We really enjoyed Festival of the Lion King, one of the live stage shows at Animal Kingdom. Lion King is held in the Harambe Theatre (Animal Kingdom Africa) that is a circle-in-the-round theatre with four sets of bleacher seating surrounding a center space. The show is over a half hour long (check the showtime schedule).
Festival of the Lion King is not a shortened version of the Broadway musical and does not include the incredible costumes and puppetry of Julie Taymor. Instead, the Festival is a staged as a celebration of the movie's greatest hits such as Circle of Life, Scar's Be Prepared, Hakuna Matata and Can You Feel the Love Tonight.
The show begins with costumed actors, stilt dancers and other performers leading four large floats into the theatre round. It was odd that unlike the actors and dancers dressed in beautiful African inspired costumes, Timon was dressed as a Meet and Greet character. Simba and Pumba were head-bobbing cartoon figures on the large floats and added little to the show.
The actors performing the songs were incredibly talented singers. Each song was accompanied by wonderful acts - there was a team acrobatic performance involving somersaults, handstands on rings and trapeze, a dramatic fire dance and a moving ballet with aerial dancing.
Young children might be disappointed if they expect a retelling of Lion King and seeing young Simba. But with the fire dance, flying acrobats and aerial dancing, this show might wow them as a mini circus.
Seating: The theatre is not large so everyone has a good view of the performance but the best seats are between the warthog and lion sections (sitting in the other sections means facing the back of the fire dancer).
Recommend that you arrive early to get seats. The theatre was packed when we arrived shortly before the noon show (off peak weekday). We were hoping to get any seat so we were pleasantly surprised with a Disney Magical Moment when the usher directed us to empty front row seats reserved for Lightning Lane guests. Thank you :o)

Tremendous show, nearly worth the price of park admission alone. You are right on top of all the action, it is right there at your level, not up on a stage. Wheelchair seating is the best possible, best seats in the house. Seen it several times, and will again in January 2025, and cannot wait. Do not miss while at this park

We are big theater fans! This was a full on production we would have paid to see! It had it all....singing, dancing, acrobatics and more! It was high energy! Bonus, it was a fantastic break from the heat! I liked the length, not too long that you feel you are missing out on the park, but not too short that you feel you wasted your time. Loved the Cast Member energy and audience participation!

Absolutely fabulous. If visiting Animal Kingdom, make sure you make time for this show. It’s spectacular. Lots of acrobatics and stunts, brilliant dancing, great singing and lots of audience interaction. It’s very very musical, peppy and entertaining. Kids and adults both will love it

This show is amazing with talented dinners, ballet dancers spinning in the air, tumblers, gymnastics, fire dancers... worth the time to watch. Especially good to show some culture to children in a fun way

Our family of two adults, an 8 year old and a 6 year old visited Disney World for two weeks holiday in October.
Since the Lion King Broadway show was developed, the quality of Disney shows has been upped. As you can imagine, this show takes a lot of cues from its theatre land production and it's not to be missed.

We have seen this show a number of times before on previous visits. It's still great, we were one of the last groups through the door for the show we watched. This meant out little ones were able to stand up on our row as nobody was behind us and they could move around to see around people and get a good view. The acrobatics and performers were really good. The show is now back to what it was before Covid with lots of entertainment. Really great show, although staff ushering you out of the door to get over the yellow line so they can close the doors isn't great. They need to look and see you can't move forward if there are still groups of people standing in front of you.

I was told this show was much better before covid. I don’t know because I never saw it before. I can only tell you of my experiences. The staff was pushy we were told to sit here then told to move there. The show was nothing like I expected. I was board half way through and couldn’t wait to get our of there.

We have visited before and prefer the old version this was a little drawn out. But understand it's set to return fully soon.
We love this as it is an interactive fun sing along. With fantastic performers. It's great to see kids having a fun time pointing out all the characters and animals.

Estuvimos 2 veces en la fila por más de media hora y prácticamente solo entran los del Fast Pass, realmente muy decepcionante que a Disney no le importe que el 80% de la gente pierda el tiempo en una fila para solo darle lugar a los que pagan un extra

Hola Diana! ... Festival of the Lion King, es un show musical en vivo muy bueno (como todo en Disney), dura media hora aproximadamente y es continuado de 12:00 hasta 18.00 ... todos los días del año ... creo que partió a fines de los años 90 y no tiene fecha de termino aun ... un show 100% recomendable para la familia.

What area is Festival of Lion King Show in AK please. I'm unable to find it , it just says Camp Minnie Mickey but I can't see it on the map. Would like to know the area Oasis, Pandora etc . TIA

About 30 mins but it's worth getting there early if you have children as they always invite a few to participate in the show. If you're sat near the front they have a good chance to get picked.

There is no additional charge for this show, but you must have admission to Disney's Animal Kingdom (Theme Park Tickets) because the theater is inside the park.

No extra tickets to purchase....part of admission into Animal Kingdom. When we went, the shows were every hour in the afternoon. Because we did not have a fast pass, we got in line at 20 mins before the show time. FYI, you can download a WD World app for your smartphone that lists the times of events, waits, restaurants, menus, etc.

Our 15 and 12 year olds loved the show. If your grandkids loved the movie, and they love acrobatics, great music, and jokes, they will like it. Hope you get to see it.
