It’s my 3rd time going in January, the Apoxee trail is closed because the weather but around it is the Owahee trail... around 8 miles... it’s awesome to take pictures, walk, run or bike for around 2 to 4 hours depending your pace and mood... one of my favs to spend a day in peace

The Apoxee Wilderness Trail is part of the Grassy Waters Preserve, a 23 square mile wetlands ecosystem that supplies the fresh water to Palm Beach and it's municipalities. There are two port a potties next to the parking lot and no water.
The trail is made up of a natural earth trail, boardwalks, and sometimes prairie ponds you might have to wade through. Along the way you can expect to see wading birds, deer, and alligators. After looking at the map I see that instead of the Apoxee Wilderness Trail you can take the Owahee Trail which runs around the perimeter of the preserve. It connects to the Apoxee trail in two places. As it is a long distance this would be a good trail for biking.
The first time I cam the trail was closed due to flooding. I came back and finally got to hike the full Apoxee trail, 2.5 miles with one more mile back to the parking lot. I saw woodstorks, a snake, a roseate spoonbill, great blue heron, egret, limpkin, anhinga, and an alligator. I had a great time hiking my daughter. I absolutely loved this trail.

This is a great urban hike in a remnant of the original Everglades. Unfortunately portions of the trail are frequently under water and it is often closed for months at a time due to high water levels.

This is a well maintained nature reserve. Good for observing birds and other wildlife in a natural, but very safe setting. The boardwalks are wheelchair and walker accessible.

Most of the year the trail from the main parking lot gets flooded about 500 yards in. If you can get past that section there are some beautiful hiking trails with abundant wildlife

just wonderful...my only question is why is this place not being maintained? Some of the boards in the walkway have broken perhaps from the summer hurricanes...we saw 4 Alligators, turtles and lovely birds:))

Nice trail and variety of plants. Coming from the north I was fascinated by the different floral and animals found walking in the trails. A must see if you appreciate nature.

I have been here multiple times and always have a great experience. I have seen otters, boar, deer, alligator, and sandhill cranes of all sizes. You can walk or bike and depending on the distance you want to do, take different trails.

Stumbled across this trail and rode most of it - the shell-packed trail is in great shape and fun, easy ride along the waters of grassy preserve. Saw plenty of birds, peacock bass and a few alligators. Highly recommended.

This easily accessible nature trail takes you to the middle of gorgeous South Florida wetlands. Short paved path and plenty of unpaved (partially boardwalk) trail to explore. A lot of wildlife such as raccoons, rabbits, alligators, and tons of different species of birds.
