We stayed here a few years ago and as my son was doing a driving experience in Wigan we decided to come back. I didn't realise how big the site was, we stayed in a non electric field the first time we came but stayed ehu this time and actually got lost trying to find our pitch even with a map. (Paddock D could do with a signpost)
Large pitch size, we had a little trouble with neighbours being plugged in to our electric by mistake as theirs wasn't in an obvious place which was soon resolved. We had a pleasant stay. The facilities were very good though I do resent paying 50p for a shower on top of paying for the pitch. I never have any change on me so I had to go out purposely to get cash. I also don't like not being able to use my own fire pit and having to pay £29 (£10 refundable) to use a hired firepit with a started pack of logs/kindling for 2 nights especially when I have my own in my trailer anyway I actually felt quite robbed at that price. That kind of price I'd expect enough logs for 2 nights but we had to buy more logs and kindling the 2nd night! The young man on the quad going round with the fire pits was very polite though. There was alot of music over the weekend we were there that went on quite late but we didn't mind as we were up around the fire anyway. We forgot to take washing up liquid of all things but the lady in the cafe kindly let us have a small pot of w u liquid so we could clean our pots. We got the kids ice cream while we were there from the cafe which was very nice (wallings) but a little too soft/sloppy maybe the freezer could do with looking at . We had a nice stroll up to too good farm shop during our stay and we purchased some lovely fresh produce. Sunday came time to pack up and the heavens opened it was torrential. We packed up but paid for an extra night so we could leave our tent up as it was set to be dry the next day and we were told we could come back whenever the next day to take it down which was great. When we arrived back the tent was dry and we were able to pack it away without getting soaked though the pitch was a little boggy/muddy from all the rain. This is a nice site great if you love fishing or horses too I just wish you could bring your own fire pits!

Having recently spent 2 nights here. So sorry but will not be returning. We found the site unclean, the toilets were shocking, the bins we're over flowing causing no end of files and wasps and it wasn't cheap to stay. Couldn't get in the bar due to tables being reserved earlier on due to an act being on. The young lad on the quad was beautifully mannered though, didn't see any maintenance guys on site.

I'm currently still here as I write this review and I can't wait to leave tomorrow. It's currently gone midnight and it sounds like I'm at a rave, despite the rules being no noise or music after 11pm.
I have an autistic child who is extremely unsettled and it's not on.
Earlier when I walked to the toilet block somebody had thrown up all over the bar and outside due to being pissed as a fart.
Frankly it's full of people who want to party and get rat legged not a peaceful campsite to stay with young kids.
Never returning

Dear Hayley,
Thank you for your review. I will address the noise issue first.
One of our neighbours down the road had a party in a marquee and this was the source of the noise. As the noise was not on site it was completely out of our control and the 11pm quiet time was still enforced on site.
As you were here on the Friday night we're sure you are aware that from 11pm we expect the site to be quiet and we do checks around site to ensure this is the case. On Saturday night I did the night checks as usual, and explained to anyone who was still outside the source of the noise. I then sent an email to everyone on site explaining and apologising for the inconvenience.
On Sunday morning we did try to explain all of the above to your husband when he came to see us in the office, and I would like to extend the apology to yourself that we couldn't resolve the problem on the night, but it truthfully was completely out of our control.
With regards to someone being ill outside the bar, that regrettably did happen. If you were in the vicinity at the time, you will have seen the bar staff and me cleaning it up and the gentleman who was ill mopping the floor. He was extremely apologetic and insisted on cleaning up himself. It was an unfortunate incident, and was a first in Fred's bar, but it was dealt with quickly and professionally.
To finish, I would like to apologise again for the external noise issue. We are very much a family site, and we are proud that hundreds of families return to us year after year. We hope that you may try us again and have a peaceful stay with us as you did on the Friday night and Saturday day.

Brilliant site.
Clean loos and showers, showers are great!!
Once pitched you are left alone.
Loads of space between piches and lots of open space too.
The cafe food is simple but good and well priced.

Great fishing spot. I visited here for a few hours tip/feeder fishing with my mate during my latest visit from Australia. I had some trepidation as I had not fished like this since emigrating over 30 years ago. I ended up with 3 small carp going up to around 1.5kg and 14 skimmer bream which was a very enjoyable session.

As new caravaners, this site was local to us, but we couldn't have chosen anywhere better. The receptionist and site manager were so responsive to several problems we encountered, and resolved with ease and without question.Both gradeley down to earth Lancastrians! The site itself is a quiet oasis not far from the M6 turn off at Standish. There ate plenty of public footpaths, we went up Harrock Hill to the derelict windmill, worth the effort.
There are some good pubs and real ale to be had, The White Lion is worth a visit. A short distance beyond is Standish and the Olive Garden and the Foresters are worth a visit. Pepper Lane chippy matmy seem a little pricey, but the portions are huge and so fresh and well cooked. For anyone liking a decent pint, the Albion and the Hoot are welk worth a visit, both dog friendly as is the Foresters

Dreadful camp site, overcrowded, squalid and inadequate toilets and showers... to add insult to injury, there's a 50p charge for the dirty shower. Relieved to leave

An excellent experience from the outset. We were interested to camp here due to the coarse fishery on site and so we booked a non electric pitch with the intention of spending most of our time fishing. Upon arrival we headed to reception with a warm greeting and informative literature about the site along with a map.
Our pitch was flat with a good amount of space between neighbours. Minimal noise after 11pm. Fire pit was delivered direct to our pitch.
The real joy is the fishing. Reasonably priced you can pay upfront on arrival or on the bank. A spirited bailiff with lakes teaming with fish. The owner gave us some background on the lake we chose (number 4) and we caught some good sized common, mirror, tench and roach. We have been back just to the lake twice since our camping visit. Just gutted night fishing isn’t permitted!
In the morning my car wouldn’t start and the owner very kindly jump started it for me and we were on our way.
Some great memories made.

Just back from a great weekend at Charity Farm. Flat large pitches with plenty of room between each. Large open field with lots of space for kids to play without troubling other campers. One large group this weekend who felt they didn’t have to follow any of the site rules by continuing to play music very load after numerous warnings and allowing their feral kids to be nuisances flying around on quad bikes while the adults stayed up all night drinking and talking loudly. Some of them literally didn’t go to bed all weekend. At checkout we where reassured by the owners they wouldn’t be welcomed back.
The bar and cafe is a great addition, the staff are so friendly and work very hard. A credit to the owners. Great showers although there was quite a queue as there are only 3. Another toilet/shower block would be a great addition but the ones they have are clean and powerful.
We won’t let the inconsiderate campers spoil our fun. We’ve met some great people and have rebooked to meet up again in two weeks.

Clean, tidy, quiet, reasonably priced. However, showers not free - usually complimentary and part of pitch price. Tractors driving past quite a bit delivering logs for fires. Could do with another toilet block central to the site, as some plots were a good walk away. Same with waste disposable point - not well signposted and only one that we were aware of.

There were tents in the same field as us when we went and they were not struggling or anything. The weather was fleece wearing weather, if you get me? Overcast, but with a nice mix of sunshine. It was fresh and actually very peaceful. It did however rain through the night, which made the ground soil quite thick and sticky, but the farmer was more than happy to help people with his tractor. We didn't need him but I think it's because our van is only a two berth and quite light.
There are electric hook ups at reasonable rates so if it gets too cold, Take a small fire. We never needed them but even still. Give it a go!
