This isn't the biggest motor museum you'll visit but it's still an interesting place to visit with some unique attractions.
I was greeted by a friendly staff member on arrival and was told I was first there. I always like getting to places before it gets crowded as it's much easier to take photos. The cars are well arranged in the building to get quite a few in whilst still being able to see them. There is a wide range of ages from quite early machines right up to a relatively modern Rover at the end. All the cars look to be well looked after and I enjoyed seeing them. In amongst the cars in the early part of the museum are some shop displays and other mocked up buildings such as a garage showing other interesting items relating to motoring. There's also an excellent small exhbition showing the buildings original usage. Then there's some more cars before signs showing the way to some more displays upstairs. This has the museums motorbike and cycle collections as well as an interesting display on the TT and especially John McGuiness with several of his racing bikes. There's also a great selection of old pedal cars and some interesting old car related arcade machines. The upper level also provides a balcony where you can get a view over the initial cars you see as you walk in as well as the cars leading to the exit. There are also some aviation exhibits hanging from the ceiling.
Back downstairs the cars and some more mock up buildings lead you to the exit and the gift shop. This would probably be worth the entrance fee on it's own but wait there's more! Across the courtyard of the museum is a second building with a Bluebird exhibition with full sized replicas of a Bluebird car and two of the record breaking boats. Although these are replicas, they are every bit as good as seeing the real thing. Surrounding them is an exhibition on the record breaking exploits of Sir Malcolm Campbell and his son Donald including a film about them. It's clear a lot of effort has gone into this exhibition and it's a welcome addition to the already excellent main museum.
The site also features a café which has possibly the best view of any I have been to. It has a small menu but the food is very good. A wider choice of hot meals would improve things but it's clean and again has friendly staff like the museum itself.
Overall it's a great place to spend half a day and I would certainly return the next time I visit the area.

Punches above its weight. Car-for-car on a par with the Beaulieu Motor Museum. All vehicles, both cars and motorcycles, are restored and kept to a very high standard, with informative descriptors. A great collection of motoring ephemora.

It has been a long while since me and my wife have been to the Lakeland Motor Museum. Since we last went, my wife had become disabled and needed wheelchair access. I was pleasantly suprised to see there was plenty of room to manoeuvre a wheelchair and also they had a lift to take a wheelchair to the upper floor.
The entrance charge is £11 per person as of oct 2023 which i thought was not too bad considering how much there is to see and how well the exhibits are documented.
Although not disabled myself, my wife is and i found it very difficult to access the Bluebird display which is a fair distance from the main building and over quite rough terrain pushing a wheelchair. It would have been hard also to access the Bluebird venue with a scooter i feel. Maybe there points may be taken onboard?
Great Family day out though for anyone with a love of Cars, Motorbikes and even Cycles plus you can take Photos in there too. I would recommend.

Well, where do you start with this museum - there are so many exhibits, cars, motorcycles, memorabilia, advertising signs and so much more! In fact there are so many exhibits that several motorcycles are at the back of the displays are difficult to see - more exhibition space required!
All the vehicles are beautifully presented with useful descriptions and there is a one-way system to guide you around the museum. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and there is an excellent souvenir shop with interesting and unusual items. There is also a smaller exhibition across the car park, devoted to Sir Malcolm Campbell and Bluebird.
When you feel like a rest, try the cafe - excellent cakes and pastries!

Wonderful place. I was expecting to take hundreds of photos, but got so involved in looking at the exhibits I totally forgot! Ah well, I'll just have to come back again.

A small compact museum which has a wide range of transport forms, from cycles to toy cars to cars & planes. Takes you through the decades and down memory lane. In a separate building you find the history of the bluebird to the last record attempt. Quite a poignant experience. Plenty of parking & a cafe next door

Very well presented display of all types of motor vehicles and motorcycles plus other automobilia. Very informative and has display items that will appeal to all ages. Very much liked the TT display and videos. On my visit there was a classic car show in the surrounding car park which made it even more interesting👍

It is lovely to see such a selection of precious old gems. A blast of nostalgia is just what the doctor ordered. There are some superb examples of very rare cars in pristine condition and this can be said for all the exhibits. I wouldn't fancy the job of polishing everything but whoever does it, does a fantastic job. There is something to appeal to all enthusiasts, motoring, biking, cycling, pedal cars, signs and memorabilia. I did notice that one or two of these precious vehicles are actually touching each other, which could potentially cause damage. They only need to be moved slightly to avoid this and that could be easily done without affecting the walking space. We had a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

How much time should we allow for our visit here?

It depends how much you like cars and bikes. If you're really interested you can easily spend the whole morning or afternoon. Otherwise I would say an hour to one & a half hours. There is a really good cafe there so slow extra time if you want food and /or a drink.

Can you go on any of the exhibits?

Hello- many thanks for your enquiry. As most of our exhibits need to be preserved, we don't allow people to sit in or on them. However if there is something you're specifically interested in engaging with, please contact us in advance or speak to our staff on the day and we'll see how we can offer assistance. There is a 1930s dodgem car on the ground floor and a static pedal car on the first floor viewing gallery children are allowed to sit in. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the question. We receive a lot of visiting children, both families and schools who enjoy the Museum. We offer a free children's quiz which is well suited to this age range - children receive a medal for doing the best at the quiz, which follows the route around the Museum.

Hi, We welcome photography, and are happy to share visitors photos on our social media. Yes we like to know when it's for commercial reasons. I've answered the reviewer's comments in detail in their reply, but suffice to say you can't please all of the people all of the time, though we do try!
