Nice shelters to rest in. One of the best views I have seen yet of the Mississippi River! Not really much to do with the family here besides camp, picnic, and view the river.

There is a lot going on at this site! It has ties to the first capital of IL, the Lewis and Clark expedition, military history, and the changing of the Mississippi River flow. The fort is mainly some earthwork remains. There is signage for that, the cemetery, overlook, and the Menard house. Parking available, and campground/picnic areas.

Fort Kaskaskia is both historic and scenic. The fort is a reconstructed earthwork. There is a well done sign explaining it and the town of Kaskaskia across the river. When we were there archaeology students from SIU were there on a dig. They said they found French coat buttons. They were also digging near the American fort location near the cemetery. All in all a nice place
to visit when you are in the area.

The entire complex is worth a day trip. The overlook, the fort mounds, the cemetery, and the connected Menard house sheds light on early Illinois European colonization history.

Had a quiet, peaceful stay. The campground hosts were welcoming and did a great job encouraging orderly camping and safety. The view is fantastic!

We made a quick stop here on our way to Chester. Normally we love historic sites but the area did not seem very well maintained while we were there, especially the playground area.
We still enjoyed our visit due to the significance of this area. There was informative signage that tells some of the history but there really isn't a lot here to see other than the overlook, cemetery, and a vague outline of where the fort once was. There was also a small campground as well.
Still worth a visit if you are passing through the area but as others have said, I wish they would do more here.

We knew the fort was no more than earthworks, so were not disappointed. We've seen others in this condition; it doesn't diminish the interest of an historic site. The power of the river is a lesson well-learned here. We enjoyed walking and driving the area, looking for birds (it's a good site--would like to be here in migration), and the view of the Mississippi valley is deserving of the word "spectacular."

Fort Kaskaskia State Park could and should be so much more. They could have researched the area better and at least put up some sort of log fence to show the actual size and shape of the fort. The fort is long gone. All that are left are a few grass and tre covered humps where the walls might have been. There's no sign or trace of any sort of military buildings. So can you call the place a fort when none exists? Not in my book.
There's a scenic overlook that does provide some nice views of the Mississippi River and it is fascinating to explore the Garrison Hill cemetery that contains the graves of some early French and American settlers. It's well maintained, kind of pretty and it might be a good place to camp (not my cup of tea). Considering how important this site is to local history, you'd think they'd bother to do more with it.

This is peaceful, beautiful and important to local history. It would be an ideal spot for a family picnic.

We meandered down to watch the solar eclipse here and investigated the grounds here. It was quite interesting to see all of the old gravestones from the old pioneers that settled the area. The view of the Mississippi River was breathtaking especially during the eclipse. A great pit stop for a visit or it also looked like an enjoyable campground as well.
