Une ferme pleine d'histoire. L'atmosphère de la veille de la bataille est très bien décrite, le lit du Napoléon en place avec les explications concernant le système de pliage de celui-ci.
C'est ici qu'on peut voir Napoléon entouré de ses généraux donnant ses dernières dispositions et 3 cartes très intéressantes avec les grandes mouvements des troupes belligérantes entre 16-18 juin 1815.

We really enjoyed this little museum ( which is included in the price of the 1815 Pass). It has some interesting memorabilia, displayed meaningfully to tell a story. The real magic of this place though, is the audio guide. It is a mixture of descriptions of objects on display and quotes from various personages who were with Napoleon the night before the battle of Waterloo ( presumably from their diaries or from letters). The combination is superbly done and really gives you a feel for what it might have been like at the Ferme du Caillou the night before the battle. The quotes we read with feeling and really come to life. It is also surprisingly uncrowded, even on weekends. One of the highlights of Waterloo for us.

Selon mes goûts, j'ai trouvé ce musée plus intéressant que le Muse Wellington à Waterloo. Il est pourtant aussi petit que le précédent. Sans doute, parce qu'ici il était plus question des simples soldats et de l'armement ? Attention : le parking est extrêmement petit ! Mais, il paraît que lors de manifestations importantes, on peut se garder tout le long de la chaussée. Ce que moi, personnellement, je ne préfère pas ! Donc, ici, à moins que vous ne préfériez venir lors des manifestations importantes, préférez la visite de la semaine. Dernière recommandation : si vous voulez le tarif préférentiel pour visiter plusieurs endroits, vous devez vous rendre d'abord au Memorial de la bataille de Waterloo 1815 qui se trouve à quelques kilomètres. Pour 21€ (séniors), vous visiter le Memorial + le dernier GQ, le musée Wellington et vous accédez à la célèbre butte du lion, bien entendu ! Ticket valable 1 an !

Excellent musée bien situé la collection est intéressante, les pièces présentes ne le sont p ailleurs. L’entrée est très peu chère et la visite vaut vraiment le coup. Le lieu a conservé son intérêt historique. L’audio guide est bien fait.

Een niet al te groot museum maar het feit de Napoleon van hieruit z'n strategie heeft beraamd maakt het zeker de moeite waard hier even halt te houden. Een audiogids loodst je door het hele museum tot in de tuin.

This former farm is located about 4 kms from the Lion Mound south along the N5. It was requisitioned by Napoleon's staff and used as his HQ immediately prior to the Battle of Waterloo.
It has some interesting exhibits including Napoleon's campaign bed. There are various swords and firearms, busts and statues of Napoleon and in the grounds an ossuary. An audio guide is available.
We did not find the museum as comprehensive as Wellington's HQ but it was interesting nevertheless. It is suitable for the mobility impaired and there is a childrens' play area. There is limited parking at the front off the main road.

However, allow me to clarify the situation. The two headquarters are very different; both by their geographical location (one in the heart of a city centre and the other one in the countryside) and their content. It was indeed decided that it would be best for the public to present museums that differ in their contents rather than having two redundant institutions. Now, in terms of traffic signs, we are unfortunately not allowed to make any changes as we have very specific rules to follow. As for the farm, it is a listed building and again, we are subject to rules that preserve the heritage…

We all enjoyed our visit to Napoleon’s Last Headquarters. The displays are fascinating, and well put together. The movie was really interesting and informative. And to be able to know we were walking in the steps and rooms of Napoleon was amazing and so moving. The staff member was very helpful and pleasant.

Endroit rempli de souvenirs émouvants.
On y voit la chambre de l'Empereur, là où il a passé la dernière nuit avant la bataille décisive. On y voit aussi la salle où les différents Maréchaux ont préparé les opérations. Côté pratique, je recommande de terminer la visite des sites par ce musée, qu'on soit en voiture ou à pied. Bus 365a toutes les heures pour Bruxelles.
Entrée comprise dans le Pass 1815.
On y voit la chambre de l'Empereur, là où il a passé la dernière nuit avant la bataille décisive. On y voit aussi la salle où les différents Maréchaux ont préparé les opérations. Côté pratique, je recommande de terminer la visite des sites par ce musée, qu'on soit en voiture ou à pied. Bus 365a toutes les heures pour Bruxelles.

Merci pour votre chaleureux témoignage. Je me permets une petite nuance : la visite du champ de bataille peut également débuter par le Dernier QG de Napoléon, pour vivre les événements chronologiquement. Le musée vend également les Pass 1815, permettant aux visiteurs de visiter, à prix réduits, les différentes institutions du champ de bataille :) Au plaisir de vous y revoir.

J'ai été avec mes enfants (ados) ce jeudi 7 mars, lors d'une petite "animation", ils n'étaient pas très motivés au début.
Mais dès qu'Achille à commencé à raconter la vie de soldat durant l'époque de Napoléon, ils étaient plus qu'attentif.
Achille a su faire vivre cette époque de l'histoire, Incroyable.
Mes ados ont appris pleins de choses.
Si vous venez pour visiter ce musée de manière libre, en max 20 min avec les ados vous avez finis. Avec un audioguide vous mettrez plus longtemps.
Mais ici, pour l'animation qui devait durer 1h30, on en a passé presque 3h.
Achille est passionné de cette période de l'histoire et transmis cette passion.
1000 mercis à lui.
Magnifique musée, didactique pour les plus jeunes.

Das letzte Hauptquartier Napoleons mag historisch wertvoll sein, aber für den interessierten Besucher gibt es hier eher Kuriositäten (Napoleons Klappbett und den Frühstückstisch) zu sehen, sonst nur Dinge, die neben dem Löwenhügel vollkommen unbedeutend erscheinen bzw. auch dort zu sehen sind (Waffen, Uniformen,...).
Sehr irritierend war, dass ich augenscheinlich der einzige Besucher war und vermutlich den Mitarbeiter in seinem Museum geweckt habe. Das hat leider auch keinen positiven Eindruck hinterlassen.
Schlecht ist auch die Erreichbarkeit: mit dem Bus (nur 1x pro Std) dauert es rund 30min ab Waterloo. Die einstellige Anzahl an Parkplätzen vor der Tür macht aber vermutlich deutlich, wie wenig Menschen hier selbst in der Hochsaison erscheinen

Napoleon's last headquarters, the Ferme du Caillou, is an authentic location in which Napoleon spent the night of 17th to 18th June 1815. This site is 262 years old and offers visitors a permanent exhibition retracing the events of the famous night with original artefacts (including his bed). We have voluntarily chosen a complementary film show to that of our partners at the 1815 Memorial, which is a centre for interpretation.
It is true that we are situated 4 kilometres from the Butte du Lion, the distance covered by the French soldiers on the morning of 18th June. Public transport only stops at our museum once an hour and, unfortunately, we cannot make any change to this service.
Our car park has 12 spaces for private cars and 2 spaces for groups travelling by coach. This is our low season and it may be that a visitor is alone in the museum. This takes nothing away from its quality.
On the other hand, welcoming visitors is one of our key values and we take it particularly seriously. We are sincerely sorry that it did not come up to your expectations and would like to offer you our apologies. Next time, please do not hesitate to let us know immediately if you are unhappy, as this will help us to improve our service.
