We went for the first time to the TimeLine theater and enjoyed our experience. The theater was very small and intimate without a bad seat in the house. Staff was welcoming and appreciative that we came. The theater features plays inspired by history. We will be back.

It was all I could do to keep from leaping to my feet to applaud various segments during each act. This theater company is superb. Close in seating adds to the engagement with the actors. The scene between the Queen and PM Thatcher was the most memorable I've witnessed on any stage on three continents...I wanted to yell hoorah but kept my tongue. Just go and enjoy!

This was our first TimeLine theater experience and we were delighted. This is a small theater located in the middle of a Chicago neighborhood. Many in the audience lived in the area and were longtime subscribers. The theater is open seating so we got there early and easily found seats a few rows up from the stage. With the small size of the theater there isn't a bad seat in the house. Paradise Blue was written by Dominique Morisseau with original music by Orbert Davis. The time is the 1950's, the place is Detroit, the setting is a jazz club, and the characters are the men and women of Paradise Valley/Black Bottom. Each character was well developed and held their own in the plot line. I was fully engaged in the story from the moment the first note of the trumpet sounded until the final gun shot.

A group of eight us enjoyed the Timeline Theatre production of "A Disappearing Number" on March 20,2017.
The actors were superb and the use of space for the play was very creative. Good usage of audio, visual and 3D props to get a rather conceptual story told in a efficient manner.
I'm looking forward to future visits.

We saw the US premiere of The Last Wife and highly recommend it, as well as most productions at TimeLine. I particularly like going on a Sunday when there is a discussion afterwards and one can hear from the director, the actors, or the author. Fascinating, always historical, and absolutely mind opening.

Our group of six bought tickets at Hot Tix. We took a taxi, had some bad traffic and arrived about 7 minutes late. They were unable to seat us, so we sat in the lobby and watched a TV using headphones. The play and performance were excellent. Everyone was nice to us, just be sure you are not late.

My husband and I have started to keep our eyes out for any new production at Timeline Theatre. We love that it is contemporary, often politically-inspired, and very intimate in its productions and space. Most recently we enjoyed the marvelous Mike Nussbaum and equally wonderfully colleagues in Arthur Miller's "The Price." We often go for a nice Asian-fusion dinner at Red Pig Kitchen right around the corner beforehand. Only slight challenge is finding parking in the neighborhood on a weekend night (many of the street spaces are permit only). So far we have lucked out with finding reasonable street parking nearby on Broadway.

I love TimeLine. They do 4 plays a year in a small theatre in Lincoln Park/Boystown that always open one's mind and provide learning on some subject. It really is the best theatre in Chicago!

Amazing play…you can't stop listening for a moment, and you don't want to. The interactive displays about the issues in the lobby help fill in the blanks. Amazing theater!

Unbelievable theater. I came here to see A Raisin in the Sun. It was my first show at Timeline; I knew this was a classic theater piece, was set in Chicago, at a theater is wanted to visit for years (since their premiered of The History Boys shortly after I moved to Chicago), and was directed by Ron OJ Parson, one of my favorite directors in Chicago (and one of the most down to earth guys around). The play was truly wonderful; all the actors were top notch, but Toni Martin and Greta Oglesby were simply breathtaking storytellers. I know that Toni is new to the area, so I cannot wait to see more from her; I can't believe I haven't had the opportunity to see Ms. Ogilvie before. Clearly, this is my loss and I need to keep an eye out for the work these two are doing.

Timeline seems particularly committed to their mission in a way I haven't seen at a lot of theaters. They value sharing stories that make a mark on history and cause people to really want to engage in a dialogue. I've learned that it is typical for patrons to be able to wander the set, opening drawers, touching set pieces and check things out by getting right up close (not for Raisin, though; I think because one of the characters cooks an complete breakfast in the first scene). They are well known for their lobby displays, which gives greater context and background to the work. The theater is intimate; I felt like I was in their living room, and was astounded that the actors didn't trip on anyone's feet, as the first row was so close. Even walking into the theater was part of the set for this show; it was designed so it seems as though you're walking down the hallway of the apartment building and entering the family apartment. Ingenious.

If this show in particular isn't nominated for multiple Jeff awards (best actress x2 and set design in particular), I'll be astounded. This particular show is long - almost 3 hours - but absolutely worth it and it is so well written, directed and acted it doesn't feel that long at all.

The theater has no parking and is located in Lake View East, so finding a spot can be tricky. I happened to get there early - about an hour or so - and found a metered space just around the corner. The "plan your visit" guide on the website offers other ideas for parking, as well as a wealth of public transportation options. Whatever you have to do, just get here - you won't regret it.
