Hard to find the exact location of this site. Apple Maps was way off. Waze got us close. The marsh is impressive, however. It’s easy to visualize a battle being fought there.

This site commemorating the July, 1742 Battle of Bloody Marsh can be reviewed in 20 or 30 minutes, depending upon level of interest. As a history buff, I learned that Bloody Marsh on St. Simon's was the northernmost advance of the Spanish in North America.

If you went to Fort Frederica and watched the intro movie, you have a good understanding of what Bloody Marsh is/was, or if you're up on your Georgia history. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed. There are a couple of picnic tables, sufficient parking and I think there were restrooms, but the draw is the marsh and the battle playing out in your head.

Very interesting read about the Battle of the Bloody Marsh. Hard to imagine anyone fighting a war in such a place.

Simple display that describes what occurred during the battle. And that’s about it. Nice area, lots of live oaks, and plenty of parking. Worth the stop and quick visit.

There is not much to do here. The scenery was very peaceful. We went here after touring Fort Frederica. It was nice to learn the history of the battle. Never knew about it before coming here. The monument was nice.

We went to Bloody Marsh after touring Fort Frederica. It is basically just a grassy marsh. The site of a battle with the Spanish.

It is a very small area consisting mainly of just a viewing area and informational display. But as it is unchanged since the battle it is easy to envisage exactly what happened there.

where might the battle site have been if it is not at this location?
The actual site is unknown but it would have been no more than 3 miles from Fort Frederica. The monument is a full 8 miles from the fort. The park rangers at the fort are a good resource about the battle if you get the chance to talk to them.
