Kibbitznest isn't in the city's touristy zone. If you don't have a car, it's not the easiest place to get to. It is a short walk from a 74 Fullerton bus stop, or an Uber can easily whisk you to this place. Honestly, it a non-descript brick building that I had passed by many times on my way to a place across the street. Inside: sensory overload, yet cozy and charming. You can get coffee and a scone, or a yummy craft beer. There are multiple rooms decorated with many vintage items that are just fun to observe, like boardgames, typewriters, books and so on. Super clean restrooms...always a bonus. Resolution for 2020 is to drop by more often.

Kibbitznest represents the newest way to disconnect from your devices and connect with people face to face. It is a hybrid bookstore/bar, cafe offering up craft cocktails beer and coffee, nibbles , and even ice cream! While all of that may interest you, -- browsing books, listening to vintage music, playing board games, writing while using their manual typewriters, or Yes -- just talking with others while you are there, warrants a visit. They proudly announce that Kibbitznest is " wifi free," and encourage conversation, or solitude -- your choice. The back room hosts events that range from storytelling to cultural exchanges and everything in between, many free. Seating is comfortable and the vibe is quiet, but always with some background music that still allows for conversation. You will feel welcome and appreciated, under the watchful and caring hands of the owners, Annie and Louis, who have assembled an equally caring staff. If you visit, you will return.

Loveed the place. It has a good coffee and tea bar with loads of board games and books. It's a fun place to go to and also the fact that it promotes no technology usage makes you spend quality time with people. Really loved the concept. Had a great time!

We went here after dinner one night. It was a lot of fun! Some of us had drinks, which were great, some had ice cream(delicious), some hot drinks. We didn’t get anything to eat, but there were people enjoying food. It’s a fun bookstore, bar, game place, restaurant. There are several rooms, tables, and shelves of books to read and buy. There are lots of games to play. We had such fun, talking, playing games, drinking. It’s a great place!

シカゴのカフェでここほど素晴らしい所はないだろう。
携帯、パソコンが禁止なのである。
どこもかしこも、携帯、パソコンをいじる人で溢れている。
ここでは、談笑、一人の時間、読書を楽しむのだ。
店内は広く、多くの本に囲まれている。置いてあるレイモンドチャンドラーの本を読んでみようか。古いタイプライターで手紙を書くのも良いだろう。前の部屋、中部屋、後ろ部屋があり、どこも違う感じで楽しい。中部屋には子供の本も置いてある。
オーダーしたお茶は、ありがちなティーバックではなく、ちゃんと茶葉から淹れてある。お酒もあるし、アイスクリームもある。食べ物はつまみものだけだが、どれも美味しく、量も多い。お店の主人は儲けよりも、この仕事を楽しんでいるようだ。
また、犯罪被害者のリサーチ等のディスカッションセッションも行うなど、意識が高い。
店内にはゆったり時間が流れる。
こういうお店はシカゴにない。

We live nearby and had been eyeing the place while under construction. We loved the idea that it is supposed to be a "technology-free" space. Interior is adorable and inviting and well planned. We decided to finally try it out for a birthday celebration on a Saturday night. We came in with about 6 people and found a nice, communal table in the back room. When I went up to the bar to order drinks, one of the waitstaff suggested we take a communal table that had just opened up in the front room. We alerted the rest of the party and we shuttled coats and purses to the front table. Finally all transferred, not 5 minutes had gone by when another party was arriving with a cake, etc. and we were informed that they had reserved the table we were seated at and we were asked to move again. Seriously?!? Okay. We are chill and didn't make a big deal other that to exclaim that it is cool that reservations could be made. The table in the back was now occupied but we ended up in the middle room and it was fabulous. Other friends joined us and we were there for a couple of hours playing games. We may have stayed longer but they ran out of many items on their already-limited menu (working out the kinks?) and we were starving. They really only offer snacks (cheese plate, chips and salsa, croissant. . . they ran out of everything but the cheese plate). One main server seemed to be pulling the bulk of the job and she was amazing. Owners and a friend of the owner pitched in, but not really on top of things. Some people unclear on the concept hanging out and talking loudly on a cell phone. Seriously, it is really never cool to have a loud, private, conversation on a cell phone in public. LOVE the concept of this place and I am certain these kinks will be worked out eventually.

Just wanted to thank you so much for your review. You are right, that night, we were slammed and not prepared! I think that was in February. My friend Loretta did have to help, thank God she was there! Your criticism is constructive, smart and spot on, I also appreciate your honesty, your account of the night is true, not exaggerated. Since we opened 6 months ago, it has been a challenging but very rewarding experience, I hope you come back, we will be adding some new things to the food menu soon, but still small plates. I don't want to cook anything! Also, please check out the nonprofit website for our discussion series with the University of Chicago, the next one is April 20th on Shakespeare. Appearing April 20th is Dave Marash, the legendary journalist from ABCNews Nightline!

This place is one in a million. Bookcases line the walls, comfortable chairs and tables, fine wine, coffee, tea. Greatest place to have a conversation, read, relax, enjoy life. Totally recommend to locals and travelers.

Wow! What a great concept! Books & Brews! Cheese plates and classic Chicago hot dogs! No wifi! No screens! Just face to face communication! Foos ball and board games! Great beer and wine! Paper Sundays - great idea- read a real newspaper!

If you want to visit with friends and not their electronic devices Kibbutz Nest is the place to go. It is a cross between a pub (they serve beer), a tea room and a bookstore for new andd old books with a twist. They serve ice cream, cheeses -- light nibbles, so you could concentrate on being with your friends and not the food. There are table games to play, old typewriters to stimulate your inner Hemingway and just being in a comfy place away from the Internet. A very cool concept!
