It was beautiful to look at but the biting flies chased us away....maybe during the off season we will try again.

The location was perfect for over-nite travel on I-95 in GA. Arrived at noon in time for lunch on the water and some sightseeing before checking in a very comfortable, clean B&B.

I love old trees and resurrection fern along with plenty of Spanish moss. This view does not disappoint you when you visit. It’s a throw back in time and beautiful place to see!

This was the hub of the city of Darien, Georgia's second oldest city. Beautiful St. Andrews Episcopalian church and Darien Methodist church are on this square.

A nice old square where art and car shows are held during festivals. Not really much there when no festival is ongoing. Try it during the Blessing of the Fleet event.

In the past this park was at the center of business, culture, and religion for Darien. Lumber barons used to live here and a few of the houses remain today as well as two very old churches. This quaint old southern park comes alive each April as it plays host to the Art In The Park, coinciding with the annual Blessing Of The Fleets. Filled with grand old oaks draped in Spanish moss, paved walkways, a memorial fountain for Lloyd "Buck" Thompson in the center, and flanked by historic churches and a few historic homes of lumber barons. Artists and craftsmen set up their tents under the oaks to showcase their wares, military bands from nearby Fort Stewart played the weekend I was there. Children ran about playing, couples holding hands and tossing pennies into the fountain, some walked their dogs, and others sat in their chairs under the shade as they enjoyed all that the day had to offer. I have been attending these events since I was a kid and wouldn't dream of missing it. Darien is rich in history, has some of the best shrimp and oysters around, Open Gates B&B, a fort to explore and so much more. Pack a pic nick, come walk in the park, and enjoy the views and the smell of the water just steps away.
