Bättre städning i tältet.

A very nice location but unfortunately the staff gave a very unprofessional and unpleasant treatment.

I agree with other reviewers that this is an excellent experience, the tents are comfy, the bed is excellent and the whole stay leaves you with a positive feeling. And a day of kajaking around the small surrounding islands is a pleasure. I must add that the food was excellent. Part of the credit we must take ourselves since one cooks it himself :), but the quality of the produce was very good and the receipts we were given were well thought out and resulted in a great dinner experience both nights we spent there.
My main concern is that running a laid-back, kajak renting business, does not automatically extend to running a glamping site. Here is where I have some disagreements with other reviewers in that not everthing is OK, and I will take upon myself the task of pointing out that the emperor has no clothes (or not all of them at least).
It is called glamping for a reason, and the reason is that it needs to be a luxurious experience. I understand that this is an island, with the constraints that this imposes, and in the bare end it is camping, but there needs to be certain level of quality of service when one pays the same amount per night (or more) than in a 4-star hotel in Paris, Berlin or Madrid. And here is where the problem starts. Again, no complain about the tent, bed, dry toilet and the lack of shower. This is part of the experience. But, to me, what made the whole stay not worth the price was the lack of a coherent quality experience in the service. To drop there a few Millenials and leave them in charge of the place without proper training or precise instructions does not provide the luxury experience that the price of the place demands. All the girls we interacted with were extremey nice and willing, but there was a lack of coherence in the running of the place that is for sure not their fault, but a lack of clear instructions and training from management. The following should not happen in a place that pretends to sell a cool glamping experience:
- The first day, after settling ourselves in the tent, I came down to the "ladan" asking if I could chill a bottle until the evening. The girl in reception looked surprised by the question and send me to ask in the kitchen (note: she send me, the customer, to ask, she did not go herself). Ignoring that I had to ask myself, sure everyone working there should know whether a guest can chill something in a fridge? (which I knew I could since it is written in the website, I just wanted to know were). In general, I asked several things during our stay to whoever I first met when I entered the ladan, and I **never** got an answer from the first girl I asked. I was always directed to someone else (not the same someone). Again, everyone working there should know every aspect of the place and feel confident enough to give a straight answer to any question, instead of passing the issue to someone else. That added to the feeling of incoherence to the running of the place.
- The first evening, we got the dinner box, and butter was missing (and it was an essential ingredient in the receipt. No way to cook the meat without it). Luckily enough we collected the box just as they put it out, so there was still someone in the kitchen when I came down to point this out, and I (and all others, it was forgotten in all boxes) got the ingredient. The next day it happened again. An ingredient was mising in the dinner box. This day we got back a bit late from kajaking and there was no one there anymore to fix it. It was just garlic, which we can live without, but had it been something more essential to prepare the dinner we would have been left stranded without it. Also, in the first evening, a cutting board was missing. We got one the second evening. So, all in all, we stayed there two nights and there were issues with the dinner box both nights. Granted, small issuses, but issues that should not happen in a well run place.
- Same with breakfast. The second day there was not enough butter in the breakfast box (only one portion, while the previous day we had gotten four), and I had to go down to pick some more up. We also got only one knife (a huge kitchen knife, uh?) while the previous day we got two normal ones with which one can actually spread butter.
- The breakfast mugs for coffee/tea were dirty. You could scratch with your fingernail a layer of scab from not properly cleaning the thing for ages. And the price of a 4-star hotel for this service? I do not think so.
- Bedsheets are good quality, but not the towels. They are aged by now (thin and not very useful for what they need to do, which is dry you)
- The place seems to be tailored for people staying just one night. I understand that then one has to change towels, bedsheets and clean the tent in between guests. But what about those who stay two (or more) nights? There is not service whatsoever. I understand that it is not worth to change sheets and towels for two nights, and we would not ask for that, but it is also true that guests staying more than one night are saving running costs. So it would not be outrageous to charge somewhat less for additional nights after the first one. Getting zero service for almost 400 euros per night is not an option.
- Even if we tried not to walk on the wooden deck with boots/shoes, it gets dirty just from dust in the ambient. Even more if it rains. Again, for the price payed, it would not be outrageous to have the decks swept every morning.
- As one steps down from the boat, one is welcome by a pile of trash in front of the "ladan", and shortly after one realizes that the side of the building is another trash dump: rusted drums, odd wood pieces, old mattresses and other unrecognizable waste is just lying around. Is this a place to give the customers a sense of luxury? Please address this.
All these issues should be easy to address. Most of them do not even involve any investment, but just common sense and a service-minded attitude transfered to the staff. Others, like keeping a set of fluffly, good towels need some investment from time to time, but it is something that any hotel has to face. And I think it is time now here.
By the way, something that would greatly increase the cool and "mysfaktor" would be to provide bathrobes.
So, summarizing, this is a place with potential, and it is almost there, but currently it does not deliver what its price level should require.

Hej!
Trendigt men väldigt enkelt. Maten var under all kritik. Dåligt skyltat i skogen.

After having to adjust the timing of our trip (with the patient and exceptional help of David), we were looking forward to this trip for several months and our already high expectations were significantly exceeded. Such a relaxing, energy-giving, and amazing stay at Fejan Outdoor. Every aspect of the stay was well thought through and we were continuously delighted. The staff was also extremely friendly and happy to help! Would highly recommend. Amazing!

TACK.
