Did the driving tour, very nice 4 miles. Saw alot of birds and lizards not much else, probably too late in the afternoon and hot. Would recommend. Very nice staff at the gate and very informative.

You can def see some wildlife but won't see much from the car. Bugs can be vicious even with bug repellent. The no see ems swarmed us. We bought bug suits with netting over the face. Winter more birds.
Come prepared with water. Hat. Sun screen. Binoculars. Research tides. The tidal info fo the ocean not the same as that for ding darling. Low tide, early and dusk best time.
Veteran get in free so bring your national park card.

We've been here several times over the past 30 years. Never really saw a lot of wildlife. Very few birds for a place that should be loaded. We have been in winter, spring and summer. Would suggest going when they first open in the morning. We have never gone before 10 in the morning so that may be why. Going just after sun up or before sundown may increase your chances of seeing birds, etc. We've taken the road in both a car and bike. We much prefer a bike. You can enjoy the scenery more and it is easier to stop at the various turn outs. There is a 4 mile loop that misses the last half of the loop drive. Also, an 8 mile loop that goes to the end of the drive then follows a bike path along the main road taking you back to the entrance. The loop road is one way only. Even for bikes. It sure seems like more than 8 miles. The ride back can seem long but has a couple of spots to stop with water and a bench. In shade so that is good. Depending on the time of year this can be a very hot ride. Important items are sunscreen and water. Water is important as there are no stores on this ride though there are water fountains at places. Not sure if they work. Bring your own water. The visitor center is very well done. Parking is free. Nice exhibits and very friendly and helpful attendants. He reminded us that National Park Passes are accepted here which I forgot about. So saved us the fee for the loop road. The gift shop is very nice with some really nice gifts vs. the usual cheap plastic souvenirs. Worth a trip. There is a bike rental place just across the street from the visitors center. Again, visiting in the early morning will net you more wildlife and be a cooler more pleasant ride. The road is closed on Friday's so plan ahead. Also, there is a tram tour though we have never taken it.

Nice hidden gem. 4 mile route through the reserve. 2022 Hurricane Ian damaged a couple of boardwalks. You can drive or bike the 4-mile route. There is a canoe launch area about half way on the route. You will see various wildlife from osprey to egrets to blue heron to jumping fish and whatever else Mother Nature sees fit to display. The road is asphalt. At mile 2 there is an outlook that is worth getting out of the vehicle to climb the stairs to review. When you want to take pictures, pull to the right side of the road, take your photo and traverse on down the route. There is a $10 entrance fee.

Visiting this nature preserve was one of the highlights of my trip to Florida from Wisconsin. I saw birds I've never seen before and even an alligator. The gift shop had a wide variety of great souvenirs. The staff was awesome and I loved hearing the enthusiasm from them about the location and birds to see. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

The drive through nature trail was great. Although we went about midday we got some excellent views of Osprey, White Pelicans, Cormorants, White Ibis, Red-bellied wood pecker and some ducks I'm still trying to identify. We saw schools of fish and indeed a osprey flying back to its perch with a fish. There were two Green Iguanas who seemed quite unafraid of us. The trail was busy, but everyone cooperated. Would recommend highly

The tram ride was about 2 hours. I had a great time with relaxing and looking at the nature. Our naturalist driving the tram was extremely knowledgeable and energetic. We had seen many species of birds and a couple of iguanas. It was very interesting to also learn about what Hurricane Ian had impacted and how nature will take its course

Go early to avoid traffic and to see the most bird life. You will be astonished whether a novice or a lifetime birder. Please walk the tea and enjoy the back country. I can not say enough. Just do it!

It is an excellent place for the great outdoors and the birds are indeed splendid. There were white pelicans, osprey fishing and on nests, resting roseate spoonbills, heron and 2 green iguanas crossing the road. There are boardwalks and a 4 mile drive where you can stop on the right and get out the car. There's a lovely visitor centre & shop. One serious obstacle is accessing Sanibel, a long and torturous journey in and an even more desperate crawl to exit. BE WARNED

This is a wonderful way to wander through nature and see some beautiful things that tourists often forget about when visiting the area. We saw otters, different birds and amazing plants.

I road a bike to Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge in the past, but do not recall seeing location of paddleboard rental - I entered what I think was a Visitor Center when I first arrived - is the rental near there? I looked on the website and could not find an answer.

Kayak rental, and paddleboard (? I'm not sure) is in the refuge but a different entrance - off Tarpon Bay Road at Tarpon Bay Explorers. Try that anyway - I kayaked there and it was beautiful.

, what is the charge for the tram with the guide? We have a party of 13 which includes 9 dults and 4 kids. How many times a day do you go out? Also, can you drive a golf cart through there? How long is the tour? We are coming the Monday of Thanksgiving week.

Yes dogs are allowed if under co training and on a 6ft leash. Only service dogs allowed in the free visitor center.

You can take them around in your vehicle and no need to rush. Road is not paved so unless they have a specializes wheel chair with turf tires I would not suggest pushing them along the road. There are sections with nice boardwalk where to take them into the woods out to the water line to see the birds and fish jumping out of the water
I don’t see the team as a comfortable way to drive the site, use your car or van and take your time and pick your spots to get out
