This was my Father in laws Christmas present and four of us did the tour. We were team Kevin who was an amazing tour guide and really knowledgeable.
The first part of the tour in the museum is really well done and the second part in the factory is excellent!
We also paid for lunch which was very high quality food and three lovely courses.

Avoid, the roads are used in the area by the workers are like personal race tracks, so avoid roads from 7am and 16.30-17.30
We stayed in the area, and witnessed this disgusting driving many times. speeding passed with no care for any other road user, we were so horrified, we could not bring ourselves to spend money on a tour!

We took part in a tour of the plant towards the end of May 24, and were very disappointed with the whole experience- let me explain what happened.
In the document JCB send out, they state VERY clearly the “conditions” surrounding the tour and emphasise that it's the customers responsibility to adhere to these. I won't quote the whole document, but it refers to a “fully operational factory”, that “it is essential that ALL visitors wear closed toes shoes (i.e. no sandals) and that the tour takes approx 2 hours.
We fixed other things for the day; naturally, we allowed for the tour to overrun a bit – so we allowed 2.5 hours for the tour (i.e. completed by 1200 with a 0930 start).
My first issue is that the factory was “shut down” for the Bank Holiday break – thus we saw an all but empty factory with stationery half completed tractors/diggers – NO production at all. Clearly shut downs of this nature are planned weeks, if not months in advance – thus why schedule tours for that particular day?
Secondly a number of the group arrived late, not 5 or 10 mins late but 25 mins late. Around the 20 min mark, I asked the tour manger how much longer we would be and got the vague answer “we'll just wait a bit longer” My comment “we have other things scheduled didn't get a reply” ! (We took the trouble to make sure we arrived on time, it's not unreasonable to expect the same from other visitors, thus having waited say 10 mins, to start without them). On arrival one lady in this party had open toes sandals on – there was then a further 15 min delay which she was found suitable boots to wear (not just the first pair offered of course, as those were “unsuitable” for her!).
The result of all of this was that the tour finished around 1230, and messed up the rest of our day.
I wrote to the company tours office, no reply, then followed this up with a letter to their CEO.
I eventually received a response from their “Worldwide Events Manager” which includes statements such as “our factory manufactures on a build to order basis which alters daily, and it would be impossible for us to have known (about the shutdown) at the time of your booking in April” (this must seriously annoy their staff – one days notice of compulsory annual holidays).
We received a 50% partial refund, which took a further 2 emails to obtain.
If you are thinking about doing this tour, be aware you may not see any production, and you may be kept waiting for close to an hour, because they appear to wait for anyone, no matter how late.

We arrived at 10 am as group of 6 on Friday morning, with a warm welcome from Jonathon & Lynda. Refreshments were offered and our safety equipment & name tags were provided.
The tour was very interesting, Jonathon was full of knowledge and very informative, and had a good sense of humour! We really appreciated his time and kindness. Lunch was served at 12.30, absolutely delicious - crème brûlée to die for!! a memorable day was had by all! Thank you!

Absolutely fabulous Friday morning tour, the guide, Kate was brilliant, she gave us headsets to wear so that we could hear her telling us all about the history, production line etc etc, we could ask loads of questions ( they split the group into 7-10 people)
We can highly recommend this tour and especially Kate as your guide.

Bought a ticket for me and my dad for Christmas as we love engineering. The tour was brilliant and we loved seeing the manufacturing process up close. But the best bit was the meal afterwards, prepared by a Michelin starred chef, apparently! Really friendly staff, a brilliant tour and a first class meal made for a fantastic day out. Cheers!

We decided to go and see how these huge machines are manufactured. Interesting to know the history of the company. The tour was good, long walk, but with good shoes it didnt feel too bad.
Paid for lunch afterwards (included in the ticket purchase) which was a little disappointing for the cost. The food was nice, but not what was expected. All in all, though, it was a very good experience at this factory.

I went with my husband to do the Monday afternoon tour. Upon arrival you had tea/coffee and biscuits and then we were split into 2 groups of 8 with 2 tour guides. After a health and safety briefing you’re then taken to watch a short programme then taken through the journey of the JCB history. This was really interesting to see how it started and where it’s now become. You can take pictures in this area. After finishing this bit in the shop you then go to the production line. It was great to see the whole start and then of the product. My husband has already recommended this tour to many of his friends as he really enjoyed the tour too

From arrival it felt like you knew it would be good tea and coffee in cups and saucers on entry to the visitor reception. We had a tour guide named Jonathan who was really good and knowledge about jcb was superb. Not going to go into to much details as this would ruin the experience but the whole tour was worth the 3 1/2 hour drive make sure you were comfortable closed shoes lots of walking.
We paid for lunch to be included which was ok but left you hungry definitely go here if you are interested in machinery and British history worth it

I am very interested in visiting the factory tour. Can I just turn up on the day of my choosing or do I have to book a slot in advance.

Before covid you had to pre book a tour. However, like most things tours where suspended in March 2020, so I would suggest that you periodically check on the the jcb uk web site to see if they have been reinstated.

I just want to go to the shop, does anyone know the opening hours please?

There is a shop at the main reception which is normally open Monday to Friday 9-4.

Hello,
When I visited the JCB factory, it was with an organised coach trip run by our local coach company 'Whittles' of Kidderminster.
Sorry that this is probably not much help to you.

For factory tour headphones are provided.I would like to know what type of these headphones are?because through them the tour guide communicates. Are they transreceivers? What are they called?

Would my dad get round in his scooter or would I have to use a wheelchair?

I think that it would be difficult. Although the walkways are flat and well marked out they are quite narrow in places as they go between industrial machinery.
