What a wonderful time I and my friends had. Great time of year to go and we absolutely loved touring the town of Wallace as well. The Sierra Silver Mine Tour was a lot of fun as well as interesting. The trolly ride to the mine included a loop of the town and made for a great site seeing adventure after the Mine tour. The shops in that little town were something to behold and everyone in your family is sure to enjoy! Take a weekend and visit this little town. Be sure to stay at the Brooks Hotel, very nice and very comfortable and the restaurant has an excellent breakfast as well.

Great experience, lots of facts and knowledge from John the trolley driver and the mine tour guide Fast Freddie. Equipment used to mine in underground mines were demonstrated. Learned much and enjoyed the history of mining and Wallace, ID. Worth the time and money.

We had never been on a mine tour. We thoroughly enjoyed our driver and then mine tour by a 33 year veteran on the mine, Fast Freddy. We could have listened to his stories for hours. Very reasonable pricing by non-profit. You walk up 25 stairs then walk into the mine. Some water and mud in spots. Dimly lit. They operate two pieces of noisy equipment. We found visit to mining museum a few blocks over helped with our understanding of mining operations. A nice break from outdoor activities in Sandpoint and Coeur d Lene.

Super interesting tour! Both our mine guide and trolley car driver were really great. They were very knowledgeable and personable and really made it a fun experience for our family. Both the adults and the kids loved it! It's so amazing what was accomplished in those mines and the extremely hard work and sacrifice of those miners. It really gives you a whole new perspective and appreciation for what it takes to extract precious metals from a mine. Special thanks to our tour guide for taking a family picture for us in front of the mine!

This is a must visit as it is as realistic as it can get. Our guide, a retired miner, gave one of the best guided tours ever experienced. Friends agreed. It provides an inside look at the difficulties, challenges and in some cases, sacrifices.

I've been on several hard rock mining tours and rate this on as well done. The walk isn't difficult, very informative. I would have loved a few more stories of their personal mining experiences. They demonstrated the compressed air drills and loaders. If you have young kids with you who don't like loud noises, stay on the outside of the group when they demonstrate the tools. Otherwise plug your ears and enjoy the experience and ask questions!

This is the real deal. A former miner, Lee, led a small group of us on a walking tour (wear hardy shoes -there's lots of water on the ground) through the Sierra Silver Mine. It was amazing to learn how complex -and potentially dangerous- it is to extract silver from rock!! The mine is no longer in use-but was worked 24 hours a day from around 1900 to sometime in the 1970's.. Don't miss this. And while there, walk or drive around the beautiful, century old town of Wallace. Famous for surviving the horrific forest fire of 1910. Get off the interstate and you will enter another world!!

The trolley tour around the little heritage town was very informative. You learn about the characters that shaped and rebuilt this one of a kind town, the people who outsmarted the US government to protect its very existence. But the real highlight is the silver mine tour. It is very interactive and Lee, the retired miner who presented our tour, did an amazing job of showing us exactly what it was like to drill and blast your way through solid rock to find the richest silver deposits in the world.

This was our second tour with the Sierra Silver Mine Tour. We were a group of seven adults and everyone really enjoyed the tour. Our guide, Lenny, was a former mine worker and he had a lot of fun stories to share. (At times we had a little trouble understanding him, but it didn't affect our overall enjoyment.) We would love to do the tour again if we're back in the area.

This affordable tour offers so much insight and information and is worth every penny!! I took a group of senior citizen and they loved the history and knowledge they learned. The tour includes a complete city of Wallace guided and narrated trolley tour. The mine tour guides are experienced retired miners and actually run the equipment/machinery on the tour to give you an idea of exactly how the miners worked and the tools they used. The guide offers to take your photo with your cell/camera at the beginning of the tour as well. Don’t miss this fun experience when in Wallace. You won’t be disappointed and you’ll even get a souvenir!

If we just drive into town, are we likely to be able to get on a tour the end of July? Don't really want to buy tickets for a designated time as I am not sure what time we will be arriving in Wallace.

They schedule quite a few tours daily so there is a chance you can get on without pre booking. But that's just my feeling. I would call them closer to your date and ask them.

Is there a lot of walking involved? I am coming to visit with a 91 year old and she isnt sure if she could do it.

I'd say a 1/8 of a mile several steps up to the entrance and a gradual slope in the mine. Rock floor most of the time. if she is spry and sure footed yes...if not no.
There is a two mile trolley ride to and back, open air.

Is this tour suitable for young children? Thinking of doing this as a stop on a family road trip. We have a 7 yr old (she’d love it) and a 3 yr old who I’m not so sure about....

Yes this would be great for children. They do demonstrate how the equipment is used so it does get very loud for a brief amount of time. They also turn out the lights just for a fraction of a second to show how dark it is. You might want to bring ear protection for the loudness and just prepare them for a brief time of darkness. If they're ok with this, everything else will be fine and it will be fun for them too.
