Dear 339warreng: We are among the most staunch supporters of the 2nd Amendment. It is at the core of what we do as a gun range, gun store, and provider of firearm related training. One thing we hold even higher is the life-safety of our customers and staff, of which both groups include many first responders and US military veterans. As you have correctly pointed out, gun ranges and gun shops are among the few businesses currently allowed to operate given that DHS has named them as an essential services. At the same time, we are limited to the number of people we can have inside the premises per Miami-Dade County mandate. Given the uncertainty of COVID-19, an unprecedented number of people have decided to purchase their first firearm, in order to protect themselves and their loved ones if circumstances worsen. Existing gun owners have also been seeking more ammunition in record numbers, with many sources out of stock. Because we believe so strongly in the 2nd amendment, we have kept our store functioning and serving as many people as possible, especially those who didn’t decide to prepare themselves until the pandemic approached. We made the decision to keep our range closed after serious and careful deliberation, not because we were told to close it by authorities. Our range is interconnected with our store, and to open our range would simply bring the number of people in our facility above what’s mandated by the county, and also well above levels that we feel comfortable with at this time, with so many uncertainties and lives being possibly at risk.
