Winter camping

Nice park. The bathroom light is on a timer but if you walk in when the light is on you wouldn't know this. So my husband was in the shower when the lights went out. Please upgrade to motion sensor!!! The rv sites are nicely spaced and flat. We didn't experience the primitive sites. We saw a lot of birds. Roosters crow at crack of dawn. Hiking trails are very well maintained. The falls are impressive! Nice firepits. Very nice playground and good area for dogs. Staff was excellent and registration was a breeze.

NEVER AGAIN!

We stayed in site 112 Lakeside but you can't see the lake at all. They've let it get overgrown with trees and brush. The worst part is only the camp hosts have sewer hookups and there's no dump station in the Lakeside loop. The only dump station is more than a mile away in the Riverside loop and the roads are small with steep hills. The staff in the office/store were mentally challenged and must have never camped before. They thought disconnecting our camper, hooking it to the truck, and driving it to the other park loop was no big deal. When you're staying 5 days, it's a pain!

Daytime Hike with Beautiful Falls

The trails are very well maintained. The day was good weather with some drizzle of rain before I hit the trail so there were some muddy spots on the loop trail.

The park is well organized. The campsites seem nice and there is even a canoeing to only campsite.

This is a smaller state park but, it is one of the nicer ones. It’s a great place for a quick stop or a longer hike.

Day of Relaxation

I needed a peace of mind from the rat race and so I got in my car and went there around 10am and I did not want to leave because it was a beautiful day of relaxation watching the waterfalls.

Clean and woodsy campground with pretty trails to walk

Cozy, quiet and rustic campground with great woodsy pull through spots for RV's. It's a really pretty park with a few short hiking trails. Great for 1-2 nights. There is no camp store or firewood for sale- but there is a little store just before the park entrance that sells wood. The bathrooms and showers are really clean and they have a washer/dryer ($2.00 each per load). The trail along the river takes about an hour - with great views and the sound of the waterfall. There are a lot of roots/rocks so wear good walking shoes. It's very safe- the ranger and sheriff both drive through a few times each day/night.

Enjoyable hike

My daughter and I walked the trail with her dog. The trail is definitely not accessible to strollers. I also wouldn't recommend young children unless you are willing to carry them for most of it. The trail was marked well, but there were some areas with tree roots, rocks, and some areas where you needed long legs to get down a few steps. Otherwise, it was a nice little hike and the falls were beautiful. There is a $5 parking fee, which was fine. There is a camping area in the park which seemed to have a lot of amenities, but we didn't use them.

Absolutely Awesome Impressive Waterfall After It Rains.

I really like photographing waterfalls. High Falls State Park is someplace I escape to with my camera, when it rains heavily on one day and is sun shine the next. Because Lake Jackson aggressively spills over its dam and make a powerful cascading waterfall.

The park itself has a small entrance parking fee of less than $10 per vehicle. Walk in people do not have to pay a fee. It has several trails for hiking, picnic areas, a restroom facility and gazebos that can be rented out for special occasion. If you have a State of Georgia Park Pass, then parking is free.

Distance from Atlanta- about 50 minutes right down I-75. Distance from Macon is about 40 minutes. The park is close enough to I-75 (about two miles down the road), that if you are just passing through, you can stop and have a picnic and walk around, without interrupting your travel schedule too much. Bring your food with you though, there aren't a lot of places to grab a bite nearby.

There are photographs already here that show you what the waterfall normally looks like. The ones I am posting show you how it looks after a heavy rain. The splash of the water and the roaring crashing of the waves is awesome.

Enjoy and come check out High Falls State Park, especially a day after heavy rains.

Beautiful State Park

The Campground & sites were beautiful. The campsite was level with electric & water. The trails and visiting the Falls was fantastic. It was extremely humid while we were there. We live in Florida so when I say extreme ... The staff on duty was friendly & helpful. I gave 4 stars because we had no (ATT) cell service. If your good with no cell or WiFi, give it 5 stars.

Makes a nice day trip worth seeing

Lake Jackson overflows down a 25' fall that is about 350' long, worth seeing. Very small campground for but well kept park facilities.

Beautiful state park!

We stopped here for a picnic lunch as we were heading up 75 towards TN. It was a very nice place to picnic and stretch our legs. Open green spaces, restrooms, pretty falls.
