Tough, but worth it
2020年10月
This is not an easy hike, but it's well worth your effort, Its 425 steps to the top, but if you take your time, you'll enjoy the falls the entire way. It can get crowded, so know that you'll have company. Start early in the day for the best experience.

Base of the Trail

Moderately steep hike to the base of the falls, but it's a nice trail and you can rest on the way up. Probably not even 1/2 mile up. The view from the base is lovely.

You Can Do It!
2020年5月 • 夫妻情侣
We arrived at the park and it was packed; no COVID-19 social distancing here. The lower lot by the visitors center was full and we were directed to the parking lot at the top of the falls. We viewed the waterfall from the platform at the tip, then made our way down the East Ridge Trail. When we arrived at the bottom we snapped photos at the arch and used the restrooms. Make sure to bring water to stay hydrated the vending machines were sold out. We took the Creek Trail back up the falls, stopping to skip rocks at the pond. The water was cool and refreshing on our feet. Once we made it back to the top, we posed for celebration selfies and drove to the nearest Dollar General for Nutty Buddy ice creams.

Challenging hike rewarded with great views of water falls and native flora
2020年4月
There are several diverse tails in Amicalola Falls State Park, but "Base of the Falls Trail" is our favorite. It starts at the visitor center just inside the park and meanders alongside the level roadway to a reflecting pool at the base of the falls, then turns into a steep climb of paved switchbacks and stairs to a magnificent view point midway up the falls. To hike this trail, we usually drive past the visitor center and park at the lot by the reflecting pool. On our visit this week, we saw several visitors fishing for trout in the reflecting pool, which is allowed with a fishing license in season. The hike up the trail was particularly rewarding this week because we got to see a lot of native wildflowers in bloom, including hillsides of different trillium, phlox, and more. The falls themselves were rushing with lots of spring rain runoff. One of the nice things about this trail is that there are lots of view points with space to move off the trail and just enjoy the view. You can choose to hike only as far as you want, so you shouldn't avoid the trail because you think you can't make it all the way up. Any part of the trail you do will be worth your while.

Extremely steep, paved trail. Take the ADA trail instead
2019年9月
Once we saw how high the falls were, some of us opted to drive to the bottom and meet the rest so we wouldn't have to climb back up. We saw the ADA parking, but didn't know what it was at this point. We parked at the bottom and there is still an EXTREMELY steep paved walk to climb up to the base of the falls. It just about killed us. We later found out if you parked at the ADA lot, it's level and takes you to a beautiful overlook where you can climb down a few steps to the base.

See a real Appalacian Trail camping shelter
2019年9月 • 夫妻情侣
Distance hikers on the Appalacian Trail often stop for the night at rudimentary shelters along the trail. I have heard about these shelters, and as we walked the Base of the Falls trail from the Visitor Center towards the falls, we passed by and peeked into one of these shelters. It was cool to see it in person, and it was as basic as I had been told. The trail from the visitor center to the reflection pond at the bottom of the falls is level and easy. From there, it climbs steeply, following alongside the creek. I caught glimpses of the falls high above as we hiked along. You can continue hiking all the way to the top, or like us, you can turn around when you are ready and you can drive up.

Love This Challenging And Scenic Trail
2019年8月 • 好友
You can begin the trail at the Visitor Center or drive 4/10 of a mile to the reflection pond and start your climb to the top from there (small parking area available). The trail continues behind the reflection pond where you cross over a bridge and Amicalola Creek. The real climb to the top of Georgia’s highest waterfall (725 feet) starts here. The trail (base is comprised of a rough mixture of concrete which provides good traction) follows Little Amicalola Creek as it flows through the Appalachian hardwood forest. After a moderate hike and a couple of switchbacks you will reach the first lower observation deck where there is a beautiful first view of the falls. From here the hike requires that you climb up a staircase, which consists of 175 steps, leading to an observation bridge (second and best view of the falls). To reach the top the final section requires you to climb up another 435 (strenuous) steps to the top. The hike is definitely worth the effort. On clear days the views of the entire state park and Little Amicalola Creek are fantastic.
FYI...If you want to avoid the longer strenuous hike be aware that you can drive to the top of the falls. As you drive up you will see a small parking area where you can park and and then hike to the falls along the very short West Ridge Falls Access trail.

Nice trail, not too strenuous, good warm up before the climb
2019年7月 • 家庭
This trail slowly tracks upward toward the base of the falls....a few creek areas to stop and dip your feet in the water and several places to stop and rest before the big climb.

This is the starting point for some is the trip of a lifetime. 3500 Km or spproximately 2200 miles with take you to Mt. Katahdin,, Maine, the Northern Terminus of the AT. Come see this, walk the Trail or even a part of it. It will put a spring in your step, a smile on your face and peace in your heart.

Peaceful

Beautiful peaceful waterfall, you can walk up half way or all the way to the top. Walking halfway is a hike, but if you take it slow and easy it is worth it, going all the way to the top is HARD and you really should in great shape. There are stairs and are not easy to get up if you have issues with walking and climbing. You can drive to the top which is an easy quick trip up, there is a area to pull off to view the top of the falls. There is a lodge at the top, we ate lunch at a very reasonable rate and it was very good. You can sit out on the huge deck and take in the mountain views!
