I live in Chicago and buy from the all the time. When the pandemic was at its worse, I bought online.
Their products are great, they are lovely folks and their stores smell fantastic. I used to frequent their store in downtown Chicago, which sadly closed during the pandemic.
But if you get a chance to go to the northside store, go. I've never been to that one, but I'm sure it's great like their other store.
They're just so wonderful.

This store is like walking into a European apothecary and having all your senses delighted. The wide range of beautiful products is fun to explore. The quality of everything we bought was outstanding and even though we don’t live in Chicago, we now continue to order some of the products through their website smallflower.com because these are unique, hard to find products that i can’t find in California.

I have been been shopping there for nearly 45 years since I was a child. Some items are a little pricey, but others are decently priced. I am fond of light, unique scents. One scent I am particularly fond of is a cola scented perfume. Who would have thought of scenting a fragrance after soda pop? Other attributes include a sweet, spicy scent. I highly recommend it. I also favor the essential clove oil for toothache pain. It works wonders! I purchased it a few years back for $6. The price might have slightly risen.

I found Merz online while looking for German made Nivea shampoo few years ago and it became my main source of hair/skin care products that I couldn’t find in regular pharmacies. Last year I finally visited Chicago and stopped by one of Merz stores. It was one of the best shopping experiences I’ve ever had! :) I picked my favorite European products (a lot of stuff!) and store staff mailed them all to my house in New York.

This place has so much stuff that I could spend hours browsing. Soaps, lotions, essential oils, and more. I can’t wait to go back.

I knew on my first visit it would not be my last! I returned 2 other times (and yes made substantial purchases) during the same week and brought friends with me. Everyone left with happy faces having found unique selections of feel good favorites - lotions, shaving gear, skincare, travel items, everything apothecary from around the world. Staff is wonderful. I thought each person was the owner that is how much pride in the store and knowledge of the products they showed. Thankfully they have a website and ship but please be sure to visit if you are anywhere nearby the shop.

This shop is one my favorite destinations. It has a wonderful family owned time honored tradition feel with welcoming knowledgeable employees. It reminds me of Europe, but has a unique friendliness that the shop of this type across continents would not have. It has everything from fair trade shea 4.00 soap, 40 different natural deoderants, handmade combs, to dutch licorice I cannot find anywhere else on this oceanside. Most of all I really enjoy the people who work there, they are all so lovely. My husband and I love this place, its a breath of fresh air-so much in contrast to the commerciality so prevelant. I shop on line too, Smallflower.com is their online site since I can't find anywhere else what they have there. But....I do love the store. You will be loyal too!

Visited Merz Downtown in the Palmer House Hotel. It's a small shop but a huge selection of European and niche/boutique brands, as well as some larger and better-known brands. Pleasantly surprised by the fragrance selections, although of course they didn't stock the one Penhaligon's I would have purchased. Alas.

We stopped in here to gather some gifts to take home for friends. We were blown away by the selection and the high quality options available here. This is such a cute historic shop and we were able to pick up some great gifts for others and ourselves! Everything from daily toiletries to luxury cosmetics and shaving products to medications and homeopathic remedies to candles and home items. I am a pharmacist by profession and really enjoyed the historic look and feel of the store, as well as the fact that a licensed pharmacist was on staff dispensing quality advice regarding cold remedies to another visitor.

I've been coming to Merz ever since I was a young adult. I'm of German descent and I'll often visit and call my German momma to ask what she needs, and there is always something on her list. The space is cramped and that just lends to it's charm. The staff is helpful without being overbearing or pushy which is a lovely combination. They have a wonderful selection of European toiletries and homeopathic products for all of your healthcare needs. The staff is very knowledgeable about their products and will recommend a good solution to whatever ails you. The addition of Q Brothers next door is awesome. I get all of my needs met and have been introduced to some new brands and products that have become staples for me, along with my old standby European products that I've been using for years. This is a unique experience that you must have. This is unlike any other store in Chicago. It's a must visit location.
