This is a nice place to visit and learn about the plants and butterflies of this region. They also have a cute treasure hunt game for the kids and the person in the reception was super nice. The ambient is tranquil and a great escape from the heat. Worth the visit. Only $20 for 4 people.

We spent a few hours here and enjoyed the peace and quiet, the Cuban Exhibit was particularly nice. Probably travelled at the wrong time of the year as there were no plants flowering. We saw plenty of Turtles and Lizards but not many birds, again maybe the wrong time of the year.
We enjoyed our time there but found the staff member very offish verging on rude.

Cool little nature walk and amazing Cuban boat display with historical facts. Lizards and iguanas everywhere and turtles in the main pond by entrance. Cool musical instruments that kids would love too.

Beautiful so diverse in everyway, loved the trees all the birds migrated down south so there’s lots of diff types. Pond in the middle. The signs are pretty funny if you read them all

There aren't all that many spots on Key West where one can enjoy some peace and serenity. This is one. It's not the largest botanical garden you'll ever find, but it's nicely laid-out and easy to walk. It offers plants one doesn't see elsewhere (like the Cuban palms. There are also a few picnic tables, so this would be a nice place to bring in some food and have lunch. Exciting? No. It's a botanical garden. So have a nice stroll and relax.

We stopped at this place after seeing signs for it while we were on our way to check out the local college. Our flight didn’t take off until 4 so we had some time to kill. What a nice stop! I spent about an hour in the garden/forest looking at all the plants/turtles/birds. I saw some birds that I had not seen during my visit and some butterflies. There was a lot of red ear slider turtles. There was also little lizards and iguanas. It was $10 for an entrance fee for myself. It was a hot day but the trails are shady. If you have time to stop I would recommend it. It was very enjoyable and relaxing.

We took my 80 year old mother here and she loved it. Great selection of native trees and plants. Boardwalk through most of the grounds which was really helpful with her walker. I would recommend spending about an hour. If you are limited on time I would go here ahead of the Key West Garden Club which is much smaller.

Interesting to visit.
Well laid out and signposted.
However in comparison to other botanical gardens we have visited in the US it is small and lacks diversity of flora. Staff were very helpful and it is easy to get to, we used uber. So it an okay visit.

Although this time of the year wasn’t the best for flowering plants and trees, it still is a very peaceful, pleasant place in a very busy vacation location. If you would like to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is a great place.

I held a welcome party for a family event for 100 guests and this Tropical Forest and Botanical Garden was perfect. To be surrounded in such beautiful, clean, cherished nature was amazing. Misha McRae, who hosted our event, I believe is the director there and his love for his job and the property is unmatched. He gave me a tour when I arrived to go over final details and was so detail oriented and loves every inch of this beautiful paradise. He is so friendly and congenial....his pleasant personality and smile are contagious and he loves sharing the history with visitors and is quite knowledgeable. The night of our event he was there the entire time in the background making sure everything went smoothly. Between Misha, the amazing backdrop of nature, the caterer we selected, Catered Affairs (Martina), and DJ Font from Miami everything was absolutely perfect and guests were blown away with how lovely the event was. I would highly recommend this venue. I have had many events and this was one that was flawless. Thank you to all who helped make this special for my family. A fantastic time was had by all!

I noticed mentioned was a bird trail that has logs and wet areas along with the poison trees along it. My question is can a 6 year handle that trail? Also, what types of wildlife did you see? Is there a place to view alligators and turtles? Trying to decide if this is the better than The Key West wildlife center. Thanks!

I believe you are referring to our Hamic trail. A six-year-old can handle this trail. It is flat but there are many routes crossing the path. There are no alligators in Key West. The wildlife to be seen at the tropical forest is birds butterflies and various lizards. The wildlife center is completely different.

There are 12 trails in the Key West Tropical Forest each one averaging less than 1/10 mile. The paved or boardwalk tours total approximately 1/2 mile. The mulched paths total approximately 1/3 mile. The entire site covers approximately 15 acres which varies from dense forest to open ponds and gardens.
