Real alligators moving along in front of you, lots of beautiful birds, turtles, fish, butterflies, the experience was just amazing. You can do short walks or long ones, you can even find some geo-caches if this is your thing. As a Brit I have to say that this nature reserve its absolutely brilliant - so much nicer seeing nature as it should be.

We went for a birthday trip for my Mom and Daughter. They both loved it,even the grandkids enjoyed themselves. Finally seeing alligators not enclosed was a great experience, even walked beside one that was right off the path.

By far, the most scenic trail experience with amazing wildlife and scenery. We saw multiple gators on Alligator Alley. Some were soaking up the sun on the bank, in the water, and a very large one crossed our path.
According to one of the informational signs, April is courting time for gators. (May is mating, June/July is laying eggs, and August and September is hatching and protecting time.). Extra caution was advised.
As we were walking on a trail near Alligator Alley, we heard this low rumble. Honestly, if you've seen Jurassic Park, then you'll be able to relate the sound you might hear, and although it sounds like a dinosaur, it's an alligator.
We saw numerous birds, beautiful dragonflies, other insects, and a raccoon along the picturesque trails. Live Oaks with draping Spanish Moss made the trail seem magical.
Due to time constraints, we did not complete all of the trails in the reserve and hope to go back some day.

Hiked here many times, always see something new. Saw that old grandaddy gator, saw wild pigs, saw every kind of bird you could ever hope to see.

We took a 2 hour tram ride around the reserve. Our guide Barry was very informative and took pictures of birds over the years and shared them with us. We saw a bald Eagle, alligators and herons. It was relaxing and educational.

I can't sing the praises of this reserve loud enough. It is a must-see for nature lovers visiting central Florida. A former ranch, it boasts a range of wonderful and easily doable hiking trails. Alligator Alley is a good trail with pretty scenery, trees, plants, gators, birds, etc. But do not miss the Treefrog Trail. Not a lot of wildlife but just a gorgeous saunter through massive live oaks, fast becoming one of my fave types of forest to walk through. The Marsh Rabbit Run is also a treat...we saw some MASSIVE gators along this trail, as well as some baby sandhill cranes. In open areas, keep your eyes peeled for wild boars off in the distance. You can see signs of their rooting in many places.

I am a lover of wildlife and I enjoy taking pictures of said wildlife. I am so happy that I found this place while visiting my parents. I was alone, but felt very comfortable walking the trails by myself while enjoying the abundant wildlife. I just wish I had more time to visit this beautiful place.

Wow. This place is a treasure. We saw so many waterfowl along Alligator Alley. I was a bit nervous to walk where alligators live but the 6 we saw were well off the walking path. We spent a couple of hours and didn’t see everything. We will be back.

That’s my understanding.
I have been to this reserve twice - once in March 2018 and once in March 2020. During the first trip, between the lake and Heron Way, I saw an overabundance of wading and other birds from Osprey to various Herons to Roseate Spoonbills to Ibis and more. On Heron way a pair of Sandhill Cranes walked down the path with their little chick in tow. It was amazing.
During my most recent trip however, there were very few birds in comparison but the number of Alligators was far greater. I saw two or three on my first visit but on the last trip they were everywhere. The lake looked like an armada of alligators and they were in the marshes on Heron Way as well. Has the Alligator population there increased that dramatically and has it discouraged the birds from using the reserve to feed? The Alligators have their appeal but in limited numbers. I would hate to see those wonderful birds abandon such a beautiful place because there were too many predators. Any knowledgeable responses are appreciated.

As a snow bird, we have visited for about 10 years. I also agree that the wildlife changes daily, but as we talk with locals from the area, they are also concerned about the lack of large flocks of birds. But, that seems to be happening all over Florida. We visit 4 reserves constantly when we are in Florida and they all have had a shift for fewer birds. Having said that, it seems to be the luck of the draw if you are looking for a particular bird. So frustrating when you know the bird was seen one day, , and the next it does not appear. . Oh, to be able to fly and land where you want to. As amateur photographers we often are up at 4:00 am to get to locations for the first light, , but many times we have been amazed that a particular bird flys in at 1:00 pm. . . So if you are not a morning person, , you may still see that special bird you are looking for, , but you will have to fight the heat. . remember at Circle b Bar there was a lot of damage from the Hurricane several years ago, , we forget that the a Hurricane upsets a lot of habitats including, , HOW do all these little birds survive, or do they, including the larger birds??? It took Circle B Bar years to clean up from that Hurricane. We really enjoy Circle B Bar. I also want to add a comment that the Alligators are really just part of Florida and they too have behaviors that are interesting to us viewers. . Have you ever watched an Alligator eat another Alligator?? we have at Circle B Bar. . I won't ever forget it. . Enjoy all you see and keep the memories forever.

Sorry for the delay. We spent about 3-4 hours there. It was pretty chilly so only birds were out. I think weather should help you with the decision.
Can I hog hunt there

No if you want to hog hunt go to green swamp. Green swamp opens early December. Walk toward the river wind to your face paying close attention to cabbage palms dropping berries. It’s only a matter of time before you run across a sounder.

Is this safe? I would love to get a few photos of alligators in their natural setting, but am a bit wary. What do you do if they charge at you? Thanks.

Not to worry. Yes they can get big but they are not interested in you. I wouldn't jump in the water with them though.
The park consists of causeways or dikes. A gator can get up on the causeway to lay in the sun blocking your way. The park will then close an area when this is a problem.
You can always ride in the guided golf cart.
