A nice little getaway. Excellent path and covered picnic tables. Be careful of ticks during the warm months. If you are lucky, you might see some white squirrels.

My husband and I have an RV and as such visit many state parks. I keep notes on each park we visit because it's difficult to keep them all straight. We had stayed at this park to attend a out of the way benefit golf tournament.
Here are my notes:
beaver Dan State Park (near Carlinville, IL)
• showers: C
○ push button time
• Campsites on weekends are sort of crowded but not KOA crowded
• Lake
• Restaurant on site
• Electric only - no water hook up

The campgrounds are nice and roomy. The lake was pretty; but, the perimeter had a lot of dead fish floating near the banks. The restrooms were being redone; but, they really need a good cleaning. The ranger, Tim, is a very nice man to work with; but, the host, John, leaves a lot to be desired. Can't find him when he is needed, and when he is available, you have no warning if he is going to be friendly or an outright grouch!

Nice campground near a nice town that has a few good places to eat on a Friday or Saturday night. There is also a couple cool shops to browse. Worth the trip if you are looking for somewhere new to camp.

My son and I stayed to watch the Perseid meteor shower. The campground is very nice! Very clean and well taken care of. The staff is helpful and friendly. The restaurant was really good. The fish weren't biting that day though.

Not for the spoiled RV camper but if your willing it rough it a little this is a great getaway spot. Each site has 30 amp electric but water is centrally located, no hookup for trailer and sewage is dump station at exit. Sites vary widely in size so shop for your need. Very well shaded and lake is close for boating, electric motor only and fishing. No swimming allowed. Tons of kids riding bikes, camp fires at night and really family friendly. Added bonus only $20 per night, $10 for tent spot.

stayed over memorial day weekend. never camped on a holiday weekend, so it was completely crowded but still a lot of fun kids made a lot of friends with nice on site playground camp sites and real nice and level. make time to visit Plainview Winery which is on site. Must Have a Wine-o-rita!!!!!

We met some other couples here for lunch. Quaint cafe right on the lake with a great view. Everyone in our party had the bluegill except me ( non fish eater ). I had a burger. Everyone raved about the bluegill. Good menu with several choices. They have a winery next door and will bring you samples.

A nice lake for fishing. Electric motors only. Many hiking trails and a restaurant and winery. Nice shaded campsites, many with electric.

Went there for lunch. Will try dinner sometime. Food was good and a nice view of the lake. Service was decent and friendly. Winery was overpriced.

No state park is free to camp. There is always a nominal fee of some type. Most state parks allow you to stay only 2 weeks.
