Can’t never find that garden of phoenix nor the cherry blossoms. Theres no clear signs to find it. Please make clear signs.

This was a pleasant way to spend an hour. The parking lot is on Hayes, just east of Cornell drive. There aren’t many signs to the garden until after you park and start walking toward it. Parking was like $2 per hour. Cross the bridge to Wooded Island, for a nice nature walk and the real jewel is the Garden of the Phoenix. Kids had fun walking around.

The Japanese garden is absolutely beautiful. It is nicely manicured and clean. The place is serene, scenic and has a calm atmosphere. The lady told us she was feeding the koi so we were able to watch the koi gather for their food. It is called the Garden of the Phoenix and is it definitely a hidden gem in the park.

Nice and quite place to walk and sit down and relax. Its well maintained and clean. You can't bring dog into the Japanese garden.
Park need more direction signs and maps when there is cross way, it's confusing.
Park also need more lights.

After touring the Museum of Science and Industry nearby, this picturesque walk was a delightful finish to the afternoon.
First, a bit of history: All of Jackson Park was created to be the site of Chicago's famous Columbian Exhibition of 1893. The building that houses the Museum of Science & Industry was originally the only fireproof building of the Fair, since it was then the Palace of Fine Arts (housing the most famous paintings and sculptures from around the world...).
Wooded Island was the site of the Japanese Exhibit...of which the Gardens & a lone, simple pavilion still exist to this day! Note: in recent years, Yoko Ono has contributed a beautiful sculpture near the entry to the garden...titled the Phoenix (also the name of the Gardens...). Note: while there are 2 bridges onto this island, the north bridge (by the Museum of Science & Industry...) is under repair, so you'll have to drive to the bridge at the south end of the island...the adjacent parking lot is off of Hayes Drive.
Enjoy!

We spent a lovely afternoon strolling around and relaxing with family in this peaceful Japanese Garden. I think this is what the planners had in mind when they planted and lovingly maintained this beautiful place. Others here have given you the history. It is well laid out. Everywhere you look is a perfectly planted flower and plant bed. Whoever takes care of this garden really knows what they're doing. The selection of plants is perfect.
It is easy to get to, just off of 41 South. We parked on the street at 60th & Midway Plaisance, across from the University of Chicago. It was cool in the shade with a nice lake breeze.
If you have the time, you might also want to visit the Museum of Science and Industry, the only other remaining edifice from the great Columbian Exposition of 1893. It an easy stroll to get there.
Someone else mentioned in their review that the paths are narrow. We were able to navigate a stroller with no problem. It might not be wide enough for some wheelchairs.

日本庭園はいくらでもあるけれど、冬が厳しいシカゴ後に日本庭園があるのはとても努力がいることだと感心しました。

This is a pleasant Japanese strolling garden in Jackson Park. It was originally built on this site as the “Garden of the Phoenix” with the Japanese pavilion for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, and along with the Palace of Fine Arts Building (now the home of the Museum of Science and Industry), this is one of the only remaining elements of the World’s Fair left in Chicago. The garden has been restored and was being actively maintained when I visited (which was actually kind of inconvenient, since the paths are very narrow). I thought this was easily the most beautiful part of Jackson Park. Art lovers will want to take a look at Yoko Ono’s 2016 sculpture “Sky Landing,” which is adjacent to the garden.

The paths at the Japanese Garden are not smooth as the terrain is rocky and rugged in places. Plus, there is a VERY STEEP picturesque BRIDGE that I had a hard time climbing and I'm healthy. No. This is not wheelchair accessible. However, the path leading to the Garden is smooth and, if you continue on the path, you'll see some beautiful naturescapes.
