There were a few used books but the huge majority of the books were new, contemporary titles at new book prices. Great selection here if you are looking for books by authors published recently. The fiction section downstairs is huge; easy to spend some time browsing here if you want to find something particular to your taste. Not the place for used bookstore browsers.

My daughter loves books so I found this bookshop to go to while visiting Chicago. We browsed for awhile and she was happy to find a couple of books to purchase.

Finding a book store that's not a large national chain is always a pleasure; and After-words did not disappoint! While the upstairs had some unique items and titles, the meat and potatoes is definitely downstairs; there is definitely a huge selection to choose from! The staff here was friendly during our visit, and we unexpectedly spent quite a bit of time here browsing (and eventually purchasing)!

Hard to find and was very underwhelming. I love old book stores but this just felt like an old library. The lady at the front desk was not friendly at all.

Found some great cloth-bound Shakespeare's for only $10 each, not the place if you're looking for a full set but amazing to browse and pick up some nice quality used books.
Prices are very fair, condition of books is great, atmosphere is calm and friendly, staff Is quite knowledgeable.
If you're looking for a place to spend some quiet time between sightseeing or get a break from the weather, this is THE place.

Located down steps and steps from Michigan Avenue shopping, we enjoyed an undisturbed hour of browsing and reading. Great selection upstairs/downstairs, and what looks like a fun event space for rent.

Fantastic YA selection! Very well-organized and great location. I visit book stores and libraries in almost every city I visit and this one is worth your time.

The store carries both new and used books (adult used books are downstairs). The new books are an interesting selection--they do carry the obvious bestsellers, but whoever places the orders has an eye for indie books and publishers. Used book selection depends a great deal on what's available to the store purchaser, as with any bookstore, but I never fail to find something.
They're tucked away in the 'underpass' section of Illinois Street, but they're close to many of the hotels and store of River North, and make a lovely antidote to the glitter of Michigan Avenue.

This place has a solid selection of fiction/literature titles. We just stumbled upon it while wandering lost around the city.
Staff was pleasant to talk with and provided all kinds of useful info.
Setting is pretty cool, too.

This book store which is over two levels has a combination of new and used books. Quiet little sitting areas throughout the store give you somewhere to start reading that book. Great place to loose a few hours on a rainy day.
