I Visit Opoutere Beach regularly as a nudist. To the earlier comment / complaint about nudity. All beaches in NZ are available to textile and nude users. There is no such thing as a nude beach or a textile beach. Regarding your comment re offensive behaviour happy to work with you on that.
Nudity is not an offence in NZ. Theres room for all lifestyles.

This beach is simply stunning and ends in an estuary which is equally stunning. Watch the surfers or go for a swim, too.

From us regulars....Please do NOT go naked anywhere near children or the textile area. Those who are NOT there to practice genuine Naturism, please GO AWAY. Perverts, exhibitionists, and those with sexual intent stay WELL AWAY from this beach!!

Fabulous is all that needs to be said. Sense of isolation,no buildings by the beach, sand, surf and a diversity of birds. An entire beautiful and just me in the evening twilight. Bliss.

Opoutere is one of the best beaches on the Coromandel for swimming, sunbathing, surfing, bodyboarding, cycling, and much more! And you can comfortably do all these things naked if you wish! Opoutere is well known and accepted as a "clothing optional" spot where family groups and people of all ages enjoy being clothes-free.
Contrary to other opinions regarding nudity at Opoutere, there is no law in NZ prohibiting nudity on ANY beach! For someone to be charged with "indecent exposure" the person must be doing something indecent - i.e. some form of sexual behaviour. Simply being naked on the beach is not deemed to be indecent.

Sandy stretch with a nice campground nearby, I loved being here with no one to be seen. Rip currents and nesting birds, so be aware. Loved the walk to get here.

Locals and iwi object to visitors taking their clothes off as this is a family beach, not a nude beach. As such nudity is looked upon as indecent behaviour.

Awesome beach for all. Ground Zero for the dotterel recovery programme - you'll see them all up and down the beach like nowhere else in NZ - hard to believe they are a troubled population. They nest (if you could call the scrape in the sand a nest ) in the dunes above high tide and are especially vulnerable to being disturbed in the nesting season Sep - Dec. Ideally this zone on the beach is best left to them along with the fenced off areas. Also beware the water - can be deceptive with the rips and tides.

An ocean beach, 5km long with no human development to be seen. Clothing optional to the north of the main camp. Can be dangerous in certain conditions with a number of rips to contend with. No surf life savers and access via public car park or through the camp for campers. During our stay we watched a pod of dolphins frolicking in the surf.

This is the best 'clothing optional 'beach in New Zealand. From the carpark or camping ground, follow the track to the beach, facing the beach turn left and walk until away from the textiles, approximately 2-300 metres or more. From there onwards,to the Northern end of the beach, you can go nude. It is a naturist paradise! Walk, swim, bathe . Be careful swimming here. There are rips and undertow. Even in the height of Summer this beach is never crowded. You'll see the regulars walking the beach in the buff. In my opinion it doesn't get better than this ! plenty of space to find a remote spot. Have not seen 'Meerkats' here, so very chilled.
