River Wilderness has both pluses and minuses. The lay-out is great, interesting and challenging, with no holes being the same. The staff is very friendly and helpful -- really nice people. There are multiple tee boxes to accommodate golfers of all levels. The price, especially with the Big Summer Card is a great value. The fairways are in decent shape, as are the tee boxes. The greens were very spotty, play slowly; they were generally disappointing. The "rough" is rough. The sand traps are excellent. There were a lot of staff working on the course. There were many areas marked off for work to be done, both on the greens and in the fairways. This is a course in progress.

Let me start by saying nice staff, nice clubhouse, beautiful patio and great layout. BUT the course conditions were one of the worst I have seen throughout Florida. Tee boxes were small, full of weeds and torn up. Had to tee off outside the box area. I know we need some rain but the greens need a lot of care- weedy, patchy and beat up. Please put some attention to the course now that the patio and dining area are looking good. Can’t recommend this course to anyone we know until something changes.

very disappointing round yesterday. positives -course layout and surroundings interesting and at times quite challenging . pace of play was quite good. finished in under 4 hours. staff friendly and helpful . but , the course is in very poor condition clearly has been very much neglected. fairways - limited grass this poor lies frequently many bare spots around greens. greens ran ok but in poor condition. clear there is no or minor irrigation taking place and same regarding overall landscape maintenance . bunkers horrible. little sand. packed down dirt or mud. tee boxes really poor . it’s a shame because course was interesting and we’d otherwise play it regularly. impression is that ownership has abandoned the course and making no material investment to improve it even to maintain what is there

This course is literally a cow pasture. You are playing g off pig slop there right now, weeds everywhere including the sand traps, the greens and apron of greens. The Green’s are burnt out. Cart paths have pot holes everywhere. Cart path only. We had mud up to our knees and soaking wet shoes and socks. Impossible to play on.
We play all around the Venice (where we live every Sunday) area on the Big Summer golf card. We could only play 9 it was so bad, went in to get a refund on the back9, it will take a year or better to get this course back in condition, he would only give us a rain heck that expires at the End of October, no way and adamant about not giving us a refund.
A new owner is coming in tomorrow, I don’t know what the plans are for this course but it needs to be shut-down until it is playable, they have their work cut out for them. They need to inform the public about the condition before making tee times right now. Don’t waste your time, if I could give it a Zero I would.

Course is in great shape ,fairways are pristine and the greens are running true and are challenging ,all in all it was a great experience .i recommend this. Country club

We are medium handicap golfers and enjoyed the course. The fairways were in good shape, although greens had recently been aerated. Stopped in the very nice pro shop after. Will definitely play this course again.

River Wilderness is one of the best golf courses in the Tampa Bay area. The course is in excellent condition. We also enjoy the tennis, pickleball, fitness center and the social activities at the club. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. River Wilderness caters to everyone - from young families to retirees.

What a pleasure to play here! We a Swiss couple on holiday try to play as many different courses to be able to compare. Wilderness is top on our list. Apparently gone semi-private we just drove by to inquire . Everybody was so friendly and welcoming and we were immediately given a tee time the following day. When we arrived the bags were immediately pur on the carts by such a nice person! Unthinkable in Switzerland! The course is perfect- we had a twosome in front and a kind of tournament group behind so it was a very relaxing play. And as a great bonus I saw my first quite large gator sleeping in the sun and waiting for his first Swiss-steak! I didn't do him the favor and let Him let my ball. Tomorrow we are going to play Wilderness again, and I'm looking forward to it! Thankyou team wilderness.
