at a place called "Paradise Boat Rentals" at Murray Marine on Stock Island.
- We arrived at Paradise Boat Rentals at 1pm where final payment was charged. Upon which, the owner "Rocky" recommended he guide us through the narrow channels to main water. Very shallow area that surrounded the location.
- When we hit open waters, Rocky waived us through and we were on our way. Around 1:30pm we stopped the boat, put it in neutral for a few minutes, put music on the radio and tried to proceed. This is where the problems began. The boat kept slipping out of gear and would not move forward. We were out of range from cell service and had to flag down another boat to assist.
- The person that stopped to assist said he would go to an area where he could get service and call Paradise/Rocky to come out for our retrieval. Around 2pm, the man returned and confirmed that he spoke with Rocky and they were on their way to get us.
- A mechanic that was on our boat manually engaged the engine and we idled forward at 2 knots. Any faster than idle, and the boat would again slip out of gear and would not move. We started making the slow ride back to the marina. At 5pm (3 HOURS LATER), Rocky finally arrived to swap out boats for us.
- By 5:30pm, we had everything swapped over to the new boat, and we gave Rocky a lesson on how to manually engage the engine. He made it 50 yards before it slipped out of gear again. Although our patience was up for the day, our conscience wouldn't allow us to just leave him out there. The following 45 minutes would be spent towing Rocky until his brother arrived and took over on the "tow boat" role. We were just exiting an area known as "The Lakes" just outside of Key West.
- It was cloudy, windy and the water was very choppy that day, not to mention, we were in a flat bottom deck boat. It was extremely rough to say the least, and we still had to make it back to Murray on Stock Island.
- By 6:45pm we could barely see. We realize at this time, the replacement boat has NO lights and NO navigation device. My wife calls Rocky on his cell, and explained we were about 500 yards from his marina, but needed an assist due to no lights or nav - it was not safe trying to navigate the narrow channels without someone experienced with such area. He begins screaming at her and accusing us of being intoxicated. I get on the phone and he begins cursing "I know what F...n games you are playing", "I'm not coming to help you", "Just wait until you get here and see who you are messing with", etc, etc. I explain to him that 3 of us on the boat, including driver had not taken 1 sip of alcohol that day.
- At this point, due to the situation and the threats from Rocky, we pulled over to a bulk-headed area and called the local authorities. They agreed we should not drive the boat as it was very dangerous to do so without lights. They then helped return the boat and coordinated our vehicle pickup from Murray. At 9:30pm, we were finally returning to our hotel.
- We are now going through the channels of dispute with our credit card company for right at $400 in charges (from both this broker and Paradise rentals)!

What a nightmare . Bait and switch. They do not have inventory. Will show you a picture of a 21' Bow rider with padded seats for $295 and say we are out of boats but will send you to spencers boat yard. They take your credit card and then rent you a center console fishing boat it's nothing like what you asked for. It's a scam they run every day stay away.

Reserved a boat two weeks before our trip for a full day, 8 hours, for $450.00. The boat was a 23"Deck Boat, a newer one really nice I was told. I asked if they had snorkel equipment and fishing rods. The rods and snorkel gear were $10:00 each. I asked for two of each. The date was set, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, my wife and I arrived at the boat yard,not 617 Front St. Key West., about 5 mile north of Duval St.The boat yard own said he spoke to Captain Dave that morning when he called to ask if he had a boat for us, the yard owner told him no. The boats were old and most had ripped seats. Needless to say there was no boat for us. I did get my deposit back that's why it's one. The boat yard does not rent snorkel equipment or fishing rods.If you rent a boat ask if they own the boats and what boat yard they are out of, call the boat yard and verify.

My family and i rented a pontoon and had a great time had a packed lunch and good food and drinks had a blast with the family!

They rented us a boat with no oil. What a nightmare. Had to be towed in by tow boat, paid over three hundred dollar for that. This company said it was not their problem we sign a contract. When did it become a customers responsibility to maintenance the companies boats. They charged our credit card full price for the boat and charged us for gas. They forged our name on the credit card receipt. "This is criminal". We got all this information from the credit card company. BEWARE!!! This company never once called to make right. I would never recommend them.

Basically this operation has been sold to a new group who has no idea about what they are doing. In the past they were run very well by "M". He had a cute dog too. However, the new management is so bad they are actually hurting the concierges in this area. I would never recommend them.
